Glad the AI is attacking now but is there a way to see more friendly flights in the air?

Been trying a RE8 career as observer and no matter what aircraft number limits I try the missions are all basically the same (apart from the spy drop - nice touch!): lone Harry 'Rambo' Tate vs the German airforce (8 - 12 scouts with 1-2 flights of 4 recon as extras).

I've tried the simple config limits and fiddling with the advanced limits (e.g halving the max number of enemy vs friendlies 14 to 24 or by decreasing flight opposition chance to 0 and increasing escort chance to 100).

Any ideas?

Yeah, it's a blood bath out there! Don't worry. When I fly the RE8 in PWCG I just put the nose down and run away from the German scouts. They don't catch up.

Still, it seems that PWCG will only generate 2 friendly flights even if the search radius for squads to include is increased.

Go to advanced config and set the balance of friendly and enemy planes as you would like.
Advanced Config->Mission Limits->Max Friendly Planes
Advanced Config->Mission Limits->Max Enemy Planes

Hello Pat,

I'm flying in dec 1916 with Jasta 8 in Chanel Map and surprisely see in a mission that Ypres is missing. Just an emty field with shapes of streets where the city should be. No houses, no ruins. Nothing.

did i do something wrong ?

Still, it seems that PWCG will only generate 2 friendly flights even if the search radius for squads to include is increased.

It generates more than that, but they stop spawning when the plane limit is reached. See previous post about setting max and min friendly and enemy. Increasing max friendly will allow more friendly aircraft and therefore more friendly flights to spawn.

Just be aware that as you increase this number you are telling PWCG "My system can handle it".

No,I probably did. I believe that there are a number of missing ground objects in PWCG.

The fix is to scrap it all, start from scratch, try to make sure that I have everything, then do the whole nation assignment for both static and moving front. Unfortunately a long and sometimes error prone task.

BTW: this has not changed since PWCG 13, so it's an existing issue.

If I could get a guaranteed complete object set I would start in on it. Very happy to take suggestions on how to get there.

Same problem as in last test: SPA 103 (SPAD 13), October 1, 1917, Abeele (West) aerodrome: All kinds of junk on the field right in front of the flight line. I tried it several times and the objects changed but always were there.

Also, on one mission in which I was able to dodge the object and get airborne, the only waypoint that appeared was a final waypoint (little red circles around the dot) right over the airfield. I'm guessing this appeared because it took me so long to get airborne dodging creates and stepladders and water carts. Is there a built in time limit?

Anyway, please get the ground crew to clear off the airfield. ;-)

I have ti say that I am happy with the product. Started a career as a Bavarian observer with the GAS. Flew a couple of missions and even shot down a Nieuport in flames from the back seat. Transitioned to pilot flying DFWs and had some pretty intense missions.

Last one we fly in and bomb our target. A bunch of Nieuports attack. My rear gunner does a fine job of keeping them at bay while I head for home. A couple of them are scoring hits but the DFW is a tough bird and keeps going. Fly low and fast over NML and enemy MGs open up. I want to get to my side to get some help. I make it but the Nieuports keep chasing. Suddenly a flight of FE2bs is right in front of me. I fly through them firing and keep going. They turn and attack. I am flying below tree top level and bullets are spattering the ground around me. I make it to our aerodrome and try to set down the battered DFW on a fast landing. I make it down but turn the plane over. Still, it's survival.

Set up an observer campaign in an F2b (don't have a cow, gavagai; it's an FII :mrgreen: ).

Got a D.Va that was parked about 10 feet off my 6.

Great fun! Thanks for adding it, Pat! :S!:

With PWCG 15.0 I am getting the best fights against the RoF AI that I have ever experienced in 3 years of playing RoF. I have been strafed while rolling on takeoff and I have been strafed while trying to land a damaged plane. I am seeing things I have never seen before.

I just flew a British HD mission against a Gotha daylight raid and it couldn't have been more real. 4 Gothas came in together then 1 broke away towards a different target, which is exactly what they would often do in real life. A 20 Gotha raid would come in in groups of 4 or 5 planes on different paths as they crossed the English coastline. Then they might break up further to hit individual targets.

So I've got 1 Gotha heading directly west and 3 that stayed in formation heading NW. I gave the Attack Nearest Target command and 1 of my Pup wingmen broke off after the lone Gotha while the other 3 stayed with me to attack the other 3 Gothas. The end result was 1 Gotha shot down with two of my wingmen down - one KIA. I coasted into my field with my engine out and landed just short of the field.

Very realistic…I felt like I was back in 1917. I used a historical skin from a training squad which also added to the immersion, as the British threw everything they could get in the air against the Gothas during these daylight summer raids when they were still getting their HD squads organized.

Well done, Pat!

Pat , I have to echo what Bucksnort has already said. I have only had time to fly one mission, but Wow! I never made it to the Mud before my flight was engaged by a Tripe and then an Re8 and 4 N17s and another Re8 and another Tripe. Holy Cow. The only problem I saw was that I was promoted from the rank I already was to the same rank again. Look at all the tabs on the Combat report, there was a ton of stuff going on on the day of this mission. I am including a few pics and PM me if you would like to receive the Track of what you put me through.I think you might get a little enjoyment seeing all the fun I had flying this mission. Thanks for all that you do, it is really really coming together now Mate! Of course the last pic is of me with a big stupid grin on my face while using PWCG. :lol:

I was very pleased too, until.

I got an error "luiscript" infantry cannot load (or something to that effect.)
We had to do a very low infantry contact run with 27RFC Jan 1917.

@Blade_meister
Seen the Feldwebel promoted to Feldwebel thing for over a year now and have yet to figure it out.

@lederhosen
PWCG (I think as of version13) needs the user objects.

Download and install everything under the"Objects" column.

Yes after Pat fixed the AI its realy great to fly (and dangerous). PWCG is a must have but the AI is for me the best improvement. Had a fight against a Fokker DR1 and damn i had no chance, that was the hardest enemy i had til now.

SE5a/74 Sqdn still needs some help.

You did fix the 1st waypoint so it is lower. But now the 2nd waypoint is too high and too close. Where Autopilot or HTpilot, the plane simply can't climb that high and fats. With AI pilot it hangs right at stall speed, wanders all over the sky and gets thoroughly confused. If I am flying it, we get up to the waypoint eventually but the enemy AI has already gone home.

Pls take another look at it. Thx!

I couldn't agree more. It's an absolute blood bath up there now. I was patrolling with one wingman in our trusty Alb DIIts when we were set upon by no less than 3 RE8s followed by 4 Sopwith Pups, all diving down upon us from above. My wingman dove to escape but the pups and RE8s all seemed to latch onto him at the start of the fight. The RE8s would make an attack and then head out for a bit only to come back a few moments later. In the meantime, I had dove down after the pups trying to get them off the tail of my wingmen. I put holes in one and he went off smoking, so I switched targets and tried to latch onto another. The twisting and turning quickly became a full blown furball and soon it felt like the Allied scouts were everywhere. I managed to put holes into another but then the next thing I know, 3 early Spad VIIs come diving down into the fray trying to light up my engine. I managed to knock one of them out with a pilot shot when he pulled up, but the odds against us were still enormous.

After a few more minutes of fighting a highly defensive battle where I took shots of opportunity, I ended up pulling up after a pup and filling him with holes. Misjudged my speed though and was unable to turn away in time. My wing and prop clipped him and I was out of the fight. I managed to land her dead stick safely but what a great fight! This is the best AI combat I've experienced so far. Now they don't seem to get off your tail very easily anymore. Great stuff. Thanks for the 15.0 PWCG and .21 RoF Refined. Excellent work gentlemen!

That is all I am going to quote, I had another excellent evening flying 3 missions. One crazy fight like Hellshade described with a mid after 5 minutes of Furball. Another Scramble mission where we were jumped by 3 F2bs. I was in a DVa and after gaining a little altitude I managed to dispatch two of them and the third broke for home. The third mission, after a crazy Furball I was handed mt death certificate by a Marauding Pack of Tripes and 2 Re8s, one of my guys broke for home after being damaged. Simply incredible guys. Thanks again.
