Well, it seems that some bozo(s) at Photobucket have decided to change something about the way their image-hosting site works in a way that has broken a lot of the links to the images I (and others) have posted on forums and replaced them with the following:

Attached File  bwe.png   7.04KB   1 downloads

When I tried to figure out what their problem was and how to fix it, as best I could tell they want users to sign up and pay $39.99 per month just to be able to post links to their pictures on forums.  When I tried to talk with somebody there about how absolutely brain-dead stupid this is, it turned out that their link to "Contact Customer Support" is broken (figures, right?)

So, I've spent the last couple of hours trying to find and replace as many of my broken image links in my old posts around here as I could find, but I'm sure I've missed some - if anybody happens to run across any of my posts with that stupid notice above instead of the intended picture, please post here or PM me to let me know where that's happening (thread and post #) and I'll try to get it fixed, too.

I hear ya, Panthercules.

It seems that Photobucket is looking forward to going belly-up, because nobody in their right mind is going to pay the ludicrous prices they're asking, just to host some photos on the internet -- especially given that there are a number of other free sites available.  If it helps, you're not alone. There are posts about these guys on several forum boards I regularly read, and none of them are favorable.

Sounds like their new policy is deserving of an appropriate Ron White quote...

Thankfully, for me, I only have a few images over there, and I'm going to yank those this weekend (so I don't lose them), and move them elsewhere.

Regards,

Oh, crap. Well, I don't have time to check the impact. I don't have my photos there, should be under 2 Gb. Jerks.

I had a bunch of images there, but I've downloaded them all tonight.  I'll never use Photobucket again, but I'm tempted to leave the images there so they'll chew up storage space on their system.  But I'll probably close the account, 'cause otherwise it won't look like they've lost me as a user. The ironic thing is that I'd probably have been willing to pay them some reasonable amount (maybe $5/month) if they had given us some notice and let us know they needed to make a change to bring in enough money to support their operations, but just unilaterally breaking everybody's links and grabbing for some ridiculously large amount is just unimaginably stupid - it feels like they saw the big ransomware attacks and said to themselves - "hey, that sounds like a good business plan - let's do that!"

I really hope they go out of business - stupidity of that magnitude needs to be punished severely.

Yeah, I was pretty ticked off too. :( I tried a few different things, and I think I'll be using Imgur now. As evidenced, my sig photo is back up, so Imgur seems to be working. ;)

Yeah - I tried using Flickr (that's how I got my signature image back working again), but it seemed to choke on some of the other images I tried to upload, so I'm still looking for a replacement.  Imgur was one of the alternatives I was thinking about trying, so I guess I'll put it next on my list.

Why not use your photo library on your hard drive?

Well, that won't do much good unless I leave my PC on and accessible all the time, which I don't.  I've just uploaded the pictures (from my hard drive) to the forum posts where I can, but some of the pictures are too big to meet the limits on some forum sites (like this one or BoS/BoM forums), so I'm still looking for a replacement for Photobucket where I can park my images and still link to them from some Forums.

S! All

My ISP allows me several gig of of space with my email account.  I use it as a home page and transfer site.  I Upload my pictures to a non listed page. I then can copy the image location from that page and use just like photobucket link. Check with your ISP to see if they have the same deal.   My home site   Fritz's

Yes, getting the dreaded...

When I go to the P500 link, the only pricing available to me is $399.00 yearly, no monthly possible.  This is ludicrous, like they've been hacked, but this is old news, would've been revealed by now... :icon_e_sad:

I haven't used 'Photobucket' in years.  When I did, they had way too many pop-ups and I once caught a 'nasty' virus on my desktop trying to close them as I attempted to upload an image. No more however, as I now use Postimage.org and the best part, it's free!

In addition, in 2007, 'Photobucket' was acquired by 'FOX' (of which I've never been a big fan)!
