Black day for the 27th Aero Sqn.
The squadron still equiped with Nieuport 28 and in the process of re-equipping with Spad XIII take part in a escort mission for two Salmson 2A2 from the 1th Aero Sqn on a photographic mission to Fisnes. The 27th Aero Sqn pilots, flying a mix of Nieuport 28 and Spad XIIIs, completed three circuits over enemy lines while the observers in the Salmson 2A2s changed film, but on the fourth circuit they were attacked by eight Fokker D.VIIs from JG 1 east of Fere-en Tardenois. The 27th Aero Sqn lose six pilots killed or taken prisoner, five of them falling to Jasta 4 and Jasta 6.
