Greetings all!  It's time to grab your life preservers for this Sunday will see us over the English Channel in the area of Neiuport for the classic Channel Bombers map.  This is the  original classic channel map by Syndicate Squadron map makers, set in late 1917.

The map has 6 objectives for each side to complete.  First to complete all six will win the round.  The big prize on this map is the "enemy convoy" objective.  It is comprised of an entire convoy of 6-8 naval vessels, 2 of which are battle cruisers which are heavily armed with AAA.  The first bomber flights in should concentrate on taking down the cruisers' air defences.

***When in doubt about whether mine sweepers or submarines are enemy or friendly, you can set your gunner to fire at ground targets and make a quick close pass by the vessel to see if your gunners fire***

Date: October, 1917

Mission Start: 1800GMT

Objectives:  Destroy all targets, marked on the map by a RED flag. The side that destroys all targets first will win.  Move over the target with the cursor to see a description of the target. Please note that the flag will disappear when the target(s) has been destroyed.

Weather:  We will attempt to match real world conditions in the area the day of the event.

Good luck gentlemen S!

Hello!

Are you using GMT/UTC/Zulu time and date?

This:

The "VM Sunday" bit is a bit cryptic. : - )

I generally restart the map at or around 1800 GMT/UTC/ZULU  but there's nothing official with the VM Sundays, people drop in/out throughout the afternoon / evening. No formalities :)

Hey that's great. Thanks Cuban. It'll be good to get on in the evening (my time) instead of the wee hours!

I hope there's other guys on when I am. It certainly will be a sight to see the big bombers over the channel.  :)  And ships and subs!  :icon_e_biggrin:

Cuban, thanks for the event, I had a great evening with my friends! Unfortunately, I read the plot of the event only now, after the mission :-) However, our bombers did not come, apparently they breathed too much and breathed too much castor oil vapor yesterday on FiF, and for this reason they could not fly on the channel today :-)))

I got on way too early, 3-4 hours before the kick off. And then couldn't last until 4am (Brisbane time). But great checking out the map. It's so good seeing the channel again! Something different like.

So I hop in the DH4 see. Twin vickers job. 4 x 112 pounders. And head north out into the channel. Find the shipwreck. Looking for U-boats. Looking, looking, looking. THEN! There's one. Must be a hun. Look at the map. YEAH BABY! I line him up from astern and begin a perfectly executed shallow dive and release the bombs right on target BAM BAM BAM BAM. Direct hit! Too easy. I'm a hero.

MESSAGE: YOU HAVE DESTROYED AN ALLIED SUBMARINE!

I immediately disconnect. The shame. Hope no-one saw it.

So I get it now. If they don't fire at you or attempt to submerge or the guy in the backseat wakes up, leave them alone.  :icon_lol:

Fun though, even if I was playing with myself. Damn time zone.
