Unfortunately I'll be 'on leave' next week, but I look forwards to seeing the action on Hotlead and Baer's streams!

Are you playing in Wimbledon ?

Had a lot of fun visiting the 103rd's aerodrome and joining in on a couple of patrols.  Thanks for letting me tag along! Those squadron sized brawls at those dizzying heights are really something.  I didn't know a Spad VII could get up that high lol

Hey Baer! Are you using OBS to stream to YouTube? If so, I can talk you through how I set mine up to do Flying Circus.

Thanks Hotlead.

Got it sorted in the end.

I use Game Capture so needed to "Add new" game capture for FC instead of copy the RoF one. Does mean i have to start a new stream, but that's fine. S!

If it's a real TrackIR, I'm not sure. I use Freetrack and a DiY cap, and it's a 32 bit app, so it does work with RoF and other sims, but it won't work with IL2-FC unless you grab the 64bit  .dll file  (NPClient64.dll). I found that on the Falcon BMS site quite awhile back and that solved it for BoS / FC, for me.

TrackIR may be a similar problem (ie, need a 64 bit version of the software), but I can't confirm that -- perhaps the BoS/FC forum can provide some more (specific) info for it.

Regards,

Try updating the TrackIR software to newest version. RoF TiR support has not been updated for so long it works with any TiR software, BoX went through several overhauls that were not recognized by older TiR soft. I remember having to upgrade once or twice.

Also, which version of TiR is that? IIRC TiR 3 works in RoF but not in BoX (unless they fixed it?),. TiR 4 needs some encouragment to get working and TiR 5 just needs software update.

Hey all. This week is on Cuban and SteveF's Syndicate server.

I notice that it will be the late evening of 4th July. I'm not sure if that means we'll get less folks flying or possibly more ;)

Anyway the US103rd will still be there and there's talk of finding the most patriotically-skinned Spads we can and trying to down a Hun with flare guns :D

Of course that may change if he shoots back with bullets! But come and join. It should be a lot of fun.

For anyone not flying but interested to watch, the US103 livestream should kickoff by 830pm EST here

See you all in Carpathia Mid.

How prophetic...

Immediately lost my chubby when I saw Carpathia. It was a bad omen. Flew on that map for a little over an hour. Saw only 3 Ai Gothas and a few red balloon flares.

S!!! to the Ai S22 that shot everyone down.

I'm sure the S22 was bored with the map too.

With the US holiday we didn't have high expectations for the session but we had 3-4 pilots up, and with over 20 pilots joining the evening turned out to be a nice slow-burner. By the end we were going from fight to fight.

Began for us with 3 engagements against a high J30 yellow D7f. Cagey maneuvering vs the D7's climb, followed by some intense attacks -  each time our numbers told but he got away. Very slippery that one. Then they started flying a nasty combo of Gotha gunship with D7f escort. Fortunately that brought the D7 down so we did have some luck.

Right near the map end with only minutes left, an epic scrap formed with 3 Spads, 2 D7s and a Gotha spiraling a down on each other. Although only one plane went down it was, unfortunately, our ace Larner. His wing, though only lightly damaged, chose to depart when he needed to turn. A sad end to an otherwise good night.

Big Salute to everyone who was able to come out :icon_e_salute:

See you next week on Wargrounds.

Another action-packed night for the Lafayette boys.

We put up a mixed patrol with individuals from 1st, 2nd and 3rd flights, headed by Lt. Baer (the only official flight leader present!!), and quickly assumed our patrol route. We were expecting, as per usual, to encounter a big JG1 flight, and we were all anticipating several furballs over the course of the night. We did end up getting into a bunch of big scraps...

although it wasn't JG1 who came out to face us today.

Indeed, not once did we run into our friends-and-enemies from Richtofen's circus. Instead, we faced off against J30, who have started to show increasing numbers and coordination over recent weeks. Their formation of 3 D.VII Fs and a 'Gotha Gunship' mixed it up with our SPADs many times across the course of the night, in some truly memorable fights!

During our last big scrap, I found myself in a 'Daisy-Chain' tail-chase. Parsons had a D.VII on him, which I was trying to kill. Behind me was a second D.VII F - and behind him, another SPAD! I can't imagine what the tracers looked like from afar.

When all was said and done, we had plenty of victories under our collective belts. Tragically, the night was not without loss. Lt. Hobbs, my wingman in 3rd Flight, sadly lost his wings in a dive during an intense furball. His final victory tally was a very impressive 12 EA destroyed. After watching the track back, it seems to be a complete mystery how his wings actually came off! But, as they say, C'est la Guerre

A big salute to J30, who gave us some awesome memorable scraps tonight - and another salute to Cuban, who joined up with us for our last patrols! Great fun flying alongside you, as usual (apart from the bit where you buzzed me on the field and I saw my life flash before my eyes)

See you all next week!

It was a fun session for sure.

We expected flights of high D12s or D7fs but kept running in to J30 battle groups, a heavy or 2 seater with lots of stacked escorts. Very dangerous, and if that wasn't enough, J30 Reinamann was flying and J30Mein was back!

We got a few but unfortunately lost Hobbs to that wing issue and, as usual, there were a lot of tough fights that ended inconclusively.

Highlight for me was diving vertically thru their formation for the Gotha - seeing the D7fs float up towards me then disappear from view as i zoomed past, but knowing they were putting their noses down and chasing for all they were worth. A long burst at the Gotha, the Spad shaking as i pray i don't get a wing hit at this speed, then flashing thru and away. Spandau rounds now flying after me from the chasing D7s. But i knew their turn was coming as my wingmen came down on them.

Salute to all who came out and helped make for a great session. :icon_e_salute:

Here's the look from the Hun side!

https://www.twitch.tv/videos/451543503

Had to say I felt really good about our boys last Thursday. No pilots lost, several enemy aircraft downed, and strategic objectives accomplished. Well done lads! :icon_e_salute:

We too were expecting to run into scads of 103rd SPADs but it seems as if our paths were not destined to cross, at least for that fateful evening. For our first sortie, JG1 conducted low-level factory defense and managed to save our tank factory from an untimely demise, despite a stiff effort on the part of 2 separate flights of bomb-laden Bristols. When the map rolled, JG1 then took to the high-altitude skies and patrolled in enemy skies while Dudley and special guest J5_Karl Loppnow nabbed all the recons on the map successfully. We were prepped for a fight, but had clear skies the whole way. However, on the return trip home, we encountered a nice surprise high and behind our lines. Timestamp 1:31:00 tells the tale.  :icon_mad:  :icon_e_biggrin:

Following that, I had to call it an early night. What can I say? Real life stuff has been quite busy for me lately. On that note, I will not be able to make it to next Thursday's fly-in because I will be traveling to Colorado for a cousin's wedding. Looking forward to getting back into the cockpit with you fine gentlemen soon after though!

As Baer says - last night was hours of pulse-raising action from start to finish!

We lifted in our SPAD VII 180hps, already with some sorties planned. However, the honourable J30 had set out on their first mission of the night and JG1 was lurking in the skies as well. The stage was already set for some high-stakes action. At first it looked like we would have an easy night - we caught some solo aircraft which we quickly sent down - but then we found a J30 recon flight.

Escorted by at least 3 Albatros, we spotted a DFW heading home. Our flight attacked, and a short, furious furball broke out. The action was chaotic and fast-paced. One moment I saw a SPAD diving away with an Albatros in pursut. The next, a different Albatros was falling in pieces with a SPAD zooming away. I started to track an EA, and there was a flash as Talbot came underneath my plane with only inches to spare between us. On all sides, planes were looping and twisting, with tracers lighting the clouds up like a christmas tree. An albatros appeared in front of me - I fired...and watched him fall below the clouds out-of-control.

Just as quickly as the combat started, it was over, and the survivors promptly turned for home, with the end result being a Pyrrhic victory for J30 - they got their recon ship home, but lost 2 pilots doing so.

From that point it was all going on. Gothas, Albatros formations, dogfighting DFWs...it felt as though we were right out of one scrap and straight into the next, with my last battle of the night being a big showdown with J.G.1 high above the clouds.

The victory claims haven't been confirmed yet (as there is a LOT to get through), but our two top aces Lieut. Baer & 2nd. Lieut. Biddle are set to break 30 victories and 25 victories, respectively. Huge congratulations to them!

Our special mission for the night was a balloon-busting raid. More specifically, the buster-to-be was 2nd. Lieut. Doolittle, one of our newcomers who was yet to score his first air victory with the 103d. I'm very pleased to say that we achieved this - and offer a big congratulations to Doolittle on his 1st victory as a 'Lafayette'!

All in all, it was a great night with some brutally stiff competition, and we had to work for our victories. Salute to all who came out!
