The new physics also apply to ballons, before you could do this funny bounce, where the ballon (appart from the gondola part) almost behave realistically like a floating object. Now thex do not bounce, but you instead pop. But you can use the floats of the W12 to pop ballons without any damage to your plane, by gliding over them. I was trying to do 3-4 in a row, but it gets rather boring quick.

I have an idea. Land atop the cliffs of dover, and see how slowly one can roll off the edge and still pull up before hitting the bottom. ;)

since the cliffs are also added 3d objects they appear to be of the same physics as buildings, piers etc. I was simply not able to land or taxi on them, near dover I simply stuck in the air.

Ja, I gave it a try later in the day, was rather disappointing that it couldn't be done.

^^after this nice farm idea I started trials if the castle can somehow be landed. I am not quite there, yet, but I am sure someone can do it. Gentlemen, your contributions please!

Fun thread!

I can land in the hangar with the dock and takeoff out of it - I guess I better make the video! :-D

another nice variant of mountain tasks is turning around on slopes, like those glacier-flyers do…

News UPDATE:

LANDING ON OTHER PLANES IS MORE OR LESS POSSIBLE:

also: the ballon physics are only partially changed, non winched down MP ballons still retain a buoyancy model, albeit the quick mission ones explode upon contact

Sorry guys, but this has been done for a while…

This was first attempted and successfully completed during the beta testing before the Brandenburg was released:

oh, nice, did not notice that. Did you manage to land with the W12 on top? Have you got any tracks and could make a vid? I´d love to see that!

If I did, it would have been deleted with the beta version. Sorry.

I landed on top for about ten seconds and took off again, neither of us were hurt.

Ok, I gave it a test. The W12 is definatly a bit easier to park on larger planes, albeit the slow speed makes it difficult on the felix. However, it does slide off from the top wings once you throttle back or switch the engine off, so again the only rodeo-position again is the tail. I tried to shoot one engine of the HP out with flares, but that did not work well:

Bah, I won't hear a word of that Marco! My incompetency is at least equal to yours! Besides, you had the hard job of landing the scout. I just had to keep the bomber straight and level.

This is Doc on top of the hangar at Middlekirke west of Ostende( not sure the name on the Channel Map ). He did a pancake with a Brandenburg W.12, flipping over and ending belly-up, slowly sinking into the canvas…;)

Then he goes out to sea and finds an enemy ship to land on…He fire flares for me to find him, then as it's getting dark on Syndicate server, he lights up the back end for me with his rear gun to drop bombs on in my Halberstadt CL.II.

I have no idea how he ended right-side-up and sideways on the stern. I tried to miss him, honest. So much so that I ran out of 12.5kg bombs and couldn't but get the ship burning…oh well. At least we got pics!

I wish objects did not have increased friction so I could still land on docks……

I love the train landings though. Being a steam locomotive enthusiast I really hand it to whoever modelled that 0-8-0 with a correctly moving Walschaerts valvegear. I would love to see some more classes of steam locomotive available to put in trains, like an S 3/6 for german maps and something GWR for british maps…. etc etc.

Are there plans to make an airship? It would look and work great on RoF physics models and we could make some great landings on one of those.

as you can imagine, airships have been a hot topic for ages, there are litterally hundreds of threads about those… but there wont be some in near future, thats what the developers said.

But I think you have a point there, meanwhile I was thinking we could revisit the ballon physics. Maybe a completly empty N11 or dh2 can be made to stay on one. Since the introduction of whinched down balloons, however there are different sets of phyiscs properties. Some balloons (the non whinched down ones let you slide and bump, while the others explode at the slightest touch. maybe a bit more experimentation needs to be done.

here is an old test vid:

just some aplication of the buttered side of toast theory to the dolphin. flipping it at enough hight for half a revolution makes it land pretty safe…

it´s probably because you did not try it deadstick. Don´t worry though, the boats are also excellent alternatives on the lake:
