No longer compatible with current game versions. Do not use.

A modicication of the default oil texture. More a spray than a series of seperate splats.

For those who are more DIY types, below is the default Oil.tga for you to modify:

PS: Default one looks like this…

yeah,,great job…thanks!

wf2, download and extract to a seperate folder.

inside the betteroilblotch folder you will see a data folder.
copy that data folder into your Rise of Flight root folder, it will say there is alreay a data folder, just say ok. you should then end up with a data\graphics\textures\effects folder with an oil.tga file in it.

run with mods on and get shot

Dude, very well done.

Does this need mods on ticked?

————-

I can't download the file. Media fire bombards me with popups and after I close them the rar file isn't there? :?

Ok, found it.

Yes, it is JSGME ready. Just put the folder into your jsgme folder, enable the mod, and you're good to go.

Does the overall effect stay the same? Because I have noticed the splatter comes and goes and once the engine is shut off it clears totally. I would hate to loose that but I would love to use your new effect.

No worries, everything works as per usual. It is only the texture pattern that I changed.

I really hope so. Hats off to 777 for getting the oil splatter effect coded into the game, but it only makes sense to use the better image.tga file that Feathered has taken the time to create.

Hi Fifi, the level of difficulty etc is the same, just the pattern is different. being used in Mods-on
mode though, it wouldn't matter much if it did. :)

Btw, the default texture is only 1024x128 pixels. Does anyone think a higher resolution one would be worthwhile?

You could try it, but what you've done looks great feathered. When you have a finished file that you're happy with can I include it in the "mod compilation" jsgme download?

Devs have their own version of new oil. I think it looks more like oil than what the currently have and more like oil compared to featherds version.

That being said, I did an experiment with some flying goggles and used motor oil sprayed through a spray bottle.

The result is that the oil drops themselves are "invisible" to the eye due to the distance the goggles are from your eye. You cant focus that close which makes it more of a blur in your vision than a particle that stands out. My own feeling was that it should be something more like stationary rain drops that ROF currently uses, only in smaller droplets.

The oil doesnt pool thick enough to prevent it from being very translucent/almost transparent, so its not necessarily oily looking. 777s new oil effect does capture that bit of translucent effect which is nice.

The community has made enough noise on this one for a change to be in the works, so chill for a little and see what comes out of it before you demand to have Featherds (though it is pretty) oil mod in game.

Forgive the hijack, but the community has made far more noise about long range sniping than this new fangled oil effect. I don't even have to include myself for this to be true. Why the quick response this time?

I like Feathered_IV's oil particles, but from the screen shots they look more like a build up of oil impregnated muck.

I think this would be COOL to have a gradual build up of flecks of muck, built up over the duration of a flight, while an oil leak or damaged engine might produce, for arguments sake, the new "improved" oil blotches from the dev's.

Just out of curiosity Chill31, did you set up a fan or go for a ride on a motorbike while spraying :geek: !

Feathered, you did a pretty nice job :)
But i'll stick with 777 oil effect, as i think it's harder to see something with it, and harder to spot a landing area. Our sight is more blurred, and that's how i imagine oil effect.
