Well, the Foster Mount exists on the S.E.5a already and will be used with a lot of the new mods, so it's not like it's something completely new.

Only on the RE8 I believe.

I am very impressed by the ROF team and their efforts. I promised that I would continue my financial support, when the team addressed my concerns. While I have not seen the flight model fixes, I consider the value adding labor of the team, demonstrated in the upcoming patch, to be substantial, material and in keeping with the standards I expect from Bethesda, EA or any company, big or small. So, in good faith, I will presume that these efforts will continue and I will commit to buying future add-ons, maps and related ROF or 777 Studios products. :S!: MJ

p.s. Anyway, I have been covertly playing ROF, while I was, "Away," from ROF, under the nick, Gooder, so I might as well play out in the open.

lol.. why would you need to be 'covert'.. it's not like you would be shot at dawn or anything! :o

Yes, very true Trooper! Tell me, what is your favorite announced improvement? I am greatly impressed by the attention to late war improvements to the Vickers mgs! I used to read about this improvement, on the Aerodrome forum and long for it, on my 180 SPAD VII and my SPAD XIII. I do not feel so badly, as a SPAD VII specialist, well, I actually feel kind of blessed, knowing the potential of my new single Vickers! The Lewis and the rockets will no doubt prove wonderful balloon busting tools, but my single Vickers will be my main and only Albatros hunting weapon! ;) Well, in any event, I must go and get the remainder of the weapons mods and other things, some time soon, so as to thank the team for the new Vickers and other things! :D :S!: MJ

p.s. I just realized that the 180 SPAD VII Vickers might not get the rate of fire boost. I hope it does, but maybe not. In that case, the number XIII is lucky enough! ;)

A great question and I ask the same thing about the late war 180 hp SPAD 7 vs the 180 hp SPAD VII, when first introduced. It would make some sense that late war SPAD VIIs, SPAD XIIIs, SE5as, etc, would have the improvement, but what about an early 180 hp SPAD VII or the 150 HP SPAD VII, for instance? I should think not. I don't know how the team is implementing it, but it would be cool if the game knew the date the action was taking place and adjusted the Vickers and Spandau, etc, to reflect the state of the weapon, as of that date. I don't know if that is possible or implemented, though. :S!: MJ

Those Lewis' on the Nieuports don't look like they can elevate. Is that correct?

Yes, they can elevate.

If I recall correctly, the Spad XIII cockpit required a lot of modification in order to be able to fix the guns. So, they were originally not going to supply this weapon's mod. However, they've managed to do it!

The Spad 13 mod was a late addition, because no photos have been found showing what the installation actually looked like. Since the biggest external difference between a standard Vickers and the balloon gun is the extension at the breech end, I noted to Han that what was likely the case was that a cutout was made in the gun mounting to allow the needed clearance for those breech extensions. Han agreed, and so now we have one more plane with a weapon mod. :)

I can certainly see the balance tipping in real weird and undesired ways here, from the looks of Jason's video it's incredibly quick to shoot planes down with this new rate of fire for certain planes with these super quick vickers. If the SE5a's Vickers didn't have this that's another reason to use the Spad instead of the SE5a, as if there weren't enough reason already what with the significantly better climb rate and speed of the Spad.

Very interesting stuff though, I can't wait to play around with all this stuff next week(HOPEFULLY!)

Oh, wait a moment, the SPAD XIII gun mod is the balloon gun?! I just thought that they boosted the potential rpm of the twin Vickers! If the SPAD XIII has the balloon guns…holy cow! :o :S!: MJ That is f*&%ing awesome!!!

LukeFF,
If you are permitted to discuss this matter freely, does the 180 SPAD VII get the higher potential rate of fire Vickers; the Mk.I 7,69mm model? :S!: MJ

:x RoF Just keeps getting better and better..

I got into Rof this past Christmas, and after the initial #$%^&* learning curve I have un-installed all other flying games…

RoF is a definite long-term "flying-for-fun" investment.

I ain't buying a single one of these.

Where's the 3-gunned Eindecker E.IV that there's historical pictures of? Or a two-gunned E.III?

I have since edited the rest of my rant which will now be sent to Jason.

I think we all have things we want (or expect, for some reason) but I don't think anyone will be all that upset when it comes time to try these puppies out, I mean, sure, give it a week and we will have calls for servers to ban everything but that is not unusual.

The screenshots and the interview are starting to reveal just how special this update is gonna be, this update looks like it is going to really alter the way we play ROF.

I am not worried if something was common or just a prototype, this is a sim that covers WWI air combat in general and not just a particular pilot/squadron or date, this means that we can fly all the prototypes we want unless the mission does not allow it.

Keep up the good work 777, I suspect that I will be having a good time next Friday (I hope :D)

The Fokker EIV is not a 'weapon mod', its a completely different plane with, amongst others, a completely different engine.

it started out with three guns and Immelmann flew it like that, however the performance penalty was considered too big and the armament was reduced to two guns.

Thats still the EIV, I dont recall reading about the EIII ever flying with two guns?

It's a separate plane from the E.III, that's why you don't see it.

The twin Lewis variant was used by the French navy.

There's a photo in the Nieuport 17 Windsock guide showing a twin-Lewis (plus 1 Vickers) plane from Escadrille N68.

I have to say my favourite bit of the update (which we know about) has nothing to do with weapons.. it's the fact that finaly we are getting an improvement to the camel with the improved cut out in the top wing panel.. This was modified by many pilots in the field, and even got official clearance from the RFC that this change be applied, as the existing cut out restricted the pilots vision.
The other part of the update that caught my attention is the Leprieur rockets (finaly)..
I think these will be a real challenge to use effectively. I'm looking forward to the practice sessions I'm going to need to even hit a balloon with them!

Is the S.E.5a's Lewis gun being modded?
An S.E.5a package is not included among the weapons mods, and I've seen no pictures of the S.E.5a's Lewis gun angled upward on its' mounting; very disappointing, if this mod is not included … this is the aircraft on which most everyone has wanted a moveable Lewis gun since RoF's initial launch.
Or is the S.E.5a Lewis mod a given? If not, when will it be modded?

Yep, I have the 1970's big hair of font thing, going on up there. =) Oh, the cut out is a great detail! Splash made a series of versions of Barker's Sopwith Camel B6313, a while back. At some point, Barker had B6313 receive a wider cut out modification. After buying the Camel cut out add-on, Camel buffs can use the appropriate Splash skin and add the cut out mod, for a more authentic looking B6313. =) Now, as far as the rockets, I am just starting to learn how to lead my targets, with the Vickers, after three years, so rockets may take my Signs alien like intellect a while to grasp. =) (My cousin is learning how to shoot an AR 15 and an AK 47, at 7 years of age, so there is hope that, in a few years, my family will start producing better ROF marksmen.) :S!: MJ

Now, I must practice door knobs…left then right, right, right, right, push…no?…hmm…
