Here's one I did at the request of WomenFly2 - I figured I might as well put up a poll so she and others who like it can use it in Mods Off mode.

This aircraft, Serial No. 586/17, was flown by Ltn. Ernst Udet while serving with Jasta 4 in June 1918 at Beugneux-Cramaille airfield. As depicted by Dan-San Abbott, it had a red nose, and was marked with red and blue stripes on the top wing, fuselage and tail. However, the weight of authority/opinion of other researchers appears to indicate that this was the aircraft formerly flown by Ltn. Kirschstein and was most probably still marked in black-and-white instead of red-and-blue as theorized by DSA. As he did with his other aircraft, Udet also painted "LO" on the fuselage sides in honor of his girlfriend. Udet was credited with 38 victories while serving with Jasta 4, from 31 May 1918 until the end of the war, including 12 in June, but it is not clear how many of those were scored while flying this aircraft. He survived the war with a total of 62 victories.

I see that the inflamatory /17 has made it into RoF now as well.

While well researched during 1982 when there was little information about the aircraft and (most importantly regarding the colouring)it's previous use available, later information has prooven this interpretation completely wrong in my opinion.

As much as I respect DSA for all the work he did, there's a few points especially when basing results on streaking and a pilot's "character" where modern means of interpreting b/w photgraphy are rendering old conclusions erroneous.

Having said that, I voted yes out of respect for DSA, however the historical correctnes of this paintscheme is to be taken with a huge grain of salt.

Is it for Historical mode? Then..

NO! Please..

This is just a pure guess by Dan San Abbott and is not supported by any historican i know,
and if you ask me..looking at the photos of Udet´s Dr.1 i highly doubt Abbott´s colors
and also it would make not much sence to take over the black/white striped Dr.1 of Ltn. Kirschstein and repaint every single black stripe into a red color and white into a baby blue.- Black color beneath the red color would also make it much darker than Abbott suggests it..

Ditto. Gotta vote NO.

With all due respect (whatever that means) to the late Dan-San and the current Panther, I don't believe this is an historically accurate skin. I've never seen it portrayed anywhere else and with a pilot as famous as Udet, his planes were quite well documented.

If you had two sources that agreed, I would believe it but not a single source.

I too, among many, never believed this one by DSA. Sorry, it's a "no" from me although you did a nice job on it Panther.

I'd forgotten about the controversy surrounding this one, and was relying on Dan-San Abbott's reputation and information about it to post it as an historical skin. However, after doing some more checking I agree that it just seems like this is one instance (one of the rare ones) where DSA just seems to have gotten a bit carried away with his tonal analysis approach.

I think this one looks cool and ought to be in the game for those who subscribe to DSA's interpretation (or just like it because it looks cool), but I've moved it into the "fictional" category because it just doesn't seem to me that there's enough likelihood that this one really was repainted into these colors as DSA depicted them for me to put it forward as an historical one.

The .txt file has been updated accordingly in the new download link in the first post.

Thanks for the input.
