Good for you!

When there are only about 20 people playing twice a week I guess it doesn’t really matter if everyone is cheating.

I can't believe how much of a fool you are, Talbot.  Its astonishing.

I don't know what other games or sims you play, but I'm guessing you're big into your WWI stuff.  They are few and far between.  Mulitplayer in RoF is clinically dead. A hope remains that FC will rejuvenate the particular niche, but I think there is a very real risk that it is stillborn.  The attitudes put forth and championed by people now will affect it's fate and it's ultimate character.  If you care about FC, and I'm guessing you do, you run the real risk of shitting in your own nest.

The thing that’s really amazing about the J30 cheating accusation manifesto is that they never backed down and never apologized. They falsely accused everyone who was better than them of cheating, and no one seems to care. Even after it was obvious to everyone that the real issue was that Wargrounds changed their stats algorithm, J30 never acknowledged it. Now they’re the “honorable J30”. Oh, and they were caught cheating. Talbot, you’ve got a pretty F’d up concept of honor.

The front was pretty quiet last night, in stark contrast to the fast-paced nonstop action of last week.

With only myself and Baer out on patrol, I was worried some of the Jastas would be out for revenge after we got the better of them at full strength in the past! We even later heard whispers of a rogue German pilot with ideas of coming over and blowing us up on the ground. How evil... ;)

However, we didn't see much in the way of Bosches at all, only really running into the occasional solo Scout or Gotha at altitude. There was a lot more activity down low from the 2-Seater boys, who were busying themselves hitting our targets, and Baer even had a close shave with a raid on our airfield!

As per usual, we had a couple run-ins with the  J30, who also had the odd scout patrol flying, but we saw no sign of the Circus, whom I imagine were kept busy with the stream of DH4s & Bristol Fighters heading across the lines.

When all was said and done, Baer and I had managed to fatten our scores a little and get home safely.

Until next week!

Yeah, with only 2 US103rds for most of the night, Larner and i had to stay pretty conservative, though Doolittle joined for a while and we had the Klugermeister along too.

In Nancy we kept an eye out for high D12s along the front but the danger arrived in form of 2 Gotha raids. My shooting was just lousy all night, but the J30 gunners weren't, and i paid the price for a lazy vertical attack in the first Gotha attack and lost a wing tip in the second.

Cappy was it's usual chaos, including one rather nasty 2seater that hit me as i took off from Cachy Bois. It was pretty long range but they oiled me good and i was lucky they got intercepted by a DH4 or Bristol.

Had a couple of scraps above the clouds, including one that we chased quite deep over enemy lines. Again my gunnery (and guns) let me down though.

Still we stayed alive, added a few to our scores and had a lot of fun.

:icon_e_salute:  Salute to everyone who came out. See you on Cubans next week!

Salute gents! Here is the German livestream from last Thursday:

https://www.twitch.tv/videos/458033824

Last Thursday was a fun night! Our numbers, while still not up to full strength, were higher than expected, especially with a new recruit joining us. Please join me in welcoming Jasta 11's newest flieger, Herr von Webber! It was my pleasure to fly with him, and I think I can safely say that in time he will be a competent flight member. He already impressed me by spotting a low-flying Bristol that I totally missed, and then proceeded to assist in its destruction.  :icon_e_salute:

Since I didn't have a good idea of who would show up for us, JG1 also played pretty conservatively for the evening. After receiving a panicked telephone call from the foreman at one of our local aircraft production facilities, (why our engineers built the factory so close to the front lines baffles me to this day  ) the Circus scrambled to rescue it from impending doom from Allied bombers.

We actually ended up saving the facility from being shut down for as long as we were on station. Also, we lost none of our defending fighters. And let's not forget J30 and J5_Karl Loppnow for accomplishing all the offensive objectives in fine fashion as well! All in all, a good night with objectives defended and enemy aircraft shot down. But you know what? The most special part of the night to me was the shared camaraderie of our small community, whether they were flying Allied or Central. I've said it a lot, but I'll say it again: the players make the game. Thank you to each and every one of you who came out and made it a fun night! :icon_e_salute:

Following the fly in, von Webber and I ran some training dogfights on NFF. Then, Dudley and I headed over to Flying Circus to look at...drumroll please...the new Bristol and Halberstadt two-seaters!  :icon_eek:  :icon_e_biggrin:  :icon_e_biggrin:  You can see a permanently-archived clip of my first flights in both aircraft here:

https://www.twitch.tv/videos/459346640

We even later heard whispers of a rogue German pilot with ideas of coming over and blowing us up on the ground. How evil...  ;)

 Shhh...you heard nussing. NUSSING!  :icon_e_biggrin:

Tense night tonight.

Firstly, 1st. Flight demonstrated how they earned their nickname of the 'Gotha Killers' by folding the wing of a bomber in spectacular fashion. Afterwards, off to deepest Hunland in search of some unwitting Bosches. Naturally, we were looking out for JG1, who were up in force. We were all a tad edgy - making a mistake on the wrong side of the lines can be disastrous for the unwitting flight. 1st Flight and Capt. Hunter went down to attack two Albs they'd seen as Talbot and I stayed up...and damn near T-boned a flight of 5 more albs! A quick dash away later and both squadrons were re-formed and sizing each other up from their respective sides of the lines.

It was then that an unfortunate straggler in an alb was spotted and quickly shot down. Unfortunately we had to finish off the machine to confirm the claim, as it was over the mud near the Bosche lines, and we wouldn't have gotten our confirmation if we let him glide. An ungracious end to our opponent, but C'est la Guerre.  A second straggler appeared and we got him too, before deciding we were chancing it a little too much by picking off loners under the noses of a big Alb flight. We got home okay but in a sad and bizarre twist Lt. Talbot was killed in a landing accident. His victory tally until then had been 9, with 2 more confirmations pending.

The third big tense moment came when J30 raided our airfield, and our current top ace of 37 victories, Lt. Baer, came horrifically close to being shot down by a suicidal Alb hellbent on getting one of us. Fortunately, we were able to save Mr. Baer and preserve the 103d's second-top all time v-life.

Things quietened down considerably afterwards, with some smaller skirmishes occurring and a couple more victories being scored.

Good fun, looking forwards to next week!

Salute to everyone who came out :icon_e_salute:

The session had a bit lot of everything.

The Big Circus formation, a 2 seater with multiple escorts, multiple 2 seaters, high SA loners, a deep offensive patrol, low/high LPs, tactical cat & mouse, the thrill of victory and, unfortunately, butt-clenching panic with a DIII on my 6 at ground level as i'm low energy. Fortunately squad mates saved my bacon, but it was a very near thing.

Was great to have Hunter back in command too  and Cuban joined us again, proving to several Huns that a Tripe with 2 guns is not to be taken lightly!

Apart from losing Talbot in a crazy accident it was a good night and lots of fun.

Stream replay with Timestamps is here.

Looking forward to next week.

Tonight saw some of the fiercest fighting yet...

Our patrol started off relatively mundane, and apart from one unlucky Albatros we didn't see hide nor hair of our German colleagues. After flying for twenty-or-so minutes with nothing except beautiful blue skies, we finally spotted something on our level, soaring over our trenches. Four Pfalz XIIs in a line.

J.G.1!

We turned towards our friends-and-rivals of the Richtofen Geschwader. Pulses quickened, gauntleted fists tightened on throttles. Four SPADs, four Pfalzes. Now we had a real fight. I was first to dive in - my opponent was unaware. I lined up my shot...and the rearmost Pfalz fell in flames. Immediately the Circus curved around to face us, and within moments the sky was a flurry of Crosses and Cockades, machines straining for each-other's tails - all with murderous intent. A second Pfalz fell away in a spin and disappeared below the fight. To my left, a SPAD flick-rolled away from a stream of tracer. In the centre of the fray were our two Squadrons' top aces - Baer and Hotlead - turning in dizzying spirals as they hungrily sized each other up. It would have been an epic duel, had I not intervened.

However, this was no time for Sportsmanship. I fired a burst at the German ace and he curved away. We thought it was over - that's when the Albatroses arrived. Three D.Vas, previously unseen, appeared from the smog of no-mans-land and dove into the centre of the fray. There was a flash of yellow, as a French SPAD sought to equal the odds. Below me, I saw another SPAD - a Red-nosed machine of 1st flight - diving away with a Pfalz in pursuit. I moved to help, but the Albatroses were upon us. I was forced away from the fight with tracers dancing over my head.

As I curved around the side of a cloud and sought my re-entry into the melee, I was met with a terrible sight. I saw Baer's SPAD nose up into a head-on pass with an Albatros. The closing speed was immense, and in a blink the two aircraft passed each other. Then, as I helplessly watched, our top ace's wing slowly started to fold. They had collided. In horror I watched as the ace of 42 victories plummeted to earth. His opponent - the stricken Albatros - teetered in the air, but flew on.

It was Talbot, leader of 2nd flight, that exacted revenge. One furious burst from his twin Vickers and the Albatros was spiralling to earth, a sheet of flame consuming its pilot. Below me, a Pfalz climbed towards him. In an instant I fell upon him, and send him falling after his comrade. Back in the centre of the furball, which had now attracted upwards of 20 aircraft, a SPAD danced in amongst three Albatroses. Suddenly, one shed its wings and fell into the graveyard-field of ruined machines below. I flew through a cloud, emerging from the other side, and...

...peaceful skies.

That has to be one of the most intense furballs I've been through since I started coming along to the fly-in. The initial attack, the late arrival of the Albatros flights, the lone-wolves that dove into the mix, the Gotha raiding party lurking below the fight...just amazing.

I offer a heartfelt commiserations and a huge congratulations to Lt. Baer, who, before sadly falling in the epic furball, had scored an incredible streak of 42 aircraft! In the history of the 103d, only one victory tally has been higher, and Baer has truly demonstrated his vast skill and deadly efficiency in the air. I'm proud to fly as wingman to such an accomplished scout pilot. Congratulations, Baer. I hope the next V-life scores twice as many.

All the action can be seen from the Entente side on Baer's YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube....h?v=KR3q_1IQ7GM . Baer will provide timestamps for the juicier action when he gets a chance. Sadly, it seems that there may not be a German perspective this week from Hotlead :(

Until next week, gents.

Great to see so many flying this week, over 30 for most of the evening. Salute to you all :icon_e_salute:

Larner has already worked his magic describing the big scrap, he has quite a bit of writing like this that most people don't get to see, so if he's agreeable we may try put it all together in a publicly accessible section of our US103rd site.

I was probably the only person not buzzing after the session, in fact decidedly the opposite. From my view i thought i'd done enough to avoid any contact, and the Albatros likewise, but somehow my flimsy Spad fell apart, whereas the sturdy Albatross carried on unaffected. :icon_e_sad:  After seeing other angles it does seem like a lag collision, which would explain why only one plane suffered.

After Reims, we patrolled Carpathian a while, hooking up with Klugerman and Cuban. I actually like the map and the challenge it presents.

Parsons and i found JG1 attacking Klug and a balloon and dropped in to try spoil the party, but both D7s we attacked got away and the air started to get thick with them so we left.

A bit more patrolling found a Halberstadt that still had its wings attached, so we fixed that, patrolled some more and landed out.

Here's the 103rd stream with timestamps https://youtu.be/KR3q_1IQ7GM

Looking forward to next week. Not quite sure at this point which server, but will try clarify in coming days.

Wow...that was a simply brilliant write up Larner! I'd post that on the ROF Facebook group if I were you. Just phenomenal, and very entertaining to read!

Unfortunately, multiple tech issues have affected my Twitch streaming, so it was not online last Thursday. We'll see if I have time to sort things out for this coming Thursday.  :icon_cool:

Finally, last but not least, HUGE salute to Baer for his insanely-impressive streak! It is a shame to have it end that way, but perhaps in another sense it is a small comfort that no one ended it by shooting you down. No one actually got you; simply the ill fortune that dogged great Aces like Boelcke finally caught up to you. Such is war. I have no doubt that your future virtual lives will be as impressive! :icon_e_salute:

Suits us down to a T! We try to credit everything based on corroborating reports with as little 'Parser Influence' as possible ;)

I believe JG1 also has their own scoreboard confirmation system, don't know how big a part the parser plays in that...
