Guys, do I understand right that this time we will fly only "Weak-points" missions, no another types of missions like last year?

No Baron, we will be doing other missions like last year. Encirclement, Breakthrough, Retreat etc.

I just posted the link to the Blue (i.e. Central) Team attendance sheet on the Jasta 5 Forum, at the Blue Team Operations area. Please fill the info next to your name or, if it is missing, feel free to insert it.

Remember you have to login to the forum first. After hitting "login", if your name shows up near the bottom right of the aerodrome pic you are logged in. Just ignore that the user/password fields do not go away.

Then, click the following options:

Board index < Jasta 5 Campaigns (Black September & Bloody April) < Black September Campaign < Blue Team Operations

Blue Team, we need a leader with strategic vision or, better yet, experience! I don't, but maybe you do. Come forward and command us to victory!

Time is 1645-19:30 GMT. Check https://www.worldtimebuddy.com/for your local equivalence.

I believe this is the first map:

Encirclement Mission:  Arras-Queant Sector

On September 02, 1918 a mass attack earlier in the day lead by a Tank Corps pierced a massive hole in the Hindenburg and Queant Switch Lines.  Now the British are moving to complete the encirclement of the key town of Queant before nightfall. Play is centered around the ongoing pincer attacks, spearheaded by armored units, which must receive aerial support to succeed.

Encirclement Objectives

Entente have the following objectives:

1.  Complete the encirclement (taking at least 1 of 3 specific objectives, each at different depths inside enemy lines)  More points are gained by completing a larger and longer encirclement than a short and smaller one.

2.  Complete 2 long trench mapping missions in front of the encirclement to map a path for future attacks the next day.

3.  Destroy targets of opportunity to deny the Germans points (any units attempting to escape the encirclement).

4.  Maintain air superiority patrols over the flanks of the pincer attacks to prevent the defenders from rallying and launching a counter-attack.

Central Powers have the following objectives:

1.  Prevent the encirclement by supporting defending ground troops via ground attack missions.

2.  Support units in escaping the impending encirclement without being destroyed.

3.  Find and destroy the Entente artillery batteries that are pinning down the defenders on the flanks of the encirclement.

4.  Temporarily achieve air superiority over one or both flanks of the pincer attack, which will allow ground forces on the flanks to rally and launch a relief counterattack that can foil the encirclement – but only IF the associated Entente artillery barrage has also been stopped.

Great fights today gentlemen S! Big thanks to Jasta 5 for keeping this great event alive for the Rise of Flight community.  It adds a little something to it knowing we're simulating what was actually occurring in the skies over France 100 years ago nearly to the day!  Looking forward to the rest of the event :)

For some reason I couldn't load the map properly, I got a message that some Arras 1917 bitmp couldn't be loaded. I deffo had all the KoS Mods turned off in the JGSME. Loaded and unloaded the mods to no effect.  4 Speed said to clear the cache and I couldn't remember which file to empty, searched the forums 'clear cache' and no result. All the time I am doing this I have intense action in my ears as my colleagues engage with and kill their worthy opponents, it seemed most inappropriate to intrude with some nerdy techy query which probably wouldn't be heard over the sound of bullets whizzing, engines revving and pilots screaming! So that is why I disappeared!

Anyway this morning I deleted the unzipped KoS Mods from the Mods file, and the map loaded np. Who knows why?...…

Thanks for the helpful comments (again)

Had real fun yesterday and ended up with a rather stiff neck. Since I'm pretty new to this a lot is still a bit confusing and I'm very impressed by those who fly, read the map and still have an eye for wingmen and bandits. Very impressive.

I've found a working strategy for myself though, let Gamecock take the lead and stay close to him! You're a comfort up there, thanks.

Get it on chat. Some people are on their way to targets etc. and can actually read it.

Glad you got it sorted out, Spyboy.

The "cache" I was referring to (for RoF) is your missions folder  (where the MP missions download to).  It's usually here:  YourDrive:\777\Rise of Flight\data\Multiplayer\Dogfight

Man... I just stumbled in to this thread and almost fell out of my chair when I saw 32 players on a server via mods on client.  Wish I would have paid more attention to what this thread was, I could be flying with you all and providing ample target practice for the lot of you veterans.

Enjoy! Maybe I can participate next time.

Today was my first time ever playing one of these Sign-up locked events, and I had an absolute blast.  I loved the mission, the progression, the way that we were able to influence our section of the battlefield directly.  I should have signed up for these years ago.  I especially enjoy how the flying and fighting is more conservative with the death penalty.  It makes it even more heartpounding, and the decisions tougher.  I was bobbing under Phil's DH4, shooting up into him, and got down to my last 12 bullets, went for one last climb up hoping for the last bit of engine damage, overclimbed, and his gunner got my engine.  Last. 12. Bullets.  Luckily I was dead stick right above my home airfield.  I wonder if he made it back...

I almost made it through the day with a Vlife, but while I shot down the first Spad I went head-on with, I lost that coin flip with the second.

Big thanks to JG1_Loopy, Hook and Luftritter for flying and fighting with me.  We did a good job on our Southern section, I think.

My one regret is that it isn't a 4 hour mission!

Yes, great fun. Congrats to Central last night.
We had 2-4 Spads covering northern and central weak points, usually only 2 at a time tho.
North was captured by our tanks ok then Central sector then became a real tussle.
Some luck against single Gothas and escort, but when we started bumping into 3 Halberstadt CL2s and some d7s, that was tough. Hit and run tactics all we could manage.

Recreating actual battles and conditions is a brilliant idea.
Thanks to J5 and all involved in putting it on.

The ground dynamics and sense of purpose set these maps apart from others, and make the game rather more interesting. Great mission building work.

That was us in the Halberstadts and D7s, Echo was our station once Bravo fell up North (and it fell FAST).  I had to look up the stats, and yes, I hit you in the last half hour at Echo from far away, saw your Spad spew white smoke.  I had died a bit earlier (Larner got my D7 bad and chased me down) and was a gunner for Loopy, managed to tag the engine on your Spad from hundreds of meters away and 500ft above us.  We laughed about it on Comms.

I've never been in a combat formation of Halberstadts, it was a hoot.

Ah, makes sense. I couldn't figure out when I got that leak as it wasn't during any close pass. Good shooting, thought I was pretty safe up there.
Did get a great vertical dive on one of you, but couldn't do critical damage.

Gentlemen, we have a really close match here. After 4 weeks of brutal fighting Entente forces trail by only 5 points, which after last week's 10 point swing proves it's anyone's game!

This is a call to arms for all available pilots and observers to answer your country's call and lend your hand in what could be one of the greatest air battles ever known in Rise of Flight!

Volunteers can sign up at the down stairs bar of the chateau at the squadron mess. Good luck to you all S!

Thanks again for hosting this. Was a lot of fun.

There was discussion about changing some stuff around for the next black September. Someone mentioned that some of the maps were one sided in relation to objectives and it got me thinking. What if you guys did a "dynamic campaign" where the very first map was evenly matched. Based on the outcome of that map the second map would be one that favored the winners of the first map and so on and so forth throughout the rest of the campaign. So you could have two versions of the same map but favoring one side based on previous performance.

What a brutal way to end the campaign.  Salute to all those brave scout pilots who took their flimsy wooden crates over the frigid North Sea, knowing that doing your duty carries with it a high chance of death.

Larner, Rahon, did both of you go down from pieces of my aircraft?  The logs show I only tagged Larner lightly a couple times, not enough to cause a failure.  I do know that both of you got tight on my tail and made me shed some "extra weight" while I made last ditch runs on that stranded Felix.

Nope, I was running low on fuel when I spotted the two Monoplanes...I decided to have one last dust-up rather than use the last of my fuel to get home, and ended up in the drink just after getting in close behind you.

Tried to ditch on one of the British cruisers and get a ride home, but my SPAD slid off the edge as it turned...turns out I'm not a very good swimmer, either ;)

It was tough out there. Larner and I were fishing for Brandenburgs but only caught Fokkers..

Found the ships but also 3 D7s, managed to splash 2 but got split up. I actually wondered if the D7 pilots just gave up and took 20mins as it was faster than flying back!

We regrouped and luckily found the ships again, but no enemy. With fuel critical we turned for home, just as half the German air force turned up along with a Felix and a Dolphin! Tried to help the Felix but my engine was puffing so could only be a nuisance, or bait for Larner, who got some good passes in but we both ended up ditching with dead motors next to the ships. Damn Navy types didn't bother to pick us up, even tossed Larner overboard.

After taking 20, we had a few minutes at end to knock out German tanks and AA at weakpoint E but the Mission ended needing another 5-10 minutes for our tanks to get close and retake it.

Terrific campaign. Thanks J5 team.
Loved the different challenges and format as is. Just wish we could have had a few more Entente pilots.

:icon_e_salute:  and congrats to our Central opponents

Luftritter and I chased Larner off South for a bit, then landed to re-arm and went back out.  I'm surprised that the Logs say that you kept flying, Larner, rather than RTB for fuel (and we saw how that turned out lol).  Early on, the four of us jacked your two Felixes at the start, and you guys killed a bunch of us on the second run.  Was J5_Matthias the spotter Felix for the second run?  He was landed on the water, and in the midst of being shot to bits by Larner and Rahon, I managed to put that Felix out of action (so sayeth the logs) on my final last-ditch run.

What a crazy fight.
