So, I have heard a lot about RB3D but never played it myself, now I came across a cheap CD copy in used games store and I'm tempted to give it a try. Is there a point in playing it today without nostalgia filter on? In particular:

Will it work on Windows 7, 64 bit?

Will the flight models feel arcade, or right but simplified?

Is there a definite patch/mod collection I can install, forget and enjoy the game, or is it "different incompatibile mods for different situations" like in IL2 1946?

Can I get my TrackIR / pedals / throttle quadrant work as intended?

The cockpits I saw on youtube / screenshots are all ugly and rather unhistorical, with gauges lined horizontally across modern style dashboard. Were the cockpits ever patched or modded to look more historical?

Anyone still playing it?

Imo RB3D is pretty outdated by now in a graphical and the Flightmodel sence, though it was excellent in its time. It's more a nostalgia thing than anything else even if the Campaign mode is certainly still very good even or should I say especially by todays standards.
No idea if it will run on a Win7 machine when installing from a CD Version. If you haven't bought the CD already I would rather recommend the GoG (Good old Games) version from here http://www.gog.com/game/red_baron_pack" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.gog.com/game/red_baron_pack this one should work on modern Operating Systems.
Out of the box it doesn't support TrackIR,but there is a work around here http://gabi-laser.bl...-utilities.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://gabi-laser.bl...ot.de/2011/03/r … ities.html but no guarantee it will work on windows 7.
As for multiple Controlers,it's a very old Sim and it will only detect 1 controller,so If you can't merge your controlers into one, like it's possible with CH Gear for example, then you might just be able to use your Joystick. Maybe there is a workaround to make use of multiple controlers but I dont know about it.

Only Mods I can remember are "Full Canvas Jacket" which needed to be bought, propably isn't sold anymore by now. And the "Hells Angels Super Patch" http://www.hellsange...re.com/main.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.hellsange...re.com/main.htm which was and propably still is for free.

Edit: Wings over Flanders Fields is propably the only recent Sim that comes close to the feeling of old RB3d,if you are looking for an alternative.

Dann gibt's Heulen und Zähne klammern, für das ganze Lumpenpack.
Dann ist Schluss mit "Tischlein deck' dich", da gibt's "Knüppel aus dem Sack"!

I still like to fly this sim once and a while.
But to get it to best quality requires a bit of reading.
I too have w7 64bit. It does produce some unwanted effects at times but generaly runs well.

What it lacks on the graphic side it makes up with its campaign…still the best of all sims to date (mhop)
