We are looking at starting  10, October, 2020 at 2:00 pm eastern North American time. Session lasts two hours. Server actually starts up at 1:45 so people can get in and get their plane configured. We usually do two weeks, then switch sides for another two weeks. Advance the plane set and repeat.

Although this is RoF, many in the community are participating in Jasta 5s' Black September Campaign. We do not want to divide the community, so we will wait till BS is over.

This will be on Flugpark yes?  Is eastern NA time like New York time or GMT/UTC? Sorry time zones always confuse my little brain. I'd like to join if the Aussie time suits my circumstances.

Sorry, this is ROF so it will be on JG1 server. Yes, Eastern NA time is New York. GMT - 4      ..... I think.   Usually not a good time for Aussie. Something like 2 AM?

Yeah I was afraid of that. I was hoping it was GMT/UTC which would've been 12am which is okayish for me. What (New York) times is the JG1 server usually up for? So I can check out the ping. West coast USA is better but you never know. Thanks for getting back to me Butzzell.

I have never partaken in a FiF event... about time I got my wings wet.

Count me in.

I worked out how to set the thing up in Time and date dot com... see here:

https://www.timeandd...01010T14&p1=179

Can you check this is right? ( left panel, modify event, change time date etc )

Thanks Kapln but now you got me really confused. I thought it was 2am not 4am Brisbane time? We'll have to muddle this through 'cause I'd like to participate in the fun and if you could join in, even better. Antipodeans are sadly lacking it seems. I suppose I could make an effort and get up in the wee hours but well ... I need my beauty sleep. Which is not working anyway so what the heck. Count me in fellas. I think.

um... if you change your "change your location" to Brisbane.... then yes, with the time supplied by Butzzell :

"We are looking at starting  10, October, 2020 at 2:00 pm eastern North American time."

Then the time at your end is :

Brisbane, Qld, Australia

4:00 a.m.AEST
Sunday, 11 October 2020

Cripes why are things so difficult! Yeah looks like 4am Palkn. That'll give me a good 2 hours of flying before daylight begins to play havoc with trackir. I have a sunny place. Must do something about curtains some time. Write that down.

The switch to RoF was rather a recent decision. We have not had time to update the Flanders web pages.

FiF Description and rules at JG1.org still say Flying Circus but are really the same for RoF.

This is just one day per week. Saturday at 2 pm eastern North American time. NY time as described in previous posts.   Server will have a password. We will probably be using Team Speak for communications. Discord may be an option.

The mission is in the Region of Nancy. This area was not well developed by the game creators. The airfields for the Central side are home made. You have to be a bit careful when landing at these fields. We are using the various float planes for Recon, Arty Spot and a few other missions.

Objectives for each side

Entente                                                        Central

Bridge   (Destroy gun on bridge)                 Bridge  (Destroy gun on bridge)

Factory                                                        Factory

Aerodrome (Destroy gun in oil drums)        Aerodrome (Destroy gun in oil drums)

Arty Spot                                                     Arty Spot

Recon HQ                                                   Recon HQ

Recon Front Line                                        Destroy ship moving on a river

General Capture                                         Spy pick up

Destroy Front line weak point                     Destroy Spy secondary target

Plane set is interesting. I may brush up on the Noop 28. Hanriot perhaps not. (Bender's not around is he? )

Do you have to book a plane and place and where? How many people may attend? I'm a virgin so first time. Apologies in advance if my ping is crap (likely) but if I don't go I'll never know.

Holy cow!

The plane set.... those numbers are what is available?

20 Dva's? Yikes.

We swap sides right? So we really get to see which side is better equipped. hmm...

And has the best tactics for the planes.... heck.

OK ok i'm not quitting yet.

Halberstadt DII vs SPAD 180 is a better challenge.... One gun each and both are asymmetrically balanced.

But I am just a MP duelling twerp...

What's your server called Butzzell? As you know I'm interested in participating but if my ping from Aus is 300+ it's not worth it for me or anyone else. And you may set a ping limit anyway? If I know what your server is called and what times it is up I can check it out before the event and make a decision.

Cheers.

Hey, didn't we just get a new cable to the west coast of the united states ?

I think they call it "the other cable"...

Or did I dream it...

What we need is a deadicated RoF cable. 300Terabits per second and it has not transit time.

So it's faster than the speed of light. In fact it knows what you want at the end of the cable

before you even knew yourself. I dubbed this the "Tricesta buss " ...it's a very long story.

It's based on the Tricesta effect. it's a sort of neurological psychic information technology...

Never mind.

It's just mindbogglingly fast. Light is reasonably slow compared.  We need it.

The JG1 server is in Virginia way over to the east and in my experience with FC servers in that area my ping is bad, like over 300 man! I don't know about a new cable to the west coast but servers there such as Flugpark are (kind of) okay with a ping of 200ish or under. Playable anyway.

So if I get a chance to check out the JG1 server I'm not hopeful but I gotta try just to be certain like. Maybe Buttzzy is a miracle man. Even better if there were more Camels in the plane set.  :icon_lol:

Anyway, we shall see.

S! All

If you have registered for FiF in the past, you are still registered and have access to either the Red or Blue team private area. If you have not previously participated, please visit The Flanders in Flames website and register. You will be assigned to a team. The info sub forums are still set to the descriptions used for Flying Circus. We may not get the time to change them. I will probably post mission descriptions here with simple pictures.

I am still doing basic testing of missions. I should be done in a few days. Starting 14 September, I can have the server up from 3 pm to midnight Brisbane time.

The two Camels are special mission planes. The Front line recon discovers a weak point in Central lines. The camels are used to activate and bomb the target. An homage to Winged Victory. After the target is destroyed the Camels are free to do anything they please.

Reg'd.

This red team / blue team thing... Which is which? I signed on for Entente.

Is there a mission briefing? How do we discus tactics? What is the chain of command for

each team? Is there one? Is dead dead? When we lose our two camels... is it ok to get cross?

My voice is quite annoying... will people make fun of it ?

I have so many questions. Where will they all be answered?

Is Raaaid playing? Mamochka? Rassil? Others in spirit....S!

By gum I will get my flight controls sooooooo organised for this.

S! Plank,

There is no dedicated Entente or Central.  We may start out as Blue team Entente and Red team Central. Play for two weeks then swap sides so that Blue team is Central and Red is Entente. Then we advance the plane set and do it all over again.

The map is the Nancy region. The odd map above is for session 1 and 3. The even map is for session 2 and 4.

You will notice that the icon targets are numbered 1-4. They are not all active. The server comes up 15 minutes before the session starts. During that time it displays which of the targets is active. Some targets like the HQ, Spy pick up, General capture, and moving ship are not labeled on the map. They must be searched for.

Hey I have an idea.

The in game maps ( the actual map not the mission ) are a bit crap.

With some fiddling around I could possibly make a better one for use.

( set up a second screen to display this new map )

It's been an idea of mine for ages....

Will have a go at it and post up a pic. If it's met with approval I will make it better.

The mission map is up for practice for a while yes?

"Starting 14 September, I can have the server up from 3 pm to midnight Brisbane time."

If this is so, I can use the mission to make a really excellent map with all the right stuff in the right places.

Um... is there any reason why this is bad idea? Is it cheating?

Hey I have an idea..

Hello ! In this case, it is better to keep your ideas to yourself)) You are a military pilot, you are given a task, you are part of the system. Maybe you don't like the map, the flight route and the mission itself - but those guys who actually flew in that war, they didn't choose all this, they followed the order. There is a special meaning and pleasure in the game if you accept these rules and follow them.

Sir! Yes Sir! ( secret map! Follow orders! )

I brush up on my basic Russian yes, no, table, chair, pencil...

I communicate not in английский. but this is a secret between us. да.

I am just thinking from a navigators perspective: Many interesting land marks are not

drawn on the in game map. Such as new AF's etc. Trees, small roads, lost houses etc.

Actually back in REAL LIFE WW1 the observers would have made their own annotated maps

from actual photographs they had on hand. Pilots were allowed to use all this stuff too

as they needed it and were back up to the observers they carried.

The observers were the real power behind the throne , the pilots were just there

to fly the plane in the right place.... sorry pilots!

In fact... a decent Observer simulation would be amazing.

The amount of stuff they had to know. Do this, then this, then come back and then make notes etc.

Amazing.

Right I have to knick off and take a class.

Ahoy!

From where or whom did you hear this old boy?

https://riseofflight...-2020/?p=712778

information gets buried in the replies, it is quite hard to keep up!

Look, I reckon you should come along for the ride. Yes it might get laggy BUT you could still gun or take

pictures for the reckon etc. All hands on deck etc. and it looks like there might be a few of us.

Even pottering about in a crappy spad might be of help. ( though we swap sides a few times....)

Damn the ping!

If the ping is really bad we will be asked to leave the sever as it will drag everyone down. This is the worst

case scenario. In which case we start our own war somewhere else. I have no idea how. I am sure it's not that hard.

Still hanging on to my sick bed with both hands. It is getting very very boring... I have read the entire internet twice!

The sun will come out soon and I will be back to my old annoying self! I hope!

Right. Time to read the news....

The top time row is the EVENT TIME .

The rows below are different local times ( UTC is included )

You can ADD A NEW LOCAL TIME !!!!

Click on the blue "add another city or time zone" , it will display the new time.

TO SAVE THE PAGE:

Save it as a BOOKMARK in your web browser. ( the data is stored in the URL )

When you click on the bookmark it will show you the page again.

If you CHANGE anything* on the page and want keep new changes:

BOOKMARK THE PAGE AGAIN !!!!

* ( it is possible that certain things like the time format may be set as a cookie and saved, this means that

your display of the time and date format may differ !  but the info is the same . )

If the event start time changes:

Open the web page.  ( Either the link above ^^^ or your bookmarked one )

Click on the DATE and edit, and click on the TIME and edit.

Some light reading;

The web page is quite clever but it requires you to understand how it works.

It is storing the times and dates in the URL. ( the address of the web page )

When you click on the link or bookmark it displays the information that is stored in the url.

If you change the information on the page it will NOT update the information

in the URL until you RESAVE the book mark OR copy the new URL to some place.

There is no information stored on the website!

No one else can change the information in the URL of the bookmark on your browser.

They can however,  give you a new URL with updated information.

The use of different time zones etc is exasperating, trying to understand how it all works

is vexing. If you can come to terms with the above method for editing and saving the webpage

on your web browser then you have a simple way to convert a given time and date to a local

time and date. It is a tool that can save you time! but you need to understand how it works.

Look, I reckon you should come along for the ride.

Damn the ping!

I'll consider it Pankl. Besides the ping, it depends a lot on current personal circumstances tbh. "Such is life" Ned Kelly said before they hanged him.

I most always fly Entente, but in the plane set they are outgunned and outnumbered by the hun scouts and with largely inferior kites. So that presents a challenge to protect our bombers. I quite like the Nieuport 28 though, nimble enough and reasonably fast.

I wouldn't mind doing some arty spotting or being a gunner at some time. I'll just feel my way in. But start off with scouts.

I'm grateful that Buttzy is going to put up his server for "Brisbane" times from 14th Sept. I'll check it out and see how things go.

Anyway, we'll see what happens. If I can't make it this time, there's always another time.

At the moment I'm really enjoying the career in 45 Squadron flying the Camel.  :icon_e_smile:  Wonderful stuff compared to FC. Yes yes I know FC is mainly designed for MP but even that is crap now with the crazy DM particularly if you fly Entente.

edit: I should mention the great job Pat Wilson does with his FC career but he's severely constrained  by FC's limitations.
