First Time post, I have been working on creating historical avatars to use for the campaign portion of the game. At present I have roughly 264 Avatars of Pilots from 20 countries. Largest groups were US, England, France, Germany, but several pilots from various other countries were made. I tried uploading the whole file with jpgs but was too big. Therefore I am uploading the first installment, US Pilots of the Lafayette Escardrille. There is a gallery jpg showing the pilots. This first file has with it the documentation manual that includes a listing of all the avatars as well as instructions on how I created them. If members are interested in the avatars, I would be happy to upload but it will take various files. If I posted in the wrong area, please let me know.

This and the other avatar download files contain .dds files. I tried using jpg but found only dds files would work. This was stated in the ROF manual section 15.1 career creation, page 60 as a note to the picture Avatar Selection.

In this and other downloads I have a jpg gallery pictures that shows all the pilots in the download.

Welcome to the Forums!

This is the right place (or at least as good a place as any).

Properly-sized avatar images are only about 85KB each, so I'm not sure why you would be running into file size problems (you should be able to get at least 300 or so avatar .jpg files in a zip file that would still be uploadable here), but in any event it's good to see some new avatar choices - thanks for sharing.  (If you want to take a look at an avatar mod package to see how they work, you can check out the one linked to on my favorite mods page, here:  https://riseofflight...-favorite-mods/.)

Thank you Panthercules, It seems I should have texted to you before starting this endeavor. As it is I feel it is easier to post the remaining files. I have them broken into 8 files. Oh well. Thank you again and hope everyone enjoys the variety.

Lots of work went into this I'm sure - thanks for sharing!

Not sure why there are so many .dds files in your packages though - have you tested these in the game and will the game even use the .dds files (given that it seems to use the .jpgs in my mod package)?

If you don't mind, I'd be happy to wrap all these up into a JSGME-ready package and upload it for those who'd like an easier way to use them - just let me know.

Well this is interesting indeed. I got Rise of Flight through steam.

The manual stated in Section 15.1 Career Creation. (The actual page discussing the images was page 60.) The note under the Avatar Selection picture was...

Note: to create a custom avatar, first create a new folder called "avatars" (without quotes) in the \Rise of Flight\data\swf\ directory. Place your image (a 256x256 DDS file) in this new folder".

I tried using jpg pictures and the pictures did not show up in the game. Only the DDS files were game readable. But seriously, if you can improve on this... It is all good for me. I benefited from people uploading the plane skins. I was merely trying to give back to the forum. Thank you

I have all the dds files in jpg format, but alas even though these are only a few KB, I created them too big.

I found a freeware program that converted the jpg into dds files. All of that is explained in the word document in the download.

Interesting indeed.

Hmm - well now I'm going to have to go back and check this again - it's been a while, and the last time I really remember the .jpgs were working, but maybe they switched them to .dds somewhere along the way (like they did with the skin preview pictures).  Will be back after I run some tests.

[EDIT] - OK, that's weird.  Not sure what I was looking at the other day or why I thought the avatar pictures in my mod package were .jpgs - brain fart I guess.  I checked them again, and sure enough they are actually 256x256 .dds files.  Sorry about the confusion.

Well, no worries from here... I put in jgp of overall picture galleries such that people can see the pictures and decide which pics to use or use all. But again if you can roll these up in a mod, feel free to do so. Thank you again.
