I have never really been able to figure out much about the RoF mission editor, but I thought I'd be able to do this myself.  However, for some reason I'm having more trouble than expected and I can't even get RoF to see any of the missions I've tried to create/save lately.

I'm planning to keep at it and hopefully get that problem resolved, but in the meantime I'm hoping that someone here can whip me up a really simple mission so I can speed up the progress of my map project (the one in this thread: https://riseofflight...st-zig-zags/ ).

All I need is a mission with nothing but the player's plane in it (a DH2 would be preferred, but doesn't really matter), with an air start at 1,000m altitude - clear weather, 3:30 PM, no wind, no turbulence or any other stuff.  Hopefully something I can just start up from the mission list page and be flying around free-flight at the designated starting point.  I need this on the Western Front Summer map (although eventually I'll have to figure out how to change the map so I can do the other maps).

I'd like the start point to be in the middle of NML just north of Verdun, but eventually I will want to be able to move that start point around to be anywhere up and down the front I want to start.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hmm - not sure what's happening, but when I try to select the mission from the list in the game it's telling me that the map needed for the mission has to be purchased (though I own all the maps they've sold) and it will not let me start the mission.  Forgot to mention in the first post that I need this on the Western Front Summer map (although eventually I'll have to figure out how to change the map so I can do the other maps). (I've updated the first post accordingly).

I'm not sure what happened, but I get the same massage, here is the first one. Attached File  Zig Zag.zip   2.47KB   9 downloads This one the starting point is just South of the front, with a North East direction.

P.S. Zig Zag r was made from the above file.

Perfect!  Thanks a million!

BTW - I'm figuring out how to move the plane starting point around by fiddling with the X and Z coordinate numbers (and why did they make it X and Z and leave Y for the altitude instead of the more typical X and Y with Z for the altitude - is that some sort of Russian cultural/regional difference at work?), and I guess that'll work fine once I figure out the scale/relative distances involved.  But, is there any way just to drag the plane to a new starting position?  I've tried a few variations of mouse click/drag combos but haven't found one that works yet.

Anyway, this is going to really help speed up the testing as I begin to move further away from Verdun with my map edits, so I really appreciate the help here  :icon_e_salute:

Yes First "left click" on the plane to high-lite it. Then "left click" on it and hold, then move mouse to desired position then save.

The X Z Y thing is some what confusing, being a hobby machinist, must be a Russian thing. ;)

Another tip.  When you open the mission with the editor, there is the mission name with a "+" to the left of it.

Left click on the "+" and it will give you the mission contents.

Now double left click on the "plane" and it will move the map to it's position.

Close out the window that opens, then right click on the map, then click "ortho view"

OK - something seems to be going wrong.  After I left click on the plane and seem to have it highlighted, all the mouse does is change the view (e.g., rotates the view so I'm looking up at the sky or wherever) - the plane itself never moves.  I wonder if maybe there's some kind of setting in the mission editor that I don't have set right to make the mouse behave properly?

As noted on the screenshot below, I just want to be able to drag/relocate the plane from its current position down to the red X.

If dragging won't work, is there any way to click or otherwise figure out what the coordinates are for the X spot, so I could enter them manually into the plane item's properties to put it there?

[edit] just saw your note about "ortho view" - I'll give that a shot.

Perfect - that ortho thing did the trick - moving the plane worked like a charm, and much easier dragging it than trying to figure out the coordinates.

This will be a big help - thanks for taking the time and getting it done so quickly  :icon_e_salute:

In this view, when holding the left mouse button down you can change the camera angle,(up-down,left-right).

And using the mouse wheel you can change the elevation of the camera.

Holding the right mouse button you can move the camera back and forth and right or left.

This is generally working well, and it's very helpful, but something weird is happening that I hope someone can explain and/or help with.  About every 2nd or 3rd time I try to open the mission editor, it comes up looking like this instead of like the normal, nice way:

Attached File  RoF Mission Editor screwup1.jpg   288.71KB   0 downloads

Sometimes I have to close it out and restart a few times, or even reboot, to get it to open up correctly.  Any idea what's going wrong and how to fix it?

Don't close it out, just go to windowed mode then back to full screen.

Ah - Thanks - I'll give that a try - was getting really annoying.  Wonder why that happens?

Guys this thread has been really helpful. I've started goofing around with the mission editor and managed to make an extremely simple duel scenario, thanks to these tips. Most appreciate the help - it's smoothed the learning curve significantly.
