Downloaded this tool to get rid of all the badmade, Swiss, clown and barbie skins at https://riseofflight...hl=skin manager
While trying to use this tool, I have notice that the plane is showing and can be selected to delete, only the skin .dds does not show.

Any solution to this or did I made a mistake inhere.

Yep I’m an 2009 Rof pre-order buyer and one of the few that did buy the Sikorsky game.

Been a while since I've messed with this, but as I recall there was a problem that Laser never fully addressed such that some of the preview pictures do not display correctly.  Too bad, too, 'cause the tool is really handy for doing some skin grooming/management.

Yep I still can remember the long stretcht preview, only now it shows nothing.
The path for the plane and skins are right, as show on the Lasers software screen.

If you're not getting any of the pictures at all it sounds like maybe the "helper" list may have gotten messed up somehow so the tool doesn't know where to go look for the preview pictures.  It's been a while since I used the tool, and when I checked it I realized that I never did add in a lot of the later plane types released, so I'm getting no pictures at all on those (and probably 20-30% of the other ones are coming in screwed up, which is the old problem I was remembering).

Below is a screenshot of the partial list I have in my tool at the moment - all you need to do to expand it to include the newer planes is to add items on the list with the appropriate equivalents for the folder names, using the same format/syntax as is on the list for the types that are already there.

Thanks, I did check everything and noticed that it can not read the dds skins or it is reading at the wrong place.
I change the preview path prefix for one plane to the right folder but still no luck.
This skin delete function should be included in the RoF own skin viewer.

Can you post a screenshot of your helper list (like the one I posted above)?  I'd like to try to figure out why it doesn't seem to be working for you.

I have deleted it, but soon as I finished my problems regarding PWCG 3.3, I will publish it.

Hi!

I think I might have the same problem.

I recently installed the game and Skin Manager on a new PC (with Windows10), the tool works but the previews do not show up at all.

I used it last time with ease a few years ago on the previous PC (with Windows7), only with the occasional blurred preview (but at least it appeared).

I've searched for infos on older threads, checked installation and files' paths.

Anyone else having troubles with it? Other suggestions?

Cheers!

Just went in to check my installation, and the tool is working just fine for me.  I just had to point it to my main RoF folder, and it pulled up all the skins and preview pictures just fine (though with some distortion of the occasional preview picture).  No idea why it's not working for others, though my best guess is still the helper list as I noted in one of the posts above. (Especially if you haven't used the tool for a whiule - even my version was missing several of the most recently released plane types, so of course the tool won't display the preview pictures for those types unless/until the helper list is edited to add those entries).

Don't forget, BTW - none of the skins specially made for PWCG (the ones whose file names have  "_PW_" after the initial plane type designation) have preview pictures, so if you have a lot of those installed (as I do) you will have a lot of skins for which the preview pictures do not display in the tool.  It took me a while during my testing to figure out that was why it didn't seem to be working.

In my testing I've re-confirmed that the problem the tool has in displaying distorted preview pics seems to be related to the fact that some preview pics are bigger than others (most are about 33Kb, but several are somewhat larger - the tool seems to choke on the bigger ones).  I think some of them were saved using the wrong .dds settings or something, and it didn't get caught in the testing/approval process.

I had pretty good luck at one point a while back in resizing/resaving the larger preview pictures, but something came up and I never got around to finishing that project.  Maybe one of these days.

Many thanks for the reply!

I'll try better looking at the helper list then, though I had already checked it and compared with yours, it seemed to be right.

We'll see.

While some have difficulties and some not is because if using the UNGPT.exe your hidden files are become visible.

Here is my skin.dds tree in RoF for the Felix, I have cracked the .gpt files using the UNGTP extract tool.

Attached File  skins ungtp.jpg   76.73KB   0 downloads

Now in the skin manager this path is now being corrupt as you can see here:

I don't understand what using the unGTP tool would have to do with this issue with the skin mgmt tool (I've used that many times and have not seen any impact on my skin mgmt tool), but it is true that the preview picture path in your second picture above is not correct - the correct path that should be in that part of the tool is "data/swf/planes" - if someone is having problems with the tool's preview picture display they should check to be sure that path is correct in that part of the tool.

@PH, could you check yours if you did have used the UNGTP cracktool.

Still think it is a shame that RoFs own skin viewer can not handle deleting skins.

BTW, this RoFskin viewer is still working!

Yep - I did check it as part of preparing my response above.  It was not corrupted, and I've never seen that sort of corruption previously despite numerous uses of the unGTP tool.  Of course, I must say that I never have used it (the unGTP tool) to put the unpacked files directly into my RoF installation - I always use a separate temp folder structure for that sort of operation, so maybe the corruption only happens if you use it directly on your RoF installation files?
