Yep I’m an 2009 Rof pre-order buyer and one of the few that did buy the Sikorsky game.

Looking forward to seeing it after you've added the fixed bayonets and gotten the glint from them working with the bloom settings

Brilliant stuff… do you envisage these as 'eye candy' or will they be viable targets for ground attack too? :)

This is indeed some interesting magic you've worked. Does it take much of a graphic hit on things? How do the infantry respond to strafing and bombing?

I don't think here is a big graphics hit. The objects are very simple and I have created several lods. A group of 6 soldiers is one " vehicle" so what you see in the movie is not that different from 5 trucks driving along.

it looks pretty good, I am amazed. But I wonder on how you can do a damagemodel? just show all lying down when they are finished? Different states of "vehicle damage" by just removing a man per state maybe?

That is very cool. Can they be replaced by a model with all of them crouched on the ground if they get shot at?

Vander, you have been a RoF hero for, what?, 4 years now? I keep looking for reasons to give up the game for good. Often it is something you create that keeps me coming back.

No, we can't infantry in RoF. It's an "Engine Limitation." Sorry Vander! (Just speaking on Han's sake, I know he can't be here. :D )

Brilliant work, Vander! Time after time, you've turned these "limitations" into a working product. Keep up the awesome work!

As with all these mods there are limitations. For now there is no damage model so the soldiers simply disappear after getting destroyed. I could model corpses (as with the horses) but not sure if it's necessary. Also, a group of soldiers will die together (until I find a way of modeling individual damageable parts as with the ships).

My idea is to have these guys run from one line to the next where they will "hide". Trust me, from the cockpit you'll only see a bunch of wriggling creatures and it will be hard to make out any details!

Is that a reference to the somewhat, err, redneck look of the paint job? If so, yes. There is a bumper-sticker on the turtle deck door that says, "American by birth. Southern by the grace of God." The previous owner had a real affection for the Confederacy. Me? Not so much.

I do trust you to do small wonders. But we all KNOW the guys will go crazy to line up and light those fellas up from the air…
I was just thinking a bit of how to make the most of the limitations. But I guess only planes can be made to loose parts, so bodies left behind will propably be out of the question. Which leaves (to my limited knowledge) just few ways, for instance like a "damaged" state of the group either simply less soldiers (3-4?) or some type of "guy carring a wounded on his back"..
but anyways, I am glad you those guys gonna join the club of eycandy

Hi,

Great Mod for the immersion ! Thanks Vander !

For the damaged model maybe you can cheat by increasing the transition effect of the destroy event (on this transition your men fall one after the other with their collision box).

Guys, keep it simple and there will be more of them on the battlefield for ambiance, because that is precisely what they are.

Ask silly things and try to make them into something from a FPS and what do you think will happen?

I disagree here..Vorlander's face couldn't be on them. Those are running soldiers… now if a soldier was reclined in an Obutto drinking whiskey then that is a different kettle of fish :)

In any case, wonderful work Vander! They are looking great!

Really really neat stuff!!
So could this logic be applied to an ai 'plane' for flocks of birds or some deer in a field or to make an air ship …
May be lots of possibilities for even greater immersion of the world below …

Thanks very much looking forward to seeing this develop
Cheers, Ron
