Only one problem, your skull is exactly the same of the 3rd SS division in WW2, known as the SS totenkopf, its historically inaccurate and second i doubt that any one want that kind of skull on his plane.

They are many other skull and bones used in aviation, in France with Nungesser, even in the Russian front on exported model of Nieuport, why choosing the shape of a Nazi one from a WW2 SS infantry sign ?

Because I don't know any better, I am not as knowledgable about the history of paintjobs as you are. Thanks for enlightening me.

Now that I know I will be looking specifically for WW1 skulls. Any hints on websites that have accurate skulls?

I only know those tree examples, the skull and bones were not a common use for plane insignia in WWI

here are somme examples, but few for WWI planes.

I posted this over at screenshot forum….

Thanks guys!
I figured we over did the Albatros because it was all we had.
When I first got the Pfalz, all I could think of was Stockel and the Blue Max.
The yellow one was a test and I didn't figure on keeping it but looks pretty cool. I call it the Bee or Hornet cause it looks like one. LOL!
They're not the best if anyone one wants to try em you can PM me with your email addy. I have no site to upload anything for these. I do have upload accounts for flightsim, avsim, and simouthouse but I don't think there is really a place to fit them in there.
Guys like Yoflo and Mr Fox can take them and make em better or anyone for that matter.

Yes, because, you know, skulls are cool and all…..so they're awesome to have on your bigass truck so it's the last thing those little schoolchildren see when yo run them over.

Sorry, couldn't hold myself.

Chaos,

http://narod.ru/disk...trosd5.rar.html">http://narod.ru/disk...trosd5.rar.html

This is a file posted by DiFiS which has two DVa skins in it, the original and a new one.

There is no template so you have to work with the existing skins, and the files are dds files so you need the plugin for photoshop. I believe the files are dxt5 with an 8 bit alpha but am not 100% certain yet (file size is consistent on new saves though so maybe.)

You need to create a new folder to use these skins: …/data/graphics/skins(new)/albatrosd5a(new).
I also put a WIP folder there to house my working copy so I don't accidentally mess up my progress.

Good luck and hope to see your new skins… mine are on there way ;)

Hi,

Are there any templates for the other planes available?

What you can do is open any skin via gt extractor and then just use the alpha channel as your base

GT extractor? I think I am missing something. Is there any forum topic that explains how to get the skins and where to find them and where to save them? Thanks.

I posted this here. http://riseofflight....php?f=63&t=3268">viewtopic.php?f=63&t=3268 Should help.

Go to C:\Program Files\Rise of Flight\data.
Find graphics2.gtp
Try to open it. It will say windows can not open this file.
You want the option select a program from a list.
Hit ok.
In your list browse for were ever you put your gtp. exe.
Hightlight it and hit ok.
A dos window will come up showing progress.
When done go to. C:\Program Files\Rise of Flight\data and look for a new folder that says (null).
All the goods are in there.

Ok, I have installed the .dds extension and unpacked the files. CS 4 64 bit does not want to open the file giving me a message: … not the right kind of document. I checked the dds.8bi file is in the following directory: Adobe Photoshop CS4\Plug-ins\File Formats. What am I doing wrong?

Any easy way of creating an alpha for a specific skin? I am not sure how its done. Here is a skin I have been working on, but it has no alpha yet. Can I use the existing alpha from the default skin or do I need to alter it? Thanks in advance.

I would be inclined to use the alpha from the skin you're using as your template, to be honest. It's a pretty consistent finish and matches the strut/fabric structure of the aircraft model very well. If you generate an alpha channel from your own image, some of that detail will almost certainly be lost. The result of that would be uneven patches/shading in the way the model handles lighting etc.

Try useing the default alpha. You have no crosses on your plane so take the default alfa and clone out or paint out the crosses so you have a plane wing, rudder and fuse. Test that out and it will get you close.
All my paints started out with a default one and then I just fine tune it. Trial and error.

Thank you! :)

If you use the Photoshop Plugin so just keep the standard settings.

Finally it should be:
DXT5 ARGB 8 bpp | interpolated alpha
4 samples and highest compression

S! Daniel,

Sure I remember the well known scheme of the 'Chipmunks' squadron :D
Perhaps I will focus on the S.XIII at the moment and then I will send them to you guys to publish them via RoF sharing tool.
Nice 'lisek', here is Sander's 'wolfchen' :D
