Usually what is needed to fix this error is downloading and installing the Microsoft Visual Studio C++ redistributables for 2005 and 2008

Since my 1st reply didn't go through, I want to thank you for the MS redistributables links. They are not readily available from the MS website anymore. Even though that didn't work for me, a member of the Rof Support Team promptly fixed it apparently. I would like to know how, so that I can maybe fix it myself if it happens again, and share the info with the community. Many thanks to you, Panthercules, the RoF Support Team, and everyone else willing to help others! Salute!! :icon_e_salute:  :icon_e_salute:  :icon_e_salute:

I did not try your links however as the previous poster indicated they were obsolete. Was that bad info?

Update... Tried again. So far from the 1st link, I ran the x86 program. That was not enough. The I ran the 2nd link pgm. That did the trick for me. Thank you for the help! S!

Yeah - you used to only need the one version, but with one of the recent updates they introduced the need to have both versions for some reason - it has tripped up quite a few people over the last couple of years.

It was a total snafu. Much of the blame is on me. Whole mess started with an older external drive. It started working intermittently, which started causing my system to boot very slowly. This of course drove me nuts..

I tried to install Rise of Flight on my Windows 10 system and when I try to run the program I received the same side by side error message.

I located the folder for the game and run the updater along with the two additions listed on this website and I still get the same message.

I checked out the two C++ links listed and the second link is no longer working, the first link does list the C++ download, after doing a little

more searching around I found out that C++ 14 version is used in Windows 10.

Since Windows 10 has a newer version of C++ what could be the reason that ROF won't load on my PC???

I use to play Red Baron 3D and another version of WW1 that was run off of the Flight Simulator game that Microsoft made and I was able to

change the paint scheme of the Nieuport 17.

Does ROF require the Microsoft Flight Simulator game to be installed before it will work?

Try that and also try the updater again and then run the game.

Nope.  Wrong game.

Well I was able to use the first link and downloaded the 2005 C++, my system would install the 1A64 because it won't work with my processor?

I did get the other two packages installed.

The second link no longer works, so I ran a search for the 2008 C++ version and downloaded and installed two packages, which looked like the

two 2005 versions. Is the 2008 versions just newer versions of the 2005 packages?

If this doesn't work, should I just buy the other version or will I have the same problems?

Well I have the C++ apps installed and I can load the game, however I only have a mouse hooked up and the curser moves in a jerking fashion?

I am guessing that I will need a joystick?

My system is an E machine with a Pentium Dual core 2.70 GHz 4 GB DDR2 ram and only 3.75GB is useable with nvidia graphics and running windows 10.

So if I get a joystick and upgrade the DDR2 to 8 GB's will that get this game to run or am I at a loss on these games?

I also tried to start the game just to see how it would work, and there wasn't a plane available to me???

Anyone have a suggestion?

Well I have done some research on my Emachine and unfortunately the mother board is maxed out at 4Gb's, I upgraded the OS to Windows 10 which uses more ram. The computer originally came out with Windows 7.

If I uninstall windows 10 and recovery the windows 7 version, will I be able to run Rise of Flight???

I could also change the system to Windows XP SP3, of course that would be the 32bit system, would this game run on the 32 bit XP system?

If the game will run on 7 or XP, which setup would be better????

Thank you for your time and help,

Darrell

My system is an E machine ET1831-07 with a Pentium Dual core 2.70 GHz 4 GB DDR2 ram Nvidia Graphics chip set.

Before I upgraded to windows 10 there was a icon for Nvida in the low right corner, it disappeared  after upgrading to 10.

I recommend looking over the first two posts in this thread, regarding min. specs. for RoFing - there is some good info. there on "dual core" processors, etc. (official min. specs. for RoF used to be the "Intel Core 2 Duo," while the Pentium Dual Core you are mentioning was positioned somewhere between the Celeron and Intel Core Duo/Core2 Duo - that at least is the official info.). As far as I can tell from that post, min. specs. are the Intel E4600 and above (the 4600 is Intel Core 2 Duo), while some websites with benchmark comparisons between your processor, which is a Pentium E5400, and the entry-level (E4600) Core 2 Duo - suggest that the Pentium Dual Core (E5400) is the better performer. The E5400 can also be overclocked more easily.

So, theoretically, your best bet for minimal-spec. RoFing might be downgrading to Win7, since it uses about 20% less RAM than Win10 - and perhaps looking into ways of (slightly) overclocking your processor, if possible. I would guesstimate that this would allow you to run RoF at low or medium settings - but not at high/max. settings. Win XP I wouldn't bother with. At any rate, read the suggested links and think about your options since there are no guarantees that you will get great results with RoF on such a setup - but you may be able to run it with the tips given above.

In the worst-case scenario (or should I say best-case scenario :D), you might want to run (modded) First Eagles 2 on your rig., since it is less demanding of hardware - but do avoid recent iterations of WOFF (Wings Over Flanders Fields) - unless you can overclock that Pentium Dual Core into the 3.5+ GHz range, since WOFF requires fairly high GHz and is largely single-core (First Eagles 2 on the other hand is dual-core capable and less resource-intensive, and works happily on mid- and lower-range rigs.).

Good luck and happy RoFing (or FE2-ing should you go that route),

Von S :icon_cool:
