How to create skins for planes?

Hi Guys, i am new to this great game and this site.

I have been looking a bit around on this forum, but i could not find a "guide" or a "how to" create your own skins for planes.

Anyone who can give me a link for a guide?

I have photoshop, is that enough to make skins in, or should i use other programs aswell?

Photoshop is perfect to create skins in ROF!
But wait for Panther to explain you how to do, or point you to a tutorial.

Yes, Photoshop works well, but you will probably need a plug-in to view and render .dds files (skins).

@ YBTHEKING - The thread he linked to has all the info you should need to get you well on your way to creating skins for RoF. Just beware - I started out just wanting to make a personal skin as an homage to my new car, and now 1000+ skins later I'm still cranking them out.

It can get to be addictive - you have been warned :lol:

I'd say, why not go for it!  Chances are slim to none that there will be any more approved skin packs released for RoF (I'd be happy to produce/process them if the devs would give any indication that they'd be willing to do another one, but it does seem unlikely at this point), so you'd only be able to see/use them when you play in "mods on" mode (which pretty much rules out their use in MP), but between QMB missions and PWCG there are plenty of opportunities to see/use them in the single-player game.

I could have a go at it, are you planning to fly night missions? Dunno when I'll get around to it, busy with the BIG PROJECT..but I'll try. I don't know if there are any units using the Brandenburg in PWCG, anyone?

Hi... Regarding this topic. I've followed all instructions accordingly, installed the nVidia Texture Tools Exporter, but it just so happens that the interface has changed a bit, and I don't seem to have the 2D texture option anymore, when saving the file. Is anyone familiar with this new interface and how it would be possible to export a file correctly? When I export the dds and use it in the game, the skin doesn't seem to reflect any light whatsoever.

I'm not familiar with any new interface (been using the same PS version since the beginning), but it sounds like whatever you are doing is probably stripping away the alpha channel.  You might try exploring the various save settings and try to pick one as close to the old one as possible and make sure it says it is going to include the alpha channel in the end result.
