I have tried installing the official skin packs and also the Historical ones. But everytime I double click on the .exe skin pack. It says you need 1 gb on current drive to extract installation files. Begin extraction? So I click on yes. Then it extracts but does not show me where it extracts to. Then it pops up an ATI catalyst install manager screen like it wants me to install a video driver or something. It does this for the official skin packs and the historical ones. What am I doing wrong? The game is patched to the latest files. Any help will be appreciated.

It should create a temporary RoF folder on your desktop. Inside the folder is the installer.

The installer should automatically place the skins in the proper folders when you run it.

I get the ATI catalyst install manager, too. I just ignore it. I have no idea why that happens.

Hope that helps.

I really must do this myself

So for Career skins only, do I just need the "RoF Official Skinspack v.1.020" in useful materials ? Anything else ?

No - the new career mode also uses some of the skins from the Community Historical Skin Packs (only some so far - more to be integrated later), so you will need to D/L and install the Community Historical packs as well. If you only want to install some of the historical skins instead of all of them, check out these threads for some options about how to do that:

I get the message that unins0000.exe cannot replace existing file, access denied.

I ran it as Administrator and I am not using the Program Files (x86) folder but one I created at the root ( C:\MyProgram Files\Rise of Flight\ )as recommended by a post in these forums. The skins seem to copy across ok, I just get that message.

Welcome to the Forums!

and good to see you're in the running for the necro-post of the month award :)

If you're trying to D/L the skin packs from the official links, they sometimes get corrupted and throw off such error messages.  You might want to try using my alternate links, available here:

https://riseofflight...ge-alternative/

Good luck!

NW Jarvis and I went about it last night . He had me DL Historical skin pack 19 which failed and wanted a CD. Same again on historical skins vol 1, and again on fictional vol 1.

They want a CD and will not allow me to put them in a folder even if I make one.

I have no idea where any of these files even went .

This is Win 10 on a HP Omen desk top. I have a dvd external, but downloaded the game in the last week or so of Nov. I have no cd's for this game.

NW Jarvis is great help, but is not sure why I am getting a CD request. I am no tech what so ever and I am completely baffled. I am no good at acronyms either .

Weird - never had this happen nor seen any other posts about it.

Where did you get the skin pack files from - the official links or my alternate ones?  I just tried it with Fictional Volume 1 from my alternate links and it installed on my Win 10 laptop just fine.

Are you maybe trying to run the .exe file from inside the zip file, rather than copying it out first and run it from there?  Not sure whether or why that would matter, but I always copy the .exe file to some temp location outside and run it from there, and I've never had any trouble with it.

One other thought.

If your game is installed in the Windows programs paths by default, you may be getting UAC issues when you try to add or modify files in those areas.

In that case, you might want to try running the skin .exe container as administratory (right click the program and select "Run as Administrator").

Hope that helps.

It gets stranger......

Some planes, and I an not sure which got some of the skins, but I don't know which pack they are from. I don't know how this happened since the down loads appeared to have failed. The Se5a got 2 skins A "V" and a "W" I think. The Camel got 2 Skins, One has a top wing pint job in swirly blue and the other has a metallic blue fuselage .

As far as I know none of the few German planes I have got any skins, and if there is a way to 'See' all my planes in one place with skins ops I don't know where that would be, and so it seems I will have to discover them all one by one. .

The skin I wanted was for the N.-17 that death head with the long curly hair . To me this is just part of learning the game and of course making NW Jarvis miserable because some body has gotta do it ! ;) I am old it's what I do .LOL I fly poorly, get shot down fast, and break up the Basic Training camp.

Not sure exactly what is happening here, but the game does come with a small number of skins in its default installation, so maybe you're seeing some of those?

As far as I know none of the few German planes I have got any skins, and if there is a way to 'See' all my planes in one place with skins ops I don't know where that would be, and so it seems I will have to discover them all one by one.

There are a couple of good ways to see what skins you have for each plane type.  The simpler one is to use the game's built-in viewer, which you can access by running the file Rise of Flight\bin_viewer\release\UserViewer.exe.  This is the easiest way to simply view the skins, but does not let you actually do anything with them.  The other is to use Laser's cool skin management tool, which requires a bit of effort to make work correctly (and still has a problem displaying some of the preview pictures) but which can be very useful for searching for and actually managing the skins files themselves, and can display most preview pictures for those skins (like the ones in the approved/released skin packs) that have preview pictures.  Laser's tool can be found through the links I posted here:   https://riseofflight...g-related-info/

The skin I wanted was for the N.-17 that death head with the long curly hair .

I created some composite readme files that make it easy to search for particular skins and determine which volume/skin pack they were contained in - you can find links to those files here:  https://riseofflight...ng-skin-packs/ .  There's a separate composite readme for historical vs fictional skins, so it would help if you at least know which type of skin you're looking for, but you can always just search both if need be.

I'm not sure if "death head with the long curly hair" will be enough information to find it by searching that way (though you might as well give it a try, perhaps searching on either "death" or "head", since those terms are fairly rare and might show up in the descriptive part of the listings).  Failing a direct hit, you could perhaps try just scrolling through all the N17 skin listings in the various volumes to see if anything pops up that might be it.

Failing all else, you could try posting in the following thread (with a picture of the skin you're looking for if possible) to see if someone might know it and/or have a copy of it they could provide you:  https://riseofflight...nge#entry636783

Good luck!

I will look back at this again as I try for the skins again. My time is a delicate balance sometimes of having time to get a down load installed and not have to leave the pc 1/2 way thru.
