When one joins up with a squadron especially with the german Jastas, all the planes in that one Jasta had perticular tail colors, for example Jasta 1 in 1916 had two white balls painted, Jasta 11 was red up to the white elevator, etc. If you need more info check out "Albatros Aces of WW I" from Norman Franks. When one does join up with a Squadron or Jasta with an Ace  in it, why don't we see them flying, and they all had their special paint jobs making them easy to recognize. The second issue is th AI of my comrades. Well to be honest its like bringing lambs to the slaughter!! Why is the opposition so good and my "buddies" suck!? I hope Rise of Flight is an ongoing project!?

Sadly, to your last question, No, it's not an ongoing project.

The game has been dead-ended for quite some time now, and the developer has focused all of their dev time on the IL-2 series of sims (Stalingrad, Moscow, Kuban, Bodenplatte, etc, ad nauseum).

As part of that same "family" of sims, they are working on a successor to RoF called "Flying Circus".  Currently, last I checked, the first installment (Vol. 1) is about 1/3rd complete with 4/10 planes. It will have it's own map (eventually), and right now, it's available in its semi-complete form as an "Early Access" product. Your guess is as good as mine regarding when (or whether) it will become "feature complete", but best guesses are at least a year away, and afaik, there is no expectation of it having a Career Mode.  That said, I haven't checked on it in months now, so perhaps, they're a little bit further along.

Regarding RoF's Career Mode, it is what it is.  However, there are several dozens (hundreds maybe?) of excellent skins you can download for career mode that will go a long ways to spicing up the looks of the various squadrons.  Regarding your wingmate AI pilots, about all they are usually good for is practicing formation flight, and being cannon fodder and aggro magnets for your enemies, until you can get around to killing them all yourself.   ;)

They'll occasionally be helpful, and on those rare occasions, I'd consider it "gravy", but honestly, in SP mode, you should assume you'll need to do all the heavy lifting.  That can still be quite fun though.   :)

Cheers,

:icon_e_salute:

The career mode does incorporate/use all the relevant units' specially-marked paint jobs, where such squadron markings were being used, during the relevant/appropriate periods during the war, as well as hundreds of aces' (and other pilots') personally-marked paint jobs appropriate to the time frames in which such pilots saw service on the Western Front.  Of course, you need to have D/L'ed and installed all those skins from the various Official and Community Historical Skin Packs in order to actually see those paint jobs in your game.  Links to all those skin packs can be found here:

Just ask this to https://forum.il2stu...12-suggestions/ and then only for Flying Circus, this RoF career mode has been closed for further development, while at FC, 1C is just at the start.

Yep I’m an 2009 Rof pre-order buyer and one of the few that did buy the Sikorsky game.

Yes, you are missing something - Career mode has been programmed to put these skins on all of the relevant AI planes, both for your own squadron/jasta and the other units that you may be flying against, as well as the individual real aces/pilots that may show up from time to time, as long as you have D/L'ed and installed the skins.

One thing to note - the skins are assigned based on historical periods of use, so if you're flying a very early career you probably won't see many of the skins (not many units were using such markings early in the war).  However, if you fly a career anywhere from about mid-1917 onward you should start seeing a lot of these skins.  And if you fly a career around March/April 1918, you should see the markings change during this period (e.g., German crosses changing from early to late styles, and British squadron markings changing because of the great German offensive in late March).

One problem we were never able to solve was trying to make the real aces/pilots show up more frequently than they do, so you won't see them as often as I would have liked, but when you do see them most of them should be flying in their appropriately-marked planes (we could only program in skins that had actually been created by someone, and there were some gaps of course even though thousands of skins were created).
