Does anyone know how I can edit a large batch of sound files? I am trying to edit the volumes on a huge batch of .wav files, so opening them individually and changing each of their volumes by hand is kind of out of the question.

Sure. GoldWave is one of my favorites for low-overhead editing and batch processing.
