Hey guys… Looks like SweetFX has gone through some NICE changes :)
http://forums.guru3d...604#post4581604" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://forums.guru3d.../showthread.php … ost4581604

Any change the creators of GUI to bring it update to date with 1.4 at least?
I really LOVE the ability to work with the sliders etc.

So i installed FlightFX, and imported my "old" sweetFX settings…
Everything is fine and nice, except on channel map where the sea rendering is awfull :o
Sea close to horizon is kind of jaggy and looks like with plenty shimmering…
No shimmering at all on landscape though.

Am i alone, or did i missed something?

Hi jason. There up too 1.4
http://forums.guru3d...ad.php?t=376265" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://forums.guru3d...ad.php?t=376265

Version 1.4

Adds the Border shader as a workaround for the bright screenedge forcing certain AA modes can cause
Adds the Cartoon shader that can make the image look more cartoonish
Adds the Advanced CRT shader that can mimic the look of an old arcade CRT display
Adds the Monochrome shader that removes the colors
Adds the FXAA shader as an alternative to SMAA for the few people that still prefer it. (only in DX9 for now though)
Improved the Curves shader so it can now apply contrast to Chroma as well as Luma (as before) or both
Improved the performance of formula 5 in the Curves shader (the simplified Catmull-rom spline)
Improved the Dither shader with the option to use Random Dithering.
Improved the Dither shader so now uses a subpixel dithering pattern. (Both when using Random or Ordered Dithering)
Lowered the default SMAA threshold to 0.10 so fewer aliased lines escape processing.
Fixed a bug where dark areas could on occasion appear when HDR and Lumasharpen where both activated at the same time.
The alpha channel is now cleared before outputting the image to prevent it messing with screenshots converted to png.
The SweetFX settings file now include a description field to help keep track of which version the settings are for.
Improved the Vignette shader to allow you to create oval shaped vignettes.
Curves_formula 2 is now the default Curves formula.
Includes some notes on how you can make custom shaders

In the WIP new version
http://forums.guru3d...4&postcount=528" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://forums.guru3d.../showpost.php?p … tcount=528

Key Features :

Compatible with 64bits games/apps
FXAA integrated without the need of an external DLL
New effects liike film grain and blur/bloom
Effects are separated from SMAA/FXAA to avoid artefacts
No more exotic file locations, everything should be dropped in the executable folder of the game/app
Somewhat better compatibility (more games supported) : DX9 all the games that use swapchain::present now work with SweetFX, Farcry3 now works in DX11
Better performance for DX9 (DX11 performance is the same as MrHaandi's)
Better screenshot naming (app name + date & time as part of the filename)
Key mapping fully integrated in the SweetFX_settings.txt file
Ability to load external d3d9 wrapper (much like ENB proxy)
Ability to completely disable antialiasing and only use SweetFX shaders
Source-code, now we have one : )

Known issues :

The log file can be messy when both DX9 and DX10/11 logging is happening
SMAA may be broken in some Windows XP machines (conan2k)
Crashes in 3DMark11 can be solved by deleting the d3d9.dll (this could apply to other games crashing)
DX10 performance is slightly inferior to MrHaandi's injector (I still don't know why)

Update 2013-05-01 :

DX11 : Speed improvements
DX9 : SMAA pass is also separated from the other effects.
DX9 : Fixed the "weakness" of effects
Should now work equally well with the KB2670838 update installed or not

Update 2013-05-05 :

SMAA implemented last, after all the effects are rendered (should look smoother)

Update 2013-05-27 :

Improved performance for DX11
Added gaussian blur, bloom, (costly) unsharpmasking (DX9 only)
Added film grain effect for DX9 and DX11
Slightly modified ArcadeCRT shader so it scales better

Update 2013-06-01 :

Fixed compatibility issues (Grid 2, Dota2, Black OPS 2…)
Added gaussian blur, bloom, (costly) unsharpmasking for DX10/11 as well

Attached File  Broadside settings final.7z   820bytes   80 downloads

Here are my settings Fifi.
However, from what I can tell, 1.031b broke sweetfx/flight fx.
If I have rof set to anything except "no" anti-aliasing, sweetfx doesnt work.
If I set AA in RoF to "no", then Sweet fx works.

very odd.

Me too - no apparent problem with my SweetFX and RoF 1.031b, but I am still using version SweetFX 1.3 (I had some problems getting 1.4 to work when it first came out, and even when I got it working didn't really see any noticeable difference, so I went back to 1.3)

Thanks Broadside :S!:
My main problem is on Channel map…sea is awfull…kind of pixellised while landscape looks perfect…but even without FlightFX, sea is far from perfect, at certain angles. Maybe it's ROF rendering, i don't know because never tried it at release :?

Bolotaur's WIP version ( http://forums.guru3d...4&postcount=528" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://forums.guru3d.../showpost.php?p … tcount=528 ) looks quite interesting, as it has 64bit support (not for RoF, but useful for other games), integrated FXAA in the same dll and (if it works as advertised), the dx dlls can be put in the same folder with the game executable, not matter what. Please bump this thread if a stable version is released.

Hey, Panther, do you happen to have a link to the old 1.3 version? I just looked and I'm still at 1.0 and would like to try out 1.3 to see if there's any difference for me. Thanks!

Here is the SweetFX version 1.3 "mod" package I use (ready to activate via JSGME). It has my current settings file, which you may want to replace with your own (many people find my settings too dark on menus and some cockpit instruments, and I can certainly see why, but I like them):

Thanks! I just realized that I'm only using FlightFX and have never actually installed the original SweetFX! Not sure this will now work for me without mucking up a bunch of stuff trying to get it going… Maybe I'll see what files I need and just try to copy them over. Thanks again for sharing, mate. :S!:

I was not able to make SweetFX v1.4 work with FlightFX btw. But having tried FlightFX with v1.3 I realized I did not need anything extra (in this case FlightFX) running in the background. SweetFX setup file is easy to handle. FlightFX is good for fine tuning then disabling it before flying and using SweetFX instead.

Thanks

No screen/videos, but can tell you installing FlightFX + sweetFX profile, ROF never looks so nice!
Mainly for landscape scenery rendering. Ground looks much more detailed from high and low.
REALLY worth a try!

Knowing my technical abilities in the area of graphics and not able to tell the difference between anti-alaising and FXAA I feel a headache coming on . Wish me luck

Ya I popped over to the BoS sight and noticed that Jason has a post labeled "watch this space…" wonder if the server problem is related somehow to the role out of early access for Battle of Stalingrad considering nobody at 777 has said anything about the server being down and usually they are quick to ease the pain of us peons. This is just speculation of course.

I'm having a problem with FlightFX on my Win 8.1 laptop. There is some conflict with Settings.exe if SweetFX is enabled.

If I click the enable SweetFX box in FlightFX and then launch the game normally through Settings.exe, the game hangs in the settings window.

If I launch Settings.exe first and then enable SweetFX, everything works as normal. Which is OK I guess if you don't mind enabling SweetFX before each ROF session and then disabling it each time when you have finished.

But I want to just start the game and have everything running. So my work around is to launch ROF directly using ROF.exe. Then it doesn't matter if SweetFX is enabled or not.

Revisiting ROF again after some time away. Can anyone tell me if FLightFX/SweetFX still work ok with ROf as mine doesn't seem to be?

Or is the situation similar now to that in BOS - which only works when in-game AA is OFF?

Many thanks.

Sorry - I stopped using SweetFX some time ago, and haven't played around with it lately.  There's some good discussion about Reshade/SweetFX going on over on the BoS forums, if you want to take a look:

S! Lothar29 - good to see you over here too !

Well, I had pretty much stopped using SweetFX before this happened, so I wasn't following the discussion that closely, but I remember something fairly recently about one of the RoF updates having changed something about the way SweetFX worked (or didn't work) with RoF (some sort of conflict maybe where it wouldn't work if you used the in-game AA setting or something).  Unfortunately, I don't remember how that played out in the end, or whether it's still broken or working again.

Maybe I'll try re-installing my old SweetFX mod and see what happens.

Exactly what problems are you having with it?

Hi Panthercules

Low frames, especially in the channel map, and unbearable brightness

i do not use FlightFX/SweetFx, the frames are kept constantly 60FPS.

Thx

My biggest reason for using Flight FX is being able to spot other aircraft, without I just cannot find targets.

Hi all. Yesterday I did a  new round of tweaking my Reshade settings for RoF. After using GFx for a while to enhance ambient light, I ended up choosing a more conservative Reshade setting.

You can try it here. Just expand into your Rise of Flight\bin_game\release folder.

My card is a GFX770 4GB.

Thanks for sharing that.  I loaded it up and tried it out - looks pretty interesting, and seemed to work just fine with my current RoF settings (which my old SweetFX mods did not - with them loaded up RoF crashed upon starting - I suspect my settings files have gotten corrupted again somehow, or else the old versions of SweetFX I was using in those mods are no longer compatible or something).

I'm not sure if I like the Reshade settings/results better than stock or not, but at least they work and if I can figure out how to tweak some of the settings I might play around with them a bit more.

And I did not see any noticeable FPS drop between stock and your Reshade settings (over Dover on the Channel map) - the Channel Map itself drops my FPS a bit in both stock and Reshade tests (compared to the West front map), but by essentially the same amount.

Hi Panthercules,

I tried to do a "light" version of SweetFX effects. Combining a lot of effects can give better results sometimes, but they also bring less FPS to the table. Keep in mind I'm not using SMAA because I use supersampling on RoF config, but you can activate it if you're not.

I was also using an interesting setting for weeks, called "ambient light". It is found on GemFX.cfg file, and after being properly adjusted, added very nice effects based on the direction you look inside the game (more or less light, etc). The result is very impressive, but I ended up ditching it because in some aspects (like horizon line where ocean meets sky, for instance) the results were too brigth to my taste sometimes. The attached files on my first post have them already deactivated, but I'm mentioning here just in case you wanna take a look.

Overall, when I create settings I try to get rid of what I call of "cartoon effect" in game. It is not easy to do that, and to be honest, I've never found a 100% setting - when color is right, light isn't and vice versa. So, I tried to get a balance between them using Reshade (in fact, using SweetFX 2.0, since I'm not using the other resources Reshade has to offer at the moment).

Of course the results will always depend on your monitor and room illumination, etc, so by all means, tweak them - I'm sure you wont regret.

Well, back in the day (when I was first messing around with SweetFX, back around version 1.3) I knew how to change the config settings in some text file and then test them easily in game.  I had already figured out my optimal settings (and gotten a bit tired of all the testing of them) by the time FlightFX came along, so I never used it or learned how its setting/GUI worked.  I peeked around (very briefly) inside the folders in your Reshade D/L package last night, but couldn't find anything I remembered/recognized as far as how to tweak the settings, so I'll have to do some research (or have some helpful soul give me a pointer) to figure out how one alters the settings with this particular Reshade thingy before I can play around with it some more.

And yeah, I remember having to do an awful lot of tweaking to try to get the right balance between color, light, shadow (especially cloud effects), etc. with my old SweetFX efforts - it wasn't easy and I wound up with something that, while I liked it pretty well, was not to many people's liking (it did make the menu screens and cockpit a bit darker than optimal, as I recall).

Well, although there is an interface for SweetFX 2.0 somewhere, I've never used any GUI. I really prefer to alter files directly (they are text, after all).

So, in order to check the SweetFX settings, all that you have to do is open the sweetfx.cfg inside Reshade folder and read along.

You'll notice that the file's structure has changed and is now very user friendly. Alter whatever you want to, and test (same magic key - Scroll Lock - to engage/disengage effects while in game).

Cheers
