Well, the old girl was getting pretty tired, it seemed that there were more patches than original fabric. The left lower wing spar had so many doublers and scarf joints that she leaned left all the time. The engine had been replaced 3 times and the prop twice, once it was holed by my own guns (the ammo that we get is so unreliable that it threw the synchronization off). The fuselage had taken on a twist and was so soft that you could leave a gouge with your fingernail… damn rainy weather!
So, they sent me off to the Pfalz Flugzeugwerke in Speyer to pick up a brand new DIIIa. They would paint it as I wished so I decided to give it a little flair, nice bright yellow checkers so that my wingman would be able to find me after the scheiss hits the fan and he invariably gets seperated.
They've assigned the old girl to some new replacement.. Bruno something… Spaetzle, Spackle… ah, Stachel, that's it. I guess he's not too thrilled with her. Too bad. Hals und beinbruch Bruno! :S!:

Air racing in a PD3?… LOL
Thanks Hillbilly
I just wanted something that could be easily recognized by my squad mates from some distance. May be a bit over the top but I've seen other, even more garish skins.

Hillbilly this skin doesn't look very plausible, just because something else has checkers on it doesn't mean it's the same thing :D

With that logic; all the planes have propellers so we can paint them however we want and they can be historical.

I simply didn't vote.

That was your argument wasn't it? :D

It's my opinion and I'm entitled to it. I personally prefer personal skins to be historically plausible which his isn't… not to say it's bad but it doesn't fit my idea of what a ww1 plane should look like (I've definitely seen way worse offenders) but that's why I didn't vote.

Here's what I think: the black is EXTREMELY black and the yellow is a bit bright. I think if he took the checkers off the wings it would look more realistic. make the wheels solid yellow or white. Maybe do something with the tail?

Edit: kinda' like this:

Just my opinion.

As I said, this skin's main purpose is to allow easier identification by my squadmates from a distance. It is not an attempt at a historical representation. I always welcome a critique, and after reexamination I do agree that the black and yellow are too intense. I would probably get tired of it quickly. To that end I've revised the colors and welcome comments.

Revised colors are very nice and give a better overall historical appearance.

The colors look a lot better :S!:

I am aware that you weren't trying to make the skin with any sort of historical context, I was just giving my reason for not voting on it.

I'd change the yellow to red to match the devil's color.
