The new Flying Circus title is by far the most impressive part of today's Sturmovik-Team announcement.

Rise of Flight + Virtual Reality will be a truly incredible experience.

I can't wait!

I was always an optimist about a new ROF but I did have a few nagging doubts.

Thanks Jason...Great news!

Cheers.

The 'yang' to all of this of course, is that it could effectively or actually kill off RoF as we know it.

Every bloody silver lining.. !

Not in long time. RoF will retain bigger planeset, maps and career mode for looong time. I suspect that for some time RoF will be still used by SP, especially Career Mode, and big events like FiF/BA that use bigger planeset. I also expect the casual, day to day MP to move to FC.

A little annoying detail, on the game poster you chose a Spad 7, while it is not part of the planset of volume 1 ...

I noticed that as well, but in my glee I gave it a pass. Perhaps we need to update it with a 103rd Aero SPAD 13. :icon_e_biggrin:  :icon_mad:

Welcome news, indeed.  When the pre-order button goes up, I will snag a copy.   Hopefully with enough interest ($$$) a volume II won't be too far behind that expands the plane set and adds a career / campaign mode.  Great first step though!

OMG - when I saw the pre-announcement about the announcement over here on the RoF forums I tried really hard to suppress my expectations and convince myself that they were just trying to reach the audience over there.  I figured that this was probably just going to be something Pacific-related (I thought maybe they'd say something about going to New Guinea before Okinawa or something like that).  So I was totally gobsmacked to read about Flying Circus.  RoF in VR - what a dream!  RoF has always been my first love (even though I've bought everything the team has done for BoX), but I haven't been able to bring myself to fly it since I got my Rift, cause BoX in VR is so awesome.  Now I'm over the moon about being able to fly RoF again when Flying Circus arrives.  And it will be a great excuse for buying the next gen VR units that probably should be coming out about then, too.

Good things come to those who wait :)

Now this announcement !

What kind of price point are we talking about here? I mean, if this is essentially a "re-furbishing" of the original ROF aircraft, I can't imagine that I would want to spend all the money I have already spent for those aircraft again. Is there a plan as to how the pricing is going to work? Will loyal, long-time ROF players get a discount of sorts? Will this follow the same pricing pattern as IL-2's expansion content has followed?

Have to agree with Plank on the slightly odd choice of Dolphin over N28.
BoBp for example, introduces the p51, p47, p38

Much of what was announced seems a smart alignment of
Dev resources,
Existing assets,
Leverage existing player base
Competitive advantage,
Time to market,
Attraction to largest market opportunity (ie US players)

So the lack of the already-modelled, US-centric n28 is a little odd.

Edit: I've just reread the announcement and the plane set is described as tentative. So still subject to change. Fair enough.

"Gathering his pilots around him on arrival he gave a pep talk, saying that they were equipped with the finest machine of all time and had three battle-experienced flight commanders. He expected every one of them to fight like hell and that it must never be said that any of them ever failed to go to the aid of a comrade, regardless of the cost, and that no patrol was ever to be late in taking off."

Great news! As much as I enjoyed RoF in the past, it's strictly VR for sims now for me, so if the implementation is good, I'm all in.

Also, with the greater computing power and higher core count CPUs available now, a step up in the AI would be welcome - but maybe that's too much to ask.
