EDIT:

The game would crash when I tried to fly after crashing my plane in game.

It had something to do with saving snap views and curves etc.

I called it the "fly now" bug, as it happened when I respawned pressing the "fly now" button ( or pressing return ).

Windows would put up an error and shut RoF down. The error was "BEX".

Is your game crashing for some reason?

Try this:

Rant below left for light reading:

GAME IS STILL CRASHING.

You guys said it's MSVCXXX.DLL .

We worked this out YEARS AGO!!!

So how to fix this???

You guys decided to use MSC not us!

We did not make the game YOU DID !!!!

So we have a problem,

and you have an idea what it is,

but you do not say how to fix this.

You say fix MSVCxxx.DLL ...

What the черт is that supposed to mean?

I rewrite the code for .DLL   ???

Your game, your choice of software, problem is yours.

But no, it's mine and other players.

My friend in Saint Peterburg will come to your office and shout at you in Russian for us!

She is short and has afraid for you angry face !

I have elected to re re re re install game once more.

This time I will delete all msvc stuff before hand.

( pretty sure I have done this already but heck it's worth it to stop the "crashing" ....)

Wish me luck! : - )

See my opinion on W10, it's similar to FC.

It wasn’t a friendly suggestion.  It was sarcastic snark intended to trigger you to prove that you don’t actually care about fixing the problem.  You just want to complain.

I though so.

Tell me though, if a person 1) makes room on their SSD drives to accommodate DLing  the game again, 2) DL's the game again.

3) backups .actions file and .respose file. 4) uninstalls all MSVC versions. 5) expands RoF 6) installs RoF  7) installs MSVC 8) Updates RoF

9) Launches RoF 10) Imports .actions file etc 11) gets back in to MP to test 12) experiences the game crashing... is this not a proof that

the person in question is actually trying to solve the problem?

BECAUSE THAT IS WHAT I DID LAST NIGHT.

You arrogant pile of larks vomit! ( wow this is much more comfortable ! )

Also known as flame-baiting, and quite unnecessary :P .

So, the RoF itself has not been updated since 2015 skinpack in 2018, it's unlikely to be the offender. The problem isn't common and seems to happen on your machine (I hate "it's your computers fault" guys but facts are facts). My guess is, either your MSVC+++ is screwed up (but you did reinstall it) or something you've installed since then (it's been long time) is interfering with MSVC+++.

BSR is right in that reinstalling the OS will likely help... bit of overkill, though.

Same here. I'll be running Windows 7 machine until it dies (hopefully not for years to come) then replace rig with new W10 one.

Had several W10 PCs at work and it's ok for everyday use, but I've heard horror stories on running it with MSFFB2 sticks. So, not yet.

MSFFB2 was my concern also, particularly at the time I got my rig as there were driver issues. I actually paid a little extra to have Win 7 installed as Win 10 was the default option.

For Win10; make sure your MSFFB2 is plugged into either a USB 2 port or a powered USB hub.

STATUS_INVALID_CRUNTIME_PARAMETER

An invalid parameter was passed to a C runtime function.

https://social.msdn....alstudiogeneral

Excerpt from above link:

"So your code is calling a CRT function with a bad parameter,

and instead of allowing something bad to happen,

like writing to a block of memory too small for the data that you are trying to copy into it,

the CRT is taking down the entire application.

So unfortunately this is a bug in your code that is showing up by the CRT reporting the error.

You would have to debug the code to figure out where it is occurring and fix it."

something is plainly wrong. Reinstalling the game, OS etc is just reinstalling the problem.

Why this happens when you crash in the game is a particularly ironic.

It has to be a bug in the code. How, why what etc.... no idea.

Bored now.

Three hours later...

Windows is working, RoF installed and sort of working...

I have had really mixed results.

side by side error for the settings.exe

RoF.exe will run then won't run.

Settings.exe ran then started to crash.

Then a "direct 3d error" ..

Heck, never had so many things work then fail then work then fail....

Now trying "recovery" from the updater and still nothing. ???

Sooooo updated OK but now fails to start.

I managed to log into the game once, now I cannot even start it. What ?

This is most annoying.

This is a totally clean install, all new, all downloaded software. ( barring the network driver and chipset )

good grief this is so dumb. No wonder people just use steam....

More news as it comes to hand!

News!

What a mission! Seven hours.
( with meal breaks and some pacing ...)

Short story: I have flown and crashed fine times and respawned with no hitches.

Long story:

Reinstalled everything.

Managed to get RoF to launch but problematic. ( no idea why )

Situation was unstable. Errors etc.

Struggled with the latest drivers for my graphics card, HD 7850.

Had to safe mode boot to bypass restart hang. ( gulp! )

Finally managed to rid my system of the latest graphics drivers. Phew!

Windows refused to install the new drivers by themselves. ( ? )

My cool was lost. Then... regained.

I sledged on deep into the cold night. There was no turning back.

Looked around and found an older driver, um... 13.251.0.0 . from 2013.

Installed it and bingo!

No stupid Adrenaline crud or CCC or other bollocks. : - )

Yey!

So here we are.

Will it crash? No one can tell. But I have my flippers crossed!

and I am probably never going to update the graphics driver again.

Was it the problem the whole time ??? Who can say ?

So I am back to the seven year old driver and if RoF does not crash then it stays.

I will cautiously optimistic be. Quit.

12 hours of building everything back up from a blank SSD drive and...

It crashed again. Same "fly now" bug.

I crashed and burned in a DR1 fighting Mark73.

Tried to respawn and viola! crash to desktop.

This bloody sucks.

Trupobaw, I was a big fan of W7 too but switched to W10 a year ago when I took up flight simming again. Sure it's a bit quirky but no problem with the MSFFB2 stick. Plug into a usb port and off you go. No need for a powered usb hub in my case.

The force feedback seems to work better in RoF than FC as well. Bonus!

I have news!

recap:

For some "REASON" the game crashes when I press FLY NOW after a serious crash or damage etc in game.

I have talked to the RoF "support" team and gotten no where. They were no help.

NEWS:

After struggling with another "bug" in the game ( snaps not being saved etc ...)

I discovered that IF I DO NOT TRY TO SAVE A SNAP OR EDIT ANYTHING IN THE MENU...

The game does not crash when I press FLY NOW.

IF I try to make a new snap OR change a key binding or edit something the "fly now" crash will happen.

The editing of the menu items and the crash ARE RELATED.

So what is going on ? There is some problem with RoF that is a bug or similiar.

People who do not have the "fly now" bug ARE not changing things in MP.

They have everything sorted out and do not edit anything.

If you edit something and then CRASH in game you will probably encounter the bug.

It is possible there is a third spoke in this wheel which the other two are dependant on.

More testing!

I flew in MP today and did not change anything in the menu. I did not have the fly now crash at all.

and yes I was crashing on purpose.

Oh what BS!

A zoom in and zoom out button is not asking for much.

And one lousy snap for the gunsight...

The fact that they keep changing is VERY WEIRD.

and the fact that it is part of the game crash.. is EVEN WEIRDER.

I would pay $$$ to find out why. What the heck is causing this ???

Arty thinks it's some kind of memory error. But I have scanned the memory and it's fine.

What else could do this ?

What is the problem ?

This has been such a pain the effing arse.

For some "REASON" the game crashes when I press FLY NOW after a serious crash or damage etc in game.

I have talked to the RoF "support" team and gotten no where. They were no help.

NEWS:

After struggling with another "bug" in the game ( snaps not being saved etc ...)

Hmmm, after some thought, I don't think it's a "fly now" or  a "snap" bug in-game thing. Why? Well no-one else seems to have these issues.  ;)

Maybe you have corrupted files Knalpy?  :(

Good luck old man!  :icon_cool:

Arty thinks it's some kind of memory error. But I have scanned the memory and it's fine.

I suspected the Fly Now bug to be a memory allocation error,  not your key assignment issue.

The problem is corrupted SXS files. These are hidden files used by the OS and the Program to do things.

One of those things is reading and writing stuff that is used by the game.

The SXS is being allocated work by the program. The SXS files are corrupted.

The game starts dealing with bugged out information and the OS shuts it down.

The game did not crash If  A) I did not crash in game and B) I did not adjust any snaps, etc which involves READING AND WRITING TO FILES.

( It did crash at times if I made a hard landing and adjusted snaps etc )

I ran SFC /scannow.

The problem has gone. It has left. It does not do it any more. I cannot replicate the game crash.

I have no memory errors. It all came back 100% fine.

THE PROBLEM WAS corrupted files. These files cannot be accessed by any normal privilege level available to a user.

You have to be very special to gain access and that is what SFC can do. The OS can use these files to do stuff.

It uses them all the time in RoF, that is why you cannot run the game without them.

Reinstalling software such as MSVC++ etc etc does NOT fix the problem. WHy the files are corrupted I do not know.

You can actually run SFC /Scannow yourself and then check the log to see if you had any corrupted files. I bet you do have some.

I am taking a wild guess here: Il-2 Sturmovik DOES NOT USE THESE FILES. and so it does not fail like RoF does.

Runs SFC and have a look at the log file.

The last time I upgraded my OS ( From XP to Win7 ) was simply to run ONE stupid game launcher.

Everything else RAN FINE !!!!!

Now I am stuck with the same effing problem.

ONE program is being a cow and I have to swap up.

Well I guess I can dual boot. Eye roll...

I thought I had the little b'stard this time. But no.

This problem is so weird. It comes and goes.

I will look at the Win10 options. I don't want Adverts on my PC at all. No no no.
