Sorry if this is supposed to go somewhere else but, when using the skin selector for PWCG, how do I know what skin I am selecting? I just see a bunch of numbers that don't seem to correlate with squadron numbers. For example something like 0000-103 does not mean SPA 103. I am really quite lost on how to know what I am choosing.

Well, unfortunately PWCG doesn't have a method for previewing a picture of the skins (and it wouldn't do much good even if it did, as there are no preview pictures for all these PWCG-specific skins that have been created, although there are for all the "approved" historical skins that PWCG uses).

I think the simplest but still pretty useful solution would be for Pat to implement some sort of text-based description to display. I suggested at an early stage of the skin project that we could create a simple text string description to accompany each of these personal skins, if the code for PWCG could be tweaked to pick it up and display it to the player, but Pat hasn't addressed that suggestion yet as far as I know (probably has not had time to think about it much, given what else he has had going on).

For the several hundred recently-created skins that have been added as part of this skin project, since they follow a standard naming convention you should be able to get a pretty good idea of what they're going to be just by looking at the names that are displayed in the top-most skin assignment window (at least for most of the Entente planes). For example, for RFC No. 70 Squadron's Camels you will see a list of skin names like the following in that top-most window:

SC_PW_GB70_A1_E
SC_PW_GB70_A2_E
SC_PW_GB70_A3_E
SC_PW_GB70_A4_E
SC_PW_GB70_A5_E
SC_PW_GB70_A6_E
SC_PW_GB70_C1_E
SC_PW_GB70_C2_E
SC_PW_GB70_C3_E
SC_PW_GB70_C4_E
SC_PW_GB70_C5_E
SC_PW_GB70_C6_E

From that you will know that these skins are for British No. 70 Squadron (GB70) and that the first one will be in "A" Flight marked with a "1", the second one in "A" Flight marked with a "2", the third one in "A" Flight marked with a "3", the seventh one in "C" Flight marked with a "1", etc.

Of course, if you're choosing skins from the other windows (or even some in the top window that were created before the naming convention was adopted) it's kind of a crap shoot as to what you're going to get without some sort of text descriptor to display.

If Pat ever is able to create the capability for PWCG to display such a text descriptor, I'll be happy to provide him with the text strings for all these skins so that it will be easier to figure out what skins you're assigning on these screens.

Thanks for the help, I was just having issues getting my other squadmates to use the correct skins. RFC 56 squadron seems to use the default skin for the SE5 except for historical aces like Rhys Davids. Oddly enough though I encountered two Rhys Davids in the same mission. One in my flight and another following McCudden.

I don't think Pat has incorporated the new skin text file that contains all the new No. 56 Squadron PWCG skins into PWCG yet - should happen in the next PWCG update/release. If you don't want to wait you could D/L and install that file yourself, from my post up above (post no. 412, page 42). If you use JSGME to do so, be sure to remember to deactivate it before you update your PWCG version when the next update comes out.

Jasta 15 personal skins have been uploaded here: PWCG Personal Skins for Any Jasta

Although I included them in my previous text entries, I forgot about their blue wing versions, which reduce some of the extra camo/lozenge skins, so I've updated the complete Central text entries and it is available here: http://www.mediafire...Skin_Update.zip" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.mediafire.../download/m47um … Update.zip

Malletmut;

This a rich topic and one could go on for awhile regarding skin codes. Suffice it to state that the all number skins are the ace skins from the official pack.

Anyway,what I do is use a free viewer - Ifan View - to quickly move thru the skins and pick the one I want.

.and even more skins to d/l - what fun! Thanks Dude.

FYI: My Alb D5 folder contains 700+ skins w/ NO fictionals - besides the 10 or so I made for my own personal use.

Hi
I just generated mission from PWCG v15.10.1 (N11 campagin Esc No.3 may 1916). In mission file i see lines:
Desc = "Fokker E.III of Jasta 16b"; Skin = "fokkere3\501016.dds" - but i don't have this skin in my …\data\graphics\skins\fokkere3\ folder.
although I have E3 Skins OSP 1.031 and CHSP Vol.1-15 for JSGME

same with:
Desc = "Roland C.II of FA 16"; Skin = "rolc2a\501216.dds" - although I have G-Pack-PW-Roland & DFC for FA 7,16,18 & 23-JSGME and RC2A Skins OSP 1.031 and CHSP Vol.1-15 for JSGME skins packs installed;

and this:
Desc = "F.E.2b of No 2 Squadron RFC"; Skin = "fe2b\102002.dds";

Which pack i have to downlad to find those missing skins ?

As far as I know these skins do not exist - they certainly do not exist as approved historical skins in any of the released skin packs. Pat had some unofficial skins on his site for a while - not sure if they might be in there or not. I suspect that they're just placeholders that Pat programmed in just in case anyone ever did create the unit default skins for those planes/units (if the file name exists, the game will use it, but if not the game will just ignore the incorrect/non-existent file name and display the generic default skin).

I'm not sure about these units (would have to check my research materials), but many of these units did not have any unit-specific markings, especially early in the war, so a lot of these early planes don't have unit marked skins because they didn't exist IRL.

Jasta 65 personal skins have been added to the first post of this thread: http://riseofflight....kins-any-jasta/

Pat,

Here are the updated skin text files for the AD5 and FD7 (the only skin files affected by Jasta 65): http://www.mediafire...Text_Update.zip

Note: I don't know if anyone else has modified those files since the last official PWCG version ...

The Dude did some really excellent work on a decidedly "second tier" Jasta based in the Verdun area.  It's nice to see a lesser squad get the works!
