From Osprey’s "Plane Spotter’s Guide” by Tony Holmes…

This aircraft was assigned to United States Air Service ace Capt Bill Thaw on 27 February 1918, the pilot claiming two scouts and a balloon destroyed in S5301 between 27 March and 20 April. It was decorated with the famous Lafayette Sioux head insignia that adorned all 103rd Aero Squadron aircraft, as well as Thaw's "T" monogram. Also flown by Thaw's squadron mates 1Lts Hobart Baker and Drummond Cannon, S5301 was retired by the unit on 16 June 1918.

Used MAC’s 1/72 scale SPAD VII C.1 “US Volunteers” model kit as another reference, as well as Pheon Models’ decals of the Lafayette Escadrille, SPA124 and the 103rd Aero Squadron which show the yellow number on the top wing of 103rd aircraft.

First skin submission; hopefully everything looks good and files are in the right place!

EDIT: Final version uploaded. Saturation and hues adjusted to be more consistent with the Rise of Flight palette. “Capt” changed to “Maj” after further research on William Thaw II. From The American Volunteers in the French Air Service in World War One by Dennis Gordon, "Prior to his brother's death, on 26 January 1918, William Thaw had left the French Air Service to accept a commission as Major in the U.S. Air Service."

Very nice!
I noticed one thing though:

The roundel colors are very, very saturated compared to the washed-out look of the game, therefore they stand out too much. If you could adjust that the skin would look spot on!

It is so strange that there are not that many Lafayette and US skins made??

Yep I’m an 2009 Rof pre-order buyer and one of the few that did buy the Sikorsky game.

Thanks for the tip; it’s great to get your feedback! I’m adjusting it as we speak and will re-upload with new screenshots shortly. I will consider it my “final” version, since I don’t really see much else to do.

If you tune down the roundels, make sure the sides marks and tail 3 colors are accordingly :)

Not to be picking nits but Thaw was commissioned as a major when he switched to the USAS from the French Air Service and given command of the 103rd in January 1918. He ended the war as a group commander and a lieutenant colonel.

So your title should be Major Thaw…;)

Very nice. Just needs to have your new markings desaturated.

BTW don't mind Tom he was a newspaperman for 100 years and never made a mistake.

Interesting. My references have him as a Captain in February, and a Major in March-April.

I have. The new roundels and tail colors are the hues and saturation from the original template, with the exception of the blue (simply made darker). I should mention that my screenshots have been made with in-game saturation at 1.0.

Hmm. I wonder if the PSD alpha layer did not save to the DDS properly?

Here is the default 103rd Aero skin, as supplied by the Official Skin Pack.

And here is my skin. Again, I run Rise of Flight with “saturation = 1.0” in startup.cfg.
