Fantastic news. Quite surprising too, I'd quietly started to give up hope on this one. How wrong I was.

A very large :S!: to Petrovich and 777.

Looks very promising Petrovich!

I see that you make complex FM revision for N-17 the same like with Se5a. It is very good.
I see now that performance of rotary engine in new N-17 is more close to reality - i mean best at lower alts and worse at higher. I hope other rotaries in other planes will be corrected the samy way - like Dr1 and Camel which perform too good at higher alts.

Good that N-17 will be little more sturdy in dive beacuse actually it really cant dive.

I hope after N-17 we will get FM revision for planes which are the most dubfull like Albatros DII, Pflaz DIIIa ( stall charactersitic), EIII ( stall characteristic and stability) etc.

Good work Petrovich and we are looking for more :S!:

Thank you Petrovich! Your posts about flight models are always a ray of sunshine!

If you can, please tell us which aircraft you might review after the holidays. The Camel? The Albatros D.Va? The Dr1? The Albatros D.II? :)

Hi guys,
some words about Newport 17 :)

Here have been done re-tuning the most of characteristics, like S.E.Va: aerodynamic performances, control and stability, engine and airscrew performances, DM, etc… So, now the airplane is quite close to known sources (speed, climb) and it's a really pleasure for me to fly by new Nieuport 17: the airplane very good controled, can fly at low airspeed (60-70 km/h), it has very short takeoff distance (about 50m), and good maneuver. And of course it has more strong wings and ailerons now. I can do 230-240km/h in dive w/o overclocking RPM at full throttle, but higher airspeed may be dangerous for low wings.

Seems PERFECT to me :!: and after the Spad VII release, it's the best news ever for me :P
I'm gonna love this so cute little plane, i'm sure!

I just love the serious of your plane consideration, all of you devs :S!:

You guys know that this is how Petrovich gets to work and researches his data right?

So will the New N17 be included in 1.022? :)

I'm sure they are going to do their best (as usual) to include it. Jason said "probably".
I hope too.

Sooo..Windsock actually reports the Nieuport 11 being faster than the Nieuport 17.

I hadn't expected it, but Rise of Flight seems pretty accurate in this, then?

Not overly surprised. I think they were still trying to figure out what the most important aspects of a Scout should be. The N17 seems to place a higher importance on climb (something which seams to be of less importance in RoF). The excess power that gives it a better climb would also presumably have allowed the N17 to perform manoeuvres that the N11 couldn't, at least not without the N11 sacrificing altitude in order to maintain adequate airspeed and therefore, one imagines, losing the initiative against a stronger opponent (again, I'm not sure this is adequately demonstrated in the sim).

If that's true, RoF is pretty accurate, and nearly perfect.

Still, I have to wonder how it's possible for the N.11 to be faster with that 80hp engine. I guess the weight and wing area is the answer.

Anyway, all other sources I could find mention 156kph for the N.11, and 175kph for the N.17, so if that is true instead, then the RoF FM is indeed off. EDIT - maybe 175kph is reference to versions with the 130hp engine?

While on the topic of Nieuports, why not the N.23, 24, and 27? :D

Post removed by author…My remarks did not involve enough commentary regarding late war SPADs to qualify as a proper Misha James post.

Something something SPAD. Something something then dive away.

Prop pitch.

Is it actually different? I thought they had the same prop. It is true that prop pitch varies performance though(Re.8 vs DFW).

Nieuport 17 flew better now but AI had always problems to managed the control specially in landing. Yesterday, after landing, I have switched to the camera to look the landing of the other three Nieuport 17 of the squadron. All three had crashed in landing; two after touch down and rocking, give power in an attempt to go around and a second after both stalled and crashed. The third in final went direct to crash in a hangar. Career model ,all default, any mod there.
