delete your mission file, of any maps you put into the rotation.  The file just above the mission.bin in your dogfight folder.

The mission file is not needed for the server. ( also not recommended ) the game uses the mission.bin file.

Be wary of the advice given above.  The simultaneous presence of the .mission file and the .msnbin file, should not cause such errors.

Are you running the server on the same machine on which you play?  File transfer error usually means a missing file on a server.  The admin will have that file on his own machine so won't get the error.

That's what I thought.  Make sure you have copied-over all the files on which the mission depends. You must have missed one or it's in the wrong place.

This is all very interesting but can we get all the VERY USEFUL INFO in one place?

Not scattered across the hecking forum?

We are all extremely happy to have Mr Arty provide us with very useful information AND

host servers and events etc etc. We are not worthy etc.

There should be no need to ask questions about how to put up a server in this day and age!

( a proper manual with all the advice you need is what we need! )

A digest of useful info? Pocket book? A printout? Scribble note? Graffiti?

I found my spare laptop too... it can run a server..... in NZ !!!!

S!

Are you using any special files in your mission such as "Translator Media"?

Are you using any Mods?

And Yes, if your server is a separate machine you do NOT want the  mission file in the dogfight folder on the server. You just need all the language files, list file and the MSNBIN file. Seven files.

No I don't believe I'm using any special files

No I'm not using any mods

Where do I put the mission file then?

The .mission file is a text file and the .msnbin file is the compiled (binary) version of the ,mission file.

If you're running the server on a separate machine, that machine normally should have all the files except the .mission file.  If the .mission file is present on the server machine, it will be used in preference to the .msnbin file, which will just increase the time it takes clients to parse the mission.  Since I didn't know what setup you had, I didn't want you to risk deleting both files.

Are you sure that your server machine has had the latest update installed?  To be certain, I suggest you run rof_updater.exe on that machine.  Run it directly, not from the config screen.

It's located in: Rise of Flight/bin_game/release

mods on

I've never done it, but in the startup.cfg file within the [system] section, there is a parameter called 'modes' (that's how the devs spell mods), which I suspect needs to be set to 1.

So is it these files that need to be in the Multiplayer/dogfight folder?

Attached Files

Apart from the .Mission file, as has already been made clear, but its presence should not cause an error.

If you're sure the map has no other dependencies like .mp3 sound files, perhaps it may be a port-forwarding issue.  The downloader port could be set for the wrong protocol or forwarded to the wrong address.  Could you post a screenshot of your router's port-forwarding screen?
