SE5a of Keith Muspratt, 56 sqn, 1917

This machine was one of the first SE5a-s with the new 200HP engine. It was built by the Royal Aircraft Factory in Farnborough, supplied to 56 sqn on 21 July 1917. The machine was flown by Keith Knox Muspratt until 2 December 1917, when Barry Truscott crashed it on landing and it was returned to 2ASD for repair.

Muspratt was a very popular member of 56 sqn, a good friend of Rhys Davids, he scored 8 confirmed victories. He died in an crash on the 16 March 1918 at Martlesham where he was a test pilot.

This pack contains 2 versions of this machine. The first one carries a blue dumbell, the squadron marking in August - September 1917, also during the legendary dogfight with Werner Voss:

The second version represents the machine in November 1917. The blue dumbell was replaced by a white band on the 27 September 1917. It is also slightly more weathered due to the use of the machine in unfavorable Autumn weather:
