WW1EAF_Paf,
As I've posted in another topic (http://riseofflight....=460497#p460497" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">viewtopic.php?p=460497#p460497) - I can actually help with the info on making actual roads or levelling the terrain, but it is just very impractical to do so for a single village.

Thats some great progress Ankor! Maybe something for future (combined projects/ map update…. :)). As you say, for single village not practical, but great possibilities. Good work!

Help!

I need some help in the 3D department ;)
I only own Wings3D and can build objects in the .obj format.
But I need someone to work with who owns 3dsMax8 and is willing to help importing the objects into the game. If you can and want to help in this project, please PM me or answer directly to this post. Thanks.

Paf, Wings 3d is an excellent tool. Just export your stuff through the .3ds file once you will have your model and uv map ready. Max or older Gmax import those files flawless (just do not mark "convert units" during the import) and you only need to create a new material and attach the texture.
I also work in Wings, heck, the Oeffag D.III for the FSX was modelled in Wings, then finished in Gmax.

Good luck, Gents!

Yes Lucas I like Wings myself too. And that was my plan, to build the model in Wings+UVMap. But get the ROF-Materials/Plugin working I still need someone with Max8 I fear.

Hi Paf, Importing .obj and exporting again to (.MGM) is really simple, but first you need to set everything up correctly which can take some time and will cost a couple of iterations to get it right… Anyone in possession of 3dsmax 8 with basic skills should be able to help you on this.
I'm available to give you some hints & tips.

First tip (this comes straight from Han): try to put all your models on one bitmap. So better to have one 1024x1024 or even 2048x2048 with everything from your project in it than multiple 256x256 or 512x512.

Thanks Lucas & Vander!

Good tip Vander. I will have some time in the next weeks I can put into 3d stuff. Will come back to you to get some more tips hehe ;)

So far, most is done that can be done with the already available objects ingame. Still some finetuning of the forrest, which is a pain :)

Bonjour Roucourt

Thank you guys,

In the last days I tried to get the hang of 3dMax. Quite different to Wings3D, but I am getting there. All WIP ofcourse & I have no idea if these will work in game as planned though

Very nicely done. It will be great to get some variation in here.

Don't forget to add it to the list List of user made ROF static objects

Thanks redcoat,
some weeks now without much progress due to work.
Starting to improve the tenthangar-textures. Alot is virgin territory here, but I hope its going to the right direction.

Wow nice work :S!:
It would be cool if there would be a way to make same cover for the static planes on airfields.

Awesome! Hope Jason adds this to the base game and not as a 3rd party. RoF really needs this type of ground details.

Kudos!

Thank you mates.

LordNeuro, I fear I don't understand what your are meaning with cover. These tents were used as Hangars (cover) for the planes. The ingame ones are different in style and colour to the tents used by the germans in Roucourt, Toulis etc, as you can see on photos.

Womenfly, I fear I am far away from the optimized work the ROF-team is doing. Many things I am doing the first time in my life (like modelling in Max3ds) Yet, I don't know how these will be(have) in game. My aim is to get them working for my Roucourt-Mod, everything else is secondary at the moment :)

LordNeuro,
now I know what you mean, thanks. I never seen such thing for WW1 planes though.

I am working right now to get my Tent into the game and build up the airfield-layout of Roucourt. Sadly my model lost something between Max13->Max8->ROF  It all starts when importing into Max8 I am getting errormessages… Try to find out whats going on. So, ingame no texture is showing up. Also I saw I have to do abit 3d rework.
But still, I wanted to try what it looks like to have the layout for the tents in game. This is how I'll most likely put up the tents. A big Thank You to Jim Miller (JFM) who helped me alot with this.

I am quite happy to see them ingame now. But also discovered a few little probs I have to solve. Also the collisionmodel is yet not working correctly.

Today only small patrol and a few hangars stay closed.

Thank you, painting the texture took along time :? But now I am mostly satisfied. I have some FPS loss now and will also make a low-res version available.

Workshop with Vanders airfieldobjects as interiour.
Image
Problem with this one is, when its put on uneven ground. The ground will brake the basement (woodplanks) and it looks odd. Making the basement thicker looks odd again when one part is high out of the ground. So its use for now is abit limited.

Still alot to do with Roucourt. For example winter & autumn version 8-)
After that an airfield where I can make use of my current work ia more possible than Boistrancourt. Toulis for example.

Maybe add a danngling patch of dirt underneath it that clips through the ground whenever it's not needed, but partly shows when the ground is uneven?

Just fantastic work. Those screenshots look so natural!
I think it's also great as all of those element could be reused for future airfields! Thanks!
