This aircraft was originally flown by Portuguese Captain Oscar Montero Torres of SPA 65. Torres was wounded and brought down behind German lines by Lt. Rudolf Windisch (his 6th victory) on 19 November 1917. The aircraft was captured essentially intact, and Windisch was reported to have flown the aircraft in combat while it still carried its French markings. He later had the aircraft painted red and added German markings, but he carefully preserved the original SPA 65 markings as well. He flew the re-painted SPAD in combat again, but was eventually persuaded (perhaps ordered) to cease such flights and return to his Albatros D.V. Soon thereafter, Windisch was transferred to Jasta 50, and then a few days later was appointed to take command of Jasta 66. While commanding Jasta 66, Windisch was shot down and captured on 27 May 1918, but appears to have died in captivity under mysterious circumstances.

I know some folks aren't thrilled with these captured skins, but this one was just so cool looking I couldn't resist doing it:

While I was at it, I decided to make this a "2-fer" and throw in a version of this aircraft before it was captured, while it was still being flown by Captain Torres of Esc. SPA 65:

Enjoy!

Really nice skin…but (there it is!)…once again, I don't see the point of skins for captured planes.

You can't take off in a SPAD from a German field. So what good is it?

Have we really exhausted every possible Allied SPAD skin possibility? I really doubt it.

I vote NO.

I'm going to be a little pissed off if I mistake this for a German aircraft and get shot down by it online.

That's hardly a criteria. You're pissed off every day when the sun comes up.

I believe you can take off in a SPAD from German field, at least in single player - all you need to do is write a mission that will let you do it. I understand (from what I've heard) that you may not be able to do that in multiplayer, but I don't play multiplayer so that doesn't bother me. I'd love it if the devs would eventually make it possible to use these captured skins correctly in career mode and even multiplayer, but that's a pretty low priority for me and I would assume it is for them too (I hope so anyway - they have plenty more important things to be working on at the moment). But in the meantime, it's a beautiful, historical skin that (unlike some of the other ones) was actually reported to have been flown in combat. So, to your question why, I simply say, why not? (with apologies to Bobby/Ted Kennedy)

Have we really exhausted every possible Allied SPAD skin possibility? I really doubt it.

No, I'm sure we haven't exhausted every possible Entente SPAD skin possibility. But, I don't see why that matters, and since I'm doing this for free because I enjoy it, and I wanted to do this one because it's cool looking, I'm not sure why I should have to wait until somebody does all the Entente SPAD skins before I could do this one. If you want to pay me to do the other Entente SPAD skins first, instead of the ones I want to do, I'll be happy to negotiate a deal with you, but I don't think you'll like my price

I vote NO.

That of course is your right - that's why we have polls - and I appreciate you bothering to take the time to explain why you did so. :S!:

It would be just as risky flying this skin in MP and being shot down by an Entente plane mistaking it for a German.

Nice work. I voted yes!
