Looks like a promising start for VR flightsims. It came out yesterday and most reviewers seem to think it gives a great sensation of flight and height.

A VR option on ROF would be awesome. Any chance that may happen in the future?

Hmm.

So you get the really tiny screen, make the head mount contraption, lenses etc.

Use your normal head tracking set up and... VR.

How hard can it be?

I wonder where you get the super tiny screens from that plug straight into your graphics card...

Salute!

So, you pay $20+ for the game and a ton of money for the VR headgear (and you have to buy a cell phone too?) and wind up playing something that looks like the graphics from a 1980s Nintendo game?

I must be missing something here.

No lo, plank asked about a small screen so I said cell phone, I've seen VR using cell phones but I'm sure they don't compare to the rift. The rift cost like $500.00 or more then you need the computer to run it.

OK, but even without the cellphone you still spend all that money for the VR unit and a beefed up PC/vid card to run it, and you still are playing a game that looks like crappy 1980s Nintendo games?  I guess I still don't get it.

I guess I'm glad to see some people are getting excited about stuff like this - maybe it will translate into sufficient interest and sales to enable the devs to move to the next level (or 2 or 3) with the technology, which seems like it should eventually be pretty impressive if well implemented. I'm just surprised anybody would find that particular program fun or enjoyable (unless maybe the last flight sim they played was on a Commodore 64) - I guess I expected a lot more from something seemingly done specifically to showcase VR capability.

I believe they are working on getting BOS to run on VR, But yeah way to much for me to spend right now and I'm happy with just my head tracking at the moment. Not only that there's still lots of work to do on VR. like the resolution is not great from what I here. I'm sure one day it will be the norm for gaming and movies as well. Conference call,s and whatever else there is.

I saw a video where there is a warehouse  that has a game all in VR with you walking through an actual set that's all set up for a game, in VR you sit on a chair and they have a real chair there, you go in an elevator and they have it so you feel like your in a real elevator. I believe it's a first shoot game.

Nintondo gfx surely helps geting framerates "up where they belong". A smooth gameplay surely helps against VR sickness. besides I would guess you see enough for the spacial sensation inherent to VR. Nd I guess this is the point of this "demo software".

Wow you are smashing in and thinking that Rof members are ..... I can tell you, that you can always try an VR set at an shop when there is an demo as I did. Was it great, sure, same as at the 3d shutterglass demo I also did, a couple of years before.

Yep I’m an 2009 Rof pre-order buyer and one of the few that did buy the Sikorsky game.

Wow

I've never tried VR (yet), but I did watch the video posted in the OP, and I stand by my opinion that what I was seeing on that video looked a lot like bad 1980s Nintendo style graphics.  I wasn't commenting about how anything else (DCS, BoS, etc.) looks in VR, but strictly on how that particular video (about a game that was supposedly designed to show off VR capabilities) looked in the video that I watched.  And I still think it's weird that somebody would be excited about that particular game in VR, unless they haven't flown any flight sim since their C-64 days.

I think the problem here Panther is your seeing it on a 2d screen where he is in a VR world and see's thing so much more different than you are. Now granted that sim is very elementary compared to the ones we have today and in the future. VR will come down in price at some point when the Chinese start building them. Just like 4k TV's.

You didn't try a flight sim in "VR" either, the head mounted displays that are now being marketed as "VR" are as far from VR (full body immersion) as flat screens. I remember times when Wolfenstein 3d was called "VR", I have no doubts in couple of decades some other gimmicks will be marketed as "VR" without being it.

Also, who died moved to BoS and gave you right to tell people what can they discuss and where?

About prices you are right and do not forget an high performance PC it will need, only in my perspective it is also maybe better to wait for the next gen. VR technologie! Guess this should not a problem because WW1 flysim fans [RoF and WoFF] still do have to wait for a decent VR wrapper, which I still think is not available.

Well, maybe, but from what I've read about VR I'd be really surprised if the game in that video would magically look a lot less like 1980s Nintendo graphics just because it's being played in VR gear.  But yeah, I guess it's hard to say for sure unless you actually see that game with a VR headset.

True it does look kinda nintendoish, but I'm more or less pointing out the VR possibility's for the future. It will take a while before it's affordable for the 99% of us. But one day you will just go to the dollar store and get one. One day :icon_lol:

As a CV1 owner who now flies DCS and AeroFly FS2 in VR, I really hope we  ROF move to VR. Sure the res is not what one would like as compared to a monitor (especially 4k) but that doesn't matter to me anymore. I ran with a HD 147" display, Trackir and 3d shutter glasses for years. No more. This is a game changer and simply can't be described -it has to be experienced. The sense of scale alone is amazing.

Games that add VR support as an after thought vary in graphics quality depending on how far along they are in development. I haven't got BOS/MO yet but will as I have no doubt I will enjoy it. I don't doubt the reviews I have read by other VR users as they know what I know. This is first generation and will only get better and cheaper, but the immersion is fracking off the scale. Real 360 degree 1 to 1 head tracking is unmatched by any other techniques developed to date. The addition of frame duplication methods like Timewarp and pixel density controls also help improve image quality if you have the horsepower.

The VAST majority of posts by 4k users that move to VR say the same thing " I can't go back to playing on a monitor now". Sure you notice the loss of sharpness going from a monitor, but that disappears at lot after a while as your brain compensates and even before that  trade off is worth it because of the immersion and scale (the size of everything is so realistic).

I was considering a bigger hard drive as I was getting tight on space until I got the Rift. After that I deleted all my non VR titles. I will never play in 2d again. I tried that and it was like flying a picture. Now I am in a plane.

It is good to wait for next gen kits if money is tight, but you owe it to yourself as pilots real or simulated to at least experience flight in VR.

Be aware that if you are waiting for 4k in VR, although there are versions being developed, it will likely be a couple of years or more  before a desktop PC has enough juice to do that well. These HMDs are initially going to be deployed as commercial ventures at that res for a while yet. The implementation of techniques like foveated rendering, render forward and VRSLI will go a long way to alleviate help, but these and often DX12 need to be coded into a game to work and we all no how long developers take to code new features.

I bought the Rift for DCS, IRacing and Elite Dangerous. Those 3 games alone were worth it for this gamer. I did not purchase Touch controllers when they game out as I saw no compelling reason at the time based on available games. When Oculus halved the price and included Robo Recall for free I bit the bullet. WOW. What an excellent set of controllers in VR. Anyone who has experienced Robo Recall and doesn't find the graphics good enough by todays standards needs to have there eyes check, imo. Games like this, designed from the ground up for VR, are the benchmark for gen1 VR. Then there is the mod for Doom3 BFG "Fully Possessed". Full Touch support and voice controls. Perfect scale. This is a whole new game and shows those who would add VR support after the fact just how well it can be done. It is a great time to be a gamer.

UPDATE
Finally got IL2 Battle of Moscow with VR added. HOLY CRAP! This is the best flightsim in VR yet. Absofrickinlutely
amazing work by 1C/777. Rise of Flight must get this. I own everything in the ROF store and can't play it anymore, but would glady pay big bucks for this upgrade. Come on 777, I have now seen what you can do with VR. Knowing your love of the history and flight, you can't not want this for the best WW1 sim ever done. I (and apparently a lot of others) had held off on the IL2 BOX series until VR was added then jumped all over it. As a member of the 100% club who bought ROF whenit first released, I beg of you -give ROF the VR majic it deserves.
