Hi there,
I`ve heared bout that and I think the idea is great:
To make a "non-war" - map or mode in RoF.
For example with the Wright Flyer; the Etrich Taube; Bleriot and much more-

What do you think about this? Is it a good idea? And what planes, missions,
maps or features would you like to have in there?

So why is it called Rise of Flight? I think RoF should go
the way of "non-war"-modes too.

Just feel free to discuss bout this topic :)

Greetings,
Callahan

A non-war scarred ROF map?

Its a good Idea, but I think its too expensive
and I think most of the Players would not agree wit that :?

There already are a few maps without any trenches on them. Feel free to start a server and set limit for ammo to empty….

Outside of WW 1 theatres, I would guess that the next big area of development could be developing new maps, campaigns, and what not, connected to the Russian Civil War, the Polish Russian war or later conflicts, like the Chaco War, etc. Well, probably not any of those choices, but I can dream. :S!: MJ

Nice to hear that some of you like that idea! :)
But have you got any ideas for planes or maps?
Perhaps it will be only in missions. (for example
the wright flyer)
But I hope in Rise of Flight will be a mode
for "peacefull"-flying- (for example the map
of Kitty Hawk. Or the Channel for Bleriot.)
Or you can select that things for yourself.
That means you select a map:
For example the Channel Map (that on that will come soon)
than you select the mode (peacefull or war)- That selects the Year and the groundfire-
(War: 1918 and peacefull: 1909)
And then the planes you can use for this mode you have selected-
———————————————————————————————-
Discuss bout that!

Here are some ideas for the "peacefull"-mode:

Planes:
-Wright Flyer
-Bleriot XI
-Dufaux 3
-Dufaux 4
-Vickers Vimy
-Aerodrome (flyable)
-Spirit of St.Louis
-Etrich Taube (the beginnings)
-"Libelle" or "Dragonfly"
-Levasseur
-Caudron G-III
-Farman Longhorn (MF 7)

——————————
Maps:
-Channel (already planed)
-Kitty Hawk
-N-W Ireland (where the Vimy landet)

——————————
Its not much but perhaps it will grow? ;)

Unfortunately I have to agree with Luke, whilst it may seem cool to have some of those planes it will get boring very fast, especially if your range is less than that of a 747's wing…

I'm not surprised at the mixed response. I would think that MFS-style sim purists would love it but the combat guys need to kill things. No doubt market forces will decide. Who knows?

I'm for it.

It's called Rise of Flight because they had to ditch the original name, Knights of the Sky. I'm not really sure if the Russian title really translates to "Rise of Flight" in English anyways. But I digress. The title in English at least is not refering to the first use of powered aircraft. It refers to the first use of powered aircraft in a war.

The Russian title for the game translates more or less as "War in the Heavens - 1917."

Does anyone else find it funny that Dirty Harry is advocating a "Peace" map?

I'm not entirely opposed. This sim is well worth it just for the flight alone.

I've been pushing for years to get a "Aerial Firefighting Sim". Set it in the '60s with a B-26 or Catalina. Modern planes would be good too. Dynamic weather and fire effects. But I figure most would consider this boring. It would never get produced.

Yeah I thought it was something like that. That title (while it doesn't sound smooth in English) is more appropriate for the game. Maybe Rise of Flight is a misnomer. :o :P

A pre-war addon seems really nice to me too!
Actually I write a lot of military family storylines for fun and they almost all start in WWI, I often write how my characters had their flying licence and such but that would be nice to fly it for real, just like when my WWII characters fly in the piper cub in 1930 ^^ (Writing stories is what I suggest to everyone, make things much more interesting)

I'd pay for a non-war RoF addon, just like I paid for Flight Simulator X, some may think it's boring but unless you warp in flights (Which after reflection wouldn't impress me much) most of your career flights are actually peaceful flights, or am I the only one flying for an hour in career mode here?

IMHO, this would be great for brining new people into the sim. If people expect to dogfight - they'll likely get frustrated quickly. However, if flying is the only challenge - then they'll get into sims.

Lots of fun Mission types:
- Giving rides
- Air mail
- Aerial observation/cartography
- Chasing down a convict in an escaped car
- Attempted speed/distance records
- Attempted altitude records
- Cross channel records

we could simply organize a viritual airshow, we just need 3-4 for groups for displayteams

I still have my copy of the Wright Flyer Flight Sim program I bought at Kitty Hawk a few years ago:

Image

Very cool, but after the challenge of trying to stay aloft more than 10 seconds wore off I put it aside and haven't played it again in a long time. Would make for some good "quick mission builder" sessions, but I'm not sure it would have enough mass appeal. Since we're going to have a Channel map later this year, maybe it would be a lark for the devs to offer a pre-order Bleriot just to "test the waters", so to speak :)

well, thanks for that
and I think that ROF is known enough that peaople buy peaceful maps and planes,
but only one "peace-plane"… hm… okay, will be nice to see how it works :)

Yes, things like this after the Channel map would be possible:

But honestly I wouldn't want it to take dev time away from the main simulation as there is still so much more meat to add.

Well, I hope that this would be another future of ROF:
races… (for example)

and Avimimus is right too:

It would be interesting to fly some unarmed planes in a future, some not military ones.Of course,if they wouldn't sell, they should come free. And more, they could be made by the still small but very promising modders community!

Right, so where is the funding for all these aircraft going to come from if they're given away for free? Someone has to implement them into the game engine, you know.
