S!

I am returning to the game after a LONG absence.  I have many of the planes in my stable and was wondering if I will be able to use them if I download the game from STEAM, or should I use the ROF website just to be safe.  Thanks in advance for the advice!

Welcome back!

Although I've heard that you can use Steam just to D/L the F2P copy without actually having it linked to your steam account somehow or messing up the DLC you already have from the RoF store, but if it were me I wouldn't take the chance. I think you're better off just using the copy from the RoF website or, if that link gives you any trouble, using the alternate link I've made available for that purpose, on this page:

It is perfectly safe to use steam as fast mirror for downloading non-steam version of game. Once you get the game, find settings.exe in game files in your steam installation, and use it to launch old-school RoF program. As far as steam is concerned, you will have downloaded the game but never run it, and it won't come in touch with your RoF account and planes.

It is also perfectly safe to run steam version of the game, log in with your old account and enjoy your planes... the only thing that causes problems is buying planes from steam and binding them to your RoF account - this is the only thing you don't want to do.

If oyu want to be safe, just use oldschool downloader. Steam is better if you want fast download or have connection problems.

Steam didn't work for me yesterday or today - no server content available, ie there was no way to download RoF from Steam.

Thank God panthercule listed the mediafire download link, which took me 14 hours to download.

Sorry the D/L took so long - I can usually pull it down in much shorter time, but people's D/L speeds vary so much it's hard to tell.  Glad it worked at least.
