Update 5/2/16 - thank you to all the community participants in this years event.  Community, team, and individual awards are posted here:  http://www.jasta5.or...aResults6.htm.

For immediate release - please forward this message to your fellow pilots and link this thread in your forums.

Flying & Fighting

Fame or Flame?

Bloody April VI– Arras Sector

Rise of Flight

March 18 – April 30, 2016

Jasta 5 is proud to present the Rise of Flight community with the sixth Bloody April Campaign:  Bloody April VI – Springtime in Arras!

The inaugural Bloody April campaign was critically acclaimed and since then thousands of flight hours have been logged in what has become the RoF communities premiere world-wide annual multiplayer campaign.  The campaign runs each year on each Saturday of late March-April.

Campaign History:
Bloody April is distinguished as the first ever community wide team campaign in Rise of Flight.  It was originally conceived during the Red Baron 3D days in 2006 by J5_Paul Bäumer and brought to life in Rise of Flight through collaborations with talented Jasta 5 mission builders such as J5_Rumey and J5_Matthias and several talented community members over the years.

Campaign Victories:
Bloody April I was won by Entente on the last mission of the last day after 12 missions flown over four weekends!  A climactic end to a hard fought month long battle! In 2012, Bloody April II resulted in a tie after over 1,000 flight hours were logged!  In 2013 Entente was victorious once again.  In 2014, Central won in a decisive battle.  2015 Entente were victorious.  What will happen this year?

Campaign Developments:
Following in the footsteps of the ground breaking innovative events of previous years, this years event continues to push the envelope of the currently available RoF features and community mission design for maximum realism and immersion set in a historical and primarily objective based event.  This year’s event will be situated in the Arras sector.  The event will be historically based but not a historical reenactment; it will be immersive but not at the expense of enjoyment while continuing its ground breaking tradition in mission building and realism over The Front!

Overview: a total of 7 two-hour missions will be conducted Friday and Saturday.  Three two-hour missions  Friday will be late afternoon and one night missions while the four two-hour missions Saturday will span the in-game morning and early afternoon hours.  Missions will be flown on Fridays, 1800-2400 GMT and Saturdays 1600-2400 GMT.  There will be plenty of room for everyone to fly in the premiere RoF multi-player campaign of the year!

Jasta 5 is proud and honored to be in a position to once again present this updated and improved immersive community wide event.  Please support the RoF community through your participation.

We look forward to meeting you all in the skies over the Arras sector this year!  Draft rules and registration is posted on our event website!  Block out your flying calendars, and start checking your equipment and register today!

*March 5 will be a rules seminar at 1900 GMT.  A practice server will be up the following week using similar missions and server settings as the actual event.

Individual pilot registrations are required and will be approved on a space available basis and at the discretion of the event organizers.

Official Event Schedule of Events and Registration Portal: http://www.jasta5.org/events/bloodyapril/index.htm

Draft Rules:  Posted to the Event Forum (must be registered for the event to view and download). http://www.jasta5.or...&p=24644#p24644

Yes! Was checking the forums a few days ago for this.

Managed to lock myself out of your forums whilst I desperately tried to divine my username for it in my excitement. So count me in for the entente, preferably in an F.E.2b. :)

For anyone considering doing this, I've done this about three times and it is awesome fun and the most realistic RoF can get.

Can't wait.  :icon_e_salute:

BTW the drop down tab in the registration form only has BA V as an option... not BA VI.

Looks really interesting.

I've read through the rules, but remain confused on several points.

1.  There is mention of "nominations", but I can't figure out what this is about. Do participants need to be nominated or something?

2.  I'm not clear on the aircraft restrictions. I do not have a full RoF plane set. Which aircraft are needed? Can I fly my preferred type (W12)?

3.  I am moderately new to RoF.  What level of experience/skill is required to take part? Is it suitable for newcomers?

Thanks.

It is as advanced as it gets .

1. I don't see a word of nominations in manual, can you elaborate?

2. The list of aircraft is in manual. The draft version is:

German single seaters: Fokker E.III, Halberstadt D.II, all Albatrosen.

German two-seaters: Gotha, DFW, Halberstadt, Roland

British single seaters: Nieuport11* , DH2, Strutter B, N17 GBR, SE5a, Pup, Tripe, Spad7

British two-seaters: Strutter, FE2, DH4, Bristol (early), RE8.

Planes not on the list are unlikely to appear, and planes on the list are unlikely to all be available in same mission - don't expect to have choice of both DH2 and S.E.5.a, for example :).

3. The BA is flown with high realism, no icons, no communications outside your flight. Teamspeak is essential, not only to communicate with your flight but to participate in briefings/depriefings and receive new orders after you land. Some two-seater pilots are send after objectives, alone or with escort, and are expected to look after themselves. Other pilots are broken into flights, with assigned leader, planes and mission, and are expected to work as a team. As time passes, planes are lost and list of available objectives shrinks, the more planes you have the bigger chance you get of getting next assigment.

The BA mission flow for new pilot with few planes works more ore less like that:

1. Get assigned to flight of experienced pilots flying plane you have. Take off with them, try not to lose contact with them, complete your mission, stay alive, bring your machine back if possible. It's all well ordered and planned for first sortie.

2. If you survive, report for more orders. If your flight survives, expect to take off with same plane and same people. But as mission goes on, you may be asked to join another flight, with plane you may or may not have. Or to take two-seater and go to bomb something because we're short of living pilots. Or hear there is nothing that needs to be done with planes you own. Go back to this paragraph if you survive.

3. If you die, you can only fly as gunner. No more dillemas! Hope you know how to hit a plane from back seat...

I recommend joining Flanders in Flames weekly tournament for practice (each Saturday evening), it follows similar rules. If you end up on blue team, feel invited to join Jasta 2 flight to get feel of how teamwork and communication in tournament enviroment works. We always have 3-4 pilots flying together.

Not meaning to be exclusive here, but in serious tournament play such as Bloody April you should field (have in your account) at least all the aircraft for the side you are flying (except maybe 2-seaters, unless you only fly them...)

It is not expected, but then you can't complain if the aircraft you are assigned by group leader is one you don't have.  Not deliberately pushing you to buy more aircraft, but really they are not expensive, and If you want to seriously get into the community events then think about it...

Nominations are for awards after the event.  Most valuable ego, etc... :)

That's fine.

I wasn't sure, which was why I was asking first.

I do take flight sims seriously and play with maximum settings/realism. I can certainly get the required plane set too. But experience and expertise will take a while longer to acquire.

It sounds like I should give this a miss for now. Maybe next year.

Thanks for the replies!  :)

Don't! The worst that can happen is that you'll be learning hard way. The very worst that can happen is that you will lose your flight, get lost in countryside then shot sown by enemy flight, but even that only happens to pilots to proud to admit they need help keeping formation until it's to late :)

Actually, the worst that can happen is that you don't give it a go. Try it for a couple missions, then decide.

We will have about 6-9 pilots ready for the event and BTW we would like to fly Centrals for the first time in six years in BA :)

Many Central squads are flying Entente planes lately plus J5 was on Entente side last year so we could swap the 'traditional' sides ?

I registered as a solo pilot -- I don't have a side preferrence (and didn't select one) , but I will be quite happy to fly for whichever roster has an open spot.

Looking forward to my 1st BA!

Adler Legion was for Entente twice (BA III and BA IV), last year (BA V) we were Central. Now (BA VI) we prefer to fly Centrel also.

Last year was great. Excellent plane set.

Uhm, Last year JG1 was Entente. Since then we have figured out how to really use the FE2b.  I would join Vonrd in flying Entente    :icon_e_smile:

Most of the J2 pilots want to fly as Central this time (majority of active pilots were flying only one BA, one where we flew as Entente).

Myself, I could go both ways. Last time, flying the underdog Entente planes alongside pilots from J5 and 1PL (I was lucky to get attached to both occasionally) was the best setup I could ask for :icon_e_biggrin: .

I hope i manage to complete the registration properly. The event of the year is here. But thise time 1PL and J5 should be on oposite sides. The last year event was unfear for central side, suverly outnumbered, and without same of the squads wich wonted to change side and fly central.

Just hope thise year we could have a beter and equal side to make a event more intresting and fun.

So you're talking yourself out have having a good time with a fun group of people?

My first real attempt at multiplayer was BA V. I have to miss the first two weekends this year (it was one last year) because of schedule conflicts, but I need to fly the unfriendly skies again.

Forgive me if I've missed this in the various documentation.

Is there a list of mods we require to participate in BA?  I don't have any mods installed at all currently, so if we need some, a list would be very helpful so I could look at getting them installed on my PC this weekend in time for the event.

Thanks in Advance!

Fourspeed, this is the link to the mod you have to download and use for BA: https://dl.dropboxus...ge 03082016.zip

If i read and understood correctly this should be the only mod you have to use for BA6. Its about 312 mb large zip-file

The sides have been set    see here, http://www.jasta5.or...php?f=60&t=4766  Make sure you follow the directions for joining your sides usergroup!

The server is up for testing, MUST HAVE PROPER MODS ACTIVATED and mods turned on in the game.  see here for info  http://www.jasta5.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=60&t=5261

Also, some squads have been registered on the BA parser, but their squad members have not been added. CO's should try to get their members to "join" on their squads page, then get them accepted ASAP.

Anyone having trouble with this, or needing help doing it can PM me here or email me, gamecock@jasta5.org , just put "parser help" in the subject line.

 S!

(is there a french version?)

Since we talk about unboxing, here what I received today ;)
