Hey Pat - here's tonight's pack - a total of 48 skins for two flights of RFC No. 70 Squadron's Strutters and Camels for periods from SEP 1916 through NOV 1918. The skins and spreadsheet info can be found here:

http://www.mediafire....5 - RFC 70.zip" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.mediafire.../download/yczvj … C%2070.zip

That wraps up the work for No. 70 Squadron.

More later.

Hi guys,

I've downloaded all the skins on PWCG site in order to test the 15.5 skin handling feature, but now I'm in doubt about how to install them.
The first file (AD3_Mar1917.zip) contains the following folder structure: data\skins (so I thought it would be correct to install it under ROF\ROFCampaing\data\skins, as some older post from Pat suggested).
The second (AD3_May1927.zip) has the structure data\graphics\skins, which pretty much refers to the original ROF structure, so I thought it should be put inside ROF\data\graphics\skins, mixing them with the "official" ones.

Which one is correct?

ROF\data\graphics\skins\[a/c folder] is correct.

A couple of points to try to clear confusion. This is all very new so things are not as organized as one would like.

The skins on the PWCG web site:
1. The skins on PWCG are not the same skins that will create individual planes. The skins on PWCG are there to provide squadron skins with historical changes in camo and markings. By all means do get them, but they have a different purpose from the skins that are the subject of this thread.

2. The skins on the PWCG web site are for use in game just like any other skin - PWCG really doesn't care about their existence. In the end they have to get into <Rise Of Flight>\data\graphics\skins\<airplane>.

3. The skins on the PWCG web site are set up to be installed as a JGSME mod. JGSME is the intended mechanism to make #2 happen.

Personal skins:
Creation of individual personal skins is in its infancy. The only such skins to date are the ones posted by in this thread by Pathercules. The only way to get them for now is to wade through the thread and download zip files. These zip files are not yet configured for easy plug and play so if you want to use them you have to unzip them into a temporary directory, figure out which plane they belong to, and manually copy them to the right directory - i.e. <Rise Of Flight>\data\graphics\skins\<airplane>

It will get better as we move along.

Pat,
Two follow-ups to the above …

1a) What determines the available personal skins for a squadron? Do you need to "tag" the skins when they are created, and then this does not take effect for players until the following PWCG update?

1b) If the above is sort of correct, can/will you be able to limit the "available" personal skins to filter out the skins that are not from the correct timeline?

2) Did you ever answer Panthercules' question regarding the "more descriptive" text in the GUI displaying, rather than just the file name? (couldn't find your response, so sorry if I just missed it)

Hey Pat - here's another pack - a total of 25 skins for two flights of RFC No. 84 Squadron's SE5a's for periods from SEP 1917 through MAR 1918. The skins and spreadsheet info can be found here:

http://www.mediafire...C 84 SE5a's.zip" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.mediafire.../download/p91h9 … SE5a's.zip

According to my sources, no personalized markings/numbering were used by this unit after these periods, so this wraps up the work for No. 84 Squadron.

More later.

BTW - if you want I could create JSGME-ready "mod" packages for each of these new packs and put them on my MediaFire site for people to download, if you don't want to do that on your PWCG site. Just let me know.

Just a heads up - I'll keep posting new pack announcements here as I get them ready, but the links to all these new packs that have been scattered throughout the pages of this thread are being collected (and the packs re-arranged to be JSGME-ready) and can be found in post #9 on the first page of this thread (click here to go there: PWCG 15.5 Focus on skins - need help ), so you can get them there without having to plow through all these pages to find them.

Some are ready now - others will be added as the uploads are completed.

stupid question for the day .. should i delete them all from there and install as mods via your jsgme versions?? what is the benefit of that - please explain

thanks very much for all your hardwork (and of course to all others in the community and Pat!!)

No real benefit if you've already done that - probably not worth going to the trouble to re-install. I always use JSGME to install skins, 'cause it makes it so much easier to manage and re-arrange things (what with all the skinning, testing, processing and stuff I do things get out of hand pretty quickly if I don't enforce some rigor on myself somehow). But, it does take up twice the hard drive space to do it with JSGME (not an issue for me, as I have a couple of spare terrabytes on this rig, but could be for some folks) so some folks may not want to do that.

I just thought it would be easier for folks to have the option to either use JSGME or not at their discretion, so packaging them up as JSGME-ready packs seemed like a good idea (and having all the links in one place certainly seems like a good idea compared to digging through all these pages).

hi panther - i tried the n26 skings but they don't seem to be showing up?

placed them same as all your others which do work??

is there a naming glitch between your file names and pwcg?

i choose the french squadron when i complete a campaign .. listed in pwcg as '26' and changes to 'n26'about july 1816 if i recall, but your files seem to be named f26?

not sure if that is all good and i have done something wrong this time, but i don't see any of them when i go to assign to pilots in my squad?

Grabbing the latest for inclusion in 15.7. I will try to revise the skin assignment page to allow assignment of loose skins, but that is a non-trivial bit of work as it has to be organized inside the framework of known skins. Loose skin assignments will be pretty much do what you want, but you own the results.

I am also including 100 skins that I completed for Jasta 16b. Albatros D.III (10), D.Va (30), Pfalz D.IIIa (20), Fokker DRI (20), D.VII (10), D.VIIf (10). That will probably be the extent of my own contributions for awhile.

I don't think you're going to be able to see these new skins from my packs in the pilot assignment page/list in PWCG until Pat gets around to updating his PWCG files to incorporate them (which of course he can't do for every pack that I post as I post them, so there will most likely be a bit of a lag as he collects and reacts to these postings before they actually show up in PWCG).

Pat, I created SIXTEEN different skins for Jasta7's D.Va. I don't need to include all of them, but I will definitely make all of the unique artwork/graphics available for use with any D.Va skin (just copy the pre-trimmed layer over any squad's D.Va .dds file and save as a new .dds).

I made a preview image of all 16 versions on a single side-by-side image for reference. I can upload that image this evening for your (and Panthercule's) approval, and then upload the versions I/you/we chose for all three time periods.

As long as the skins are available then all I need is a file name and time period.

Time period is very important for the DVa because it went through three distinct phases: Mauve/Green/Green, Lozenge with Maltese cross, Lozenge with Balkan cross. However, that is only for perfect completion. If the schemes are not available for all phases then I will just include what you have.

Yes, I'll have all 3 time periods uploaded late tonight. I'd just like to cut it down to 10 or 12 each, so I was hoping I could get some feedback before deciding …

Don't forget, I have black and white rudder versions of each, so I'll end up with 60 skins (if I can limit myself to 10) as compared to your Jasta 16b's 30 D.Va skins.

It can get overwhelming really fast. I said 10,000 skins to cover it but that is probably low. Germans alone might have 10,000.

We have our interests - You J7 and me J16b, but one thing that I would like to do is make just a few for different squadrons rather than focusing on a single squadron. That would add a bit of color to each unit and make flying against them more interesting.

Anyhow, more than anything else I want the skin creation process to be enjoyable. That is why I set PWCG up to take whatever is out there.

That's why I'm going to maintain a .psd share file for each plane I do. Anyone with Photoshop or Gimp can create a new personal skin for ANY squadron from a menu of my 16 skins, using nothing but copy layer/save. Unfortunately, the D.Va is the only one I've completed, but the others will go faster now that I'm done "creating"…

Pat,

Here are all of my current available PWCG personal skins. They will be available in my first post of this thread once uploaded.

Attached File  PWCG AD5 uploaded skins.jpg   1.73MB   88 downloads

Note: I eliminated the option for the rudder color to reduce the overall number of skins. Now, each skin will have either a black or white rudder.

Dude,

Just one players opinion…please make all of these available for download. Even if Pat can't use them all, any one of them would still be available to use as a player's personal skin in the full directory.

I will admit I think there is just about nothing more handsome than a factory finish Camel, but when I fly German I fly only the most colorful squads and Jasta 7 is one of my favorites (Black counts as a color :)).

I would like both the white and black rudder versions of all of these if you've already got them made. I'll bet a lot of players would like to download all of these in every version you've got.

If you forced me to choose, I would omit the ones with numbers or letters as that's pretty much all you get with Allied planes. So if I had to pick a subset I would drop the numbered and lettered ones and take everything else in both black and white rudders.

Thanks for the great work whatever you decide to do!

Pat,

Here are all of my current available PWCG personal skins. I haven't decided yet which ones I'm not going to upload for Jasta 7, so I would be open to feedback or any objections to any skin in particular.

Note: the names in this example have "B" after the individual identifier for the black rudder version, and all have the suffix "E" for the early version. I will render and upload all the available varieties once I decide of which ones I'll use.

…please make all of these available for download.

No problem. I'm leaning towards selectively limiting each skin to either black or white rudder for PWCG (just based on appearance for each), and that way I could include all or most of them for Pat's next version. I've made all of them, however, so I'll upload them and PM a link to anyone who wants EVERYTHING.

Thanks for the feedback! :S!:

Here are the Jasta 7 AD5 skins (48 total):

http://www.mediafire...5_PW_G7_All.zip" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.mediafire.../download/a70md … G7_All.zip

The dates would be:

XXXXXXX_E (Early - May17 thru Oct17)
XXXXXXX_M (Mid - Oct17 thru Mar18)
XXXXXXX_L (Late - APR18 onward)

I'm assuming we could have a month overlap with the Early and Mid paint schemes …

Pat,

I don't know if you've downloaded any of my previous historical skins, but they are what I'm using for my templates. Also, I do think the Jasta 7 AD3, AD5 and PD3a default should use the black rudder as the default, but I have no idea how much work it would be for you to change that for PWCG. They are included in all the downloads (except for Degelow's PD3a).

Here's a summary of my changes and additions with links:

Jasta 7 AD3: Complete overhaul of entire paint scheme to make it more consistent with known historical data (at least, based on the D.V).

AD3_Jasta_7_MAY17 & AD3_Jasta_7_MAY17_blk (May'17 - onward)

Jasta 7 AD5 Added the black rudder versions for all three time periods. Fixed the pink surface on the upper wing on the early, white rudder version (see following image).

OK - the next pack is ready - a total of 21 new skins for Esc. N103's Nieuport 11s and Nieuport 17/GBRs and 17s (Lewis and Vickers) - the JSGME-ready pack can be found at the link in post # 9 above (click here to go there: PWCG 15.5 Focus on skins - need help ).

The SPADs for this unit will be next - hopefully tomorrow.

Pat - the spreadsheet info for this group can be found here:

http://www.mediafire...3 Nieuports.zip" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.mediafire.../download/il6zz … uports.zip

(Note - the date info I have for the French units is a bit sketchier than for the British, so if you have better info by all means use it).

Will probably do another release this weekend that will include all of the skins available by … let's say Friday evening. I am pretty well caught up - need to configure Panther's last two posted packets and Dude's Jasta 7 skins.

Dude: I can configure PWCG to use the black rudder as a preference and fall back on the other if it is not there.

I also redesigned the skins page to allow the assignment of loose skins to any pilot. This way you can assign unconfigured skins on your own squadron.

Using the Johannistal mod for Albatros DIII in PWCG, will there be any skin issue? :?

Hey Pat - I'm working on the 2nd half of Esc. 103's skins (their SPADs) and should have them posted in the next couple of hours or so, so hopefully you can get them into this next release. In case it helps, the spreadsheet info for the Esc. 103 SPADs pack is ready now and can be found here:

http://www.mediafire...c.103 SPADs.zip" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.mediafire.../download/4cj2i … 0SPADs.zip

I'll post the skins themselves in the usual place when they're ready.

I will check up to the last minute to leave as little as possible behind.

Once 15.7 is out players will be able to assign skins to their squadron mates without PWCG updates. They will show up in the loose skins section. The configuration will still be needed to properly organize files (take them out of the loose skins section and into the squadron or generic sections) and to make flights outside of your squadron use them.
