Fuby, do you know that rof server loads to clients .mission files instead of .msnbin files when both are available?
if you hides .mission files somewhere and leave .msnbin files than mission load time will be notably smaller.

Nope… didn't know this either… but will test it later today..

"I" thought there was a message stating to put "ALL" files on the server.. I also thought someplace it said if it cannot find the mission file it would load the msnbin file.. but it never said it would load it faster..;), nor did i read it as do it this way. These are simple things.. things that could really improve the Multiplayer side if they had someone do a WHOLE walk thru as to what is the BEST way to set a server up. thanks for the tip SAS, will give it a try to help those logging into the server.

I did ask something like this a while ago…

http://riseofflight.com/Forum/viewtopic.php?f=131&t=5748&start=0

…after I noticed the stock missions in the Dserver instance info window used the .msbin files but custom missions listed the .mission file, but when I tried with Hussars server to remove the .mission files leaving only the .msbin files in the folder I was getting 10019, 10009 and 10017 errors all the time and was unable to get into the server until I put the .mission files back into the target directory.

I recall that you needed to re-create the .msbin files after an update (? 1.08 to 1.09 ?) by compiling them through the mission editor again (though I can't find where I got that piece of information from), so maybe that was my problem I had (I can't get the ME to run on our dedicated server box remotely so had to do them here and get the .msbin files back up to the server)

Is there something else I need to do as well as hide the .mission files, or is moving the out of that directory ALL you need to do?

The server been running all day on the bin files.. but to be honest, if there is a boost in load times I do not see it.. but, will leave it like this for now. Looking forward to changes etc in the next release anyways.

Fuby,
just flew the Quick and Dirty mission, and it loaded super quick…maybe 10 seconds…as opposed to the usual minute ++.

well done!

–edit–37 seconds load time for the troop transport mission….38 seconds for the into the night mission.

fast enough that I had to get my watch out :)

1:38 for the mission after "into the night" though….was that mission changed along with the others?

Had a .Rof error after that, so didnt get to check any others. :(

Yep, mostly constant warping….jumping around of all planes. I saw this all afternoon/evening, with various pilots joining and leaving.
It used to just be certain pilots that caused warping. Now it's consistent.

You should reconsider your server choice tvrdi, I flew on the LVP server for 1-2 hours yesterday and I had no lag or warping at all.

No, you're not wrong, I find it a big problem to find any crowded European servers too. I do like the ToW server but I really feel the Atlantic Ocean in between. Hey, yesterday afternoon I had some freetime for once and I wanted to go online in Rise of Flight but guess what, NOBODY was online, not even on ToW. I really had something like "Hey, where is everybody?". I understand that not everyone has a free afternoon at the same time as me but finding noone online is still weird. and in the evening I mostly find people online on the ToW and COCOS servers. So, you're not the only one.

for some reason, some times the servers show only 1 person is on (the server itself), but it's actually got 6 or 7 people in it.

other times, it actually IS empty.

odd.

Fuby,
Is there currently a way for server ops to ban players? So if we have a couple of pilots that vulch *been happening a lot lately actually*, if they consistently keep it up, can this be addressed?

One pilot said "I fly where I want, how I want…" etc etc….heh, after shooting a landing (almost stopped) plane.

Like I said, it's been happening a lot lately, and just wondering what, if anything, can be done. Or if we should just accept it as the way it is.

late last night we had very smooth missions….just a rare short skipping of planes from time to time, but I think this is likely from some of the Far Away pilots.

I talked with Jason from 777 studios last night as he was flying with us, and we discussed the warping/lag issues. He stated that there will be extensive testing with the mp mode coming out, so they'll be focusing on the lag issues I'm sure.

and…
Positive reinforcement and specific/logical recounting of issues is more constructive than repeated posts in multiple threads regarding how much you hate the lag and how you cant play with it….just sayin.

There is the shutdownloads addition thing Fuby, at least it's a start.

I think Gonzo has managed to set the batch file up for Hussars, but there's other things happening on our server box right now, so I'm unsure if it will actually work as I think it will, but if it does then the amount of babysitting the dserver requires might be reduced a little.

Im seeing this version break down more than the others on the server side..POOF it's gone and yes the bat file is installed..I have tried with and without the shutdown in the config thru a bat file..I guess it does not loop when the Dserver Errors out..only on shutdown.. which, kinda makes shutdown= useless..I hate to take the server off line every 3 maps to have it restart…. May as well wait till it errors.. seems people are telling me it's down all the time now.. plus the added glitch warps.. if it's a start.. I can't wait to get to the finish line. ( I know..its the servers fault…;) )

Fuby, I'd sure like to see more D7F planes in the missions.
We were talking about it on the ToW server, and came up with the idea of at least having 2 D7F planes (reducing the Dr1s by 1 for the extra plane), so that at least 2 could fly together.

This plane is just fun to fly. Yes, there were very few produced historically…but the Dr1s were also rare.

Personally, I'd like to see a couple of D7Fs for each mission (except the early years of course), for the simple fact that the D7 itself rarely gets flown…just by newcomers to RoF who havent bought other planes yet. It's not an overpowered plane, but can hold it's own.
It'd be a nice complement to the Camel/SE5a and Dr1…giving the Dr1 an additional wingmate.

Kinda tired of seeing mostly/all Dr1s…but that's just my 2 cents.

Thanks for the OUTSTANDING server. You've established the bar that all other servers aspire to.

I sure do appreciate all the work you put into not only the server, but all the missions too! They are fun and very immersive. High Noon is my favorite, guiness run is also a favorite (of course).
You make outstanding missions.

ToW Admin

I just finished making a "mega" mission. Its a CTF mission on crack. I am quite sure there is nothing like it in any MP server yet bc it was a HUGE pain in the arshnit to make.

I have been testing it and getting bugs out and I think its 95% ready. The other 5% I wont find out about until people play on it.

I'll post the mission description and if you guys want it, let me know and you have first dibs.

This is a LONG mission brief. If this is your first time flying this mission, I recommend reading the entire brief. At a minimum, Read Section I.

Section I
Date: April 18 1918
Time: 12:30pm Local
Location: Somme
Weather: Clear, Winds from the West

How the mission Works!

Your team has enough resources to launch an offensive in ONE sector at a time. So, you will not be able to take over all three (3) sectors at once. It will take time and may prove to be impossible (which is the way the war went for the most part).

Aircraft CANNOT capture the flags. In order to capture a flag, your team must:
1) Escort the recon aircraft through their entire mission until they return to friendly lines and are deactivated while still in the air.
2) After you escort the recon, your team will then need to escort the bombers to bomb their target. Survival of the bombers is not important to the success of this step. The only part that matters is the destruction of the enemy depot by the bombers.
3) A ground offensive will begin after the bombers have successfully attacked their target. Your team must ensure that the five (5) vehicles survive until the flag changes to your side’s colors. The enemy has artillery that will be shooting at your friendly vehicles.

Balloons are the only intelligence your side has about enemy movements, including aircraft. If your balloons are shot down, your job of defending your territory will be more difficult.

Recon/Bomber aircraft affecting mission success operate at 3000m. All other recon/bomber aircraft are for immersive experience only and operate at many different altitudes.

Flack is set to Low skill and AI planes are set to Low skill. Balloon defense Flack is set to Normal skill.

Section II
Historical Background

In April 1918, JG1 moved into the Somme river valley in support of a German offensive. During the month JGI fought numerous aerial battles and saw the loss of several pilots including Manfred von Richthofen himself.

This mission attempts to recreate the time period. Airfields are in the “historical” locations as mapped by NEOQB. All aircraft in the mission are recorded in air combat by the “JGI War Diary” during the month of April in JGIs area of operation. JGIs airfields are occupied with a historically correct number of aircraft. The Allied side is as close to history as I could make it with the info that I have.

Here it is in the 99% form. If you find any problems, let me know.

This mission is far from the low down furball that youre used to! If you want instant action in a WWI airplane, you probably wont like this mission. I expect with 20 or more people on, it will be very entertaining though

Recommended Server Settings:
Friendly Icons On
Subtitles On
Locked Skins (to save memory only)
and of course the standard warmed engine etc

There is an airspawn version and a start on the ground version.

The missions on ToW are different, it plays like a TDM but uses CTF to have sequential missions. It's kind of like co-ops strung together, but with respawning.
One of them has 9 different missions in it, with the winner being decided by who completes the best out of the 9.
