On April 1st 1918, just a year after the terrible experience of "Bloody April" suffered by the Royal Flying Corps, the Royal Air Force

was born.

We invite the Rise of Flight community to come mark the 100th anniversary of this historical event at the Cuban/SteveF Syndicate Connection Server's Vintage Mission Sunday on April 1st, 2018.

Attached File  iompo_cpp600x450_raf100_placeholder.jpg   76.73KB   1 downloads

We will celebrate and commemorate the real and ROF Royal Air Force squadrons with a slightly modified Syndicate map(Die Kaiserschlact) set 100 years ago to the day. We will be around the Baupame region, just north of the Somme, the site of many hard fought aerial battles above and gruesome trench warfare below.

Mission start time will be 1800GMT and approximately midway through at 2000-2030GMT, we will call for a temporary truce and encourage any and all to take part in a salute to the RAF with a Centenary Tribute Flight. Coordinating via in game chat, we will rendevous at one of the Entente aerodromes and head across the mud to the closest Central aerodrome and fire flares to salute the RAF.  There will be no engagements, bombing or recon sorties during the Tribute Flight.

This wouldn't be completely unprecedented as Alex Revell writes in his book, No 56 Sqn RAF/RFC, that upon scoring their 200th victory, "the squadron's entire stock of Very lights (flares) was fired into the evening sky -- 40 red, white and green lights lit up the countryside"

Afterwards we'll fly back across the mud and hostilities will resume.
So come out and Celebrate, Commemorate and Inspire with a salute to the historical and virtual Royal Air Force!

Salute to 56Sqn, Jasta2 and others for conceptualizing and collaborating on the event!

Steve, unless I'm mistaken, wouldn't 1800 GMT and 1900 BST (UK) be 1400 EDT and 1100 PDT (US)? You wouldn't want us Yanks to miss the party, would you?  ;)

Just a reminder that during tonight's VM, there will be a 30 minute truce to mark the RAF Centenary.

The truce will start at 19.45 UCT, all will head to the nominated Central base to form up for a flypast at 20:00 UTC and then hostilities will resume at 20:15 UTC.

I'll see you guys up there for the event and tribute.  :icon_e_salute:

For these Sunday events, is there a preferred TeamSpeak server that people usually use, or is it a split between NW TS and the Unofficial RoF TS?

For those of us in the U.S. time zones, the tribute flypast commemorating RAF100 will occur at 3:00 p.m. (Central Time). Don't miss the flare show!  :icon_e_biggrin:

By TS, I meant TeamSpeak. I see that the New Wings TeamSpeak Server has a channel for Sunday Vintage Missions. I'll be over on that channel for comms.

It was indeed a great event and commemoration! Thanks to Cuban for organizing it and to all who participated. I've never seen so many planes online at once in one place in RoF!  :)

S!

I cannot remember if I ever saw so much planes in one place myself! That was definitly a great ROF moment. The fun fact is that I was more afraid flying with all those planes around than in my worst fight against J5/J2/J30 etc... ;) Thank's for building this up! and to the Fokker Dr1 that followed me in close formation for a time: a neverseen configuration since 7 years I play ROF :icon_mad: .

Very nice flight indeed. A pity I didn't trust there would be enough time to reach the german aerodrome, or I might have taken an Albatros instead. Glad that Drookasi provided the extra diversity.  :icon_e_salute:

It was an awesome event, and I for one, am very glad I was able to participate along with so many other like-minded RoFians.   :)

Thanks to Cuban and Steve for hosting it, and props (pun intended  :P) to all the pilots who flew it.

It's events like this that remind me how cool RoF actually is (I only wish the devs had an appreciation for that same fact)

I know several folks were recording it, so I'm really looking forward to the videos as well.

Cheers,

:icon_e_salute:

PS> I really enjoyed the Central side's airport flyby after we'd all landed and parked.   Great Class shown by J5's pilots (and any of the guys with them in their fly-by) - very cool.

I still don't know if taxiing into a line was planned, but it was the perfect end to the event!

Although the whole time I was scared I would be that one guy that taxied right into the back of someone

Oh, and all the J5's of course! Nice going. Only saw it on the replay. S! J5!
