Aircraft Familiarisers (new index of collected links)
By Avimimus

Back in mid-2012, a user by the name of Avimimus posted a massive collection of photographs, details and lists of as many WWI aircraft as he could find. These were scattered across many threads, but fortunately there was an index...

Ref: https://riseofflight...ollected-links/

The problem is that there was a major re-structuring of the forums in the meantime, and that index of all the articles was completely broken because all the included URLs changed completely. Furthermore, the user databases was also altered, making it impossible to search for the posts using the user identifier (at least not for such old archived material).

Realising that the articles served as a major source of interesting material, I have attempted to "fix" the original index. The below quote is the original Avimimus' post, but with as many links as possible fixed. I could not find all of them however, and so those have been marked as "(MISSING)" (if you find them, please reply and let me know and I'll update the links).

Fortunately, I've been able to find nearly all the "Familiariser" threads, which contain a huge resource of interesting material and photographs for many aircraft - both common and obscure. It has certainly been very interesting to go through them. Thank you (albeit 6 years late!) to Avimimus for his hard work.

Hello Everyone!

It is virtually finished! We've gone through the profiles of over 101 different aircraft of the Great War and discovered which of them most capture our imagination.

Please think twice about adding replies to these threads (there are a lot of them). Adding historical details is great - but if you want to share your favourites it may be easiest to just reply to this thread.

What criteria make you want a plane? (MISSING)

Grand Poll - Central Powers Aircraft (from each category) (MISSING)

Grand Poll - Entente Multipurpose (from each category) (MISSING)

Grand Poll - Entente Scouts (MISSING)

The following are other posts that I have found during the search.

UPDATE (26-Feb-2018) : I have found some more links, which have been marked as (FIXED)). Some others which were broken, but not marked, and be marked as (MISSING). In searching, I've also found some other, unlisted work, which I have added separately at the end, and have marked (NEW). If anyone else finds any of Avimimus' material, please reply and let me know.

Thanks for making this effort.  I've tried to clean up a lot of the broken links but it's a huge task and not always possible to find or fix them.  Too bad the forum software "upgrade" broke things so badly - you'd think the process would have involved some sort of backward compatibility/preserver or something, but apparently not.  These links should prove useful for some of new folks brought in by sales or the buzz from Flying Circus.

Looks like these links are also not working....

Italian/Austrian Familiariser 1 - Austrio-Hungarian fighters

Italian/Austrian Familiariser 2 - Italian fighters

Italian/Austrian Familiariser 3 - Italian (land) two-seaters

Austrian Familiariser - Austrio-Hungarian (land) two-seaters

To bad really, the Austrian/Italian front is the second most interesting front of the war.

Some of the links seemed to have slipped through the editing process and were either not updated or were not marked missing. These have been fixed.

In the searching, I also found another link (of which I suspect there is more). I have added this to end of the post and if I (or others) find more, I'll add them in too.

Thanks Dietrich! I really miss some of the old forum material, it was often extremely helpful and interesting.
