UPDATED! 7 June 2015 - confirmed the 1.030b versions below still work with 1.037

UPDATED! 2 March 2015 - confirmed the 1.030b versions below still work with 1.036

UPDATED! 28 May 2013 - Latest Update for version 1.030b - I have taken the 1.029 version practice missions and opened/resaved them in the version 1.030b Mission Editor, as required because of the mission format/mechanics changes that happened with the latest update, and they appear to be working with version 1.030b - the updated/resaved versions are available here, for use with JSGME just like before:

D/L link for missions:

[NOTE - removed all previous links to earlier versions below, to avoid people getting confused and D/L'ing the wrong version]

UPDATED! 15 January 2013 - Latest Update for version 1.029 - I have taken the 1.028 version practice missions and opened/resaved them in the version 1.029 Mission Editor, as required because of the mission format/mechanics changes that happened with the latest update, and they appear to be working with version 1.029 - the updated/resaved versions are available here, for use with JSGME just like before:

[previous update/info - now obsolete]:

OK - UPDATED FOR BRISTOL F2B:

UPDATED! 7 June 2012 - some issues were discovered with the starting altitudes and load-outs in some of these missions, so AnKor85 has generously made some revised versions available that address those issues:

Attached archive with corrected and resaved practice missions: 1800m starting altitude and Photo loadout for Breguet.

[link deleted]

I am traveling away from my RoF PC for a few days and haven't been able to test these or update the JSGME-ready versions linked to below - I'll do that sometime next week, but in the meantime I thought some folks might like to use the versions linked to above.

FOUR photo recon missions (one for SPAD XIII, Breguet 14, Bristol F2B (F.II) and DFW C.V) are now available, zipped up in a JSGME-ready "mod" - you can get them here:

[link deleted]

Now you can learn how the photo recon mechanism/process works before you start a 2-seater career.

After you install them into your RoF game folders (either via JSGME or manually), when you go to the "Missions" menu in RoF you will see a category for "Photo Recon Practice", and when you click on that you should see the four missions. [b][i]Be sure to check your load-out in the hangar before starting the mission, and choose the "photo" loadout. Also, for these training missions you should turn on "subtitles" in your settings, so you can see the messages about what's happening and what you need to do during the training missions.

NOTE - when doing these practice missions, stay at the same altitude and fly level - if your plane changes altitude much or has much bank or pitch attitude, your camera icon will become inactive and you won't be able to take your photos (you may see a red X or similar symbol across your camera icon). Where available (i.e., other than for the SPAD), your best bet is probably to use your bomb-site view and turn on level auto-pilot while snapping your pictures - that way you can see your target without banking your plane so much it messes up the camera icon. In the real (career) missions, if you don't see your camera icon activate when you're over your target area, check your altitude - it should probably be close to 2,000 meters in order to work best.

Thanks to Laser for creating the SPAD mission and thanks to Richy for posting the info about how to do these in the Mission Editor.

Enjoy! If you spot any problems with any of them, please post here or send me a PM.

Just flew the Breguet one. very nice , and now I know how to do it.

What i'd quite like with these photo missions is a camera view, and a mappable hotkey. Maybe external view is better. I'll try I next time.

I just use the bombsite view - works great for me. (At least for B14 and DFW - haven't tried the SPAD yet)

I get the camera icon in Spad mission, but what keys do you use for taking photos? Only new to this title and like it so far

I'm not sure if you can map a key to take the pictures - I didn't see any obvious candidates for that in my options screen. I believe you just need to left-click on the camera icon first with your mouse, which brings up a second camera/shutter looking icon, which you then left-click on with your mouse to take the picture. You'll probably need to right click with your mouse in the beginning of the process (when you see the camera icon first pop up) to put yourself in mouse mode so you can left-click on the camera icons.

I hadn't tried the SPAD mission before (just adapted them to the other plane types) - it turns out you don't have a bombsite view with the SPAD, so that's going to make it a bit more challenging to try to take these shots - I guess you will have to maneuver around and look down to see your target, then start flying straight and level again to make sure your camera will still work to let you take pictures. Makes me wonder exactly how they mounted and used the camera IRL in that bird. So much easier in those types that already have bombsite views.

Thanks for the explanation, I'm just trying the Demo since the weekend, but will buy this now. Only tried offline yet, as not sure how much bandwidth is eaten up online and I only have a limited account, also what's best way to buy this I see seperate planes, mod sets, and 3 other upgrades, Lite 19.99, Demo ICE upgrade $34.99, and Demo Ultra Upgrade $72.99, sorry if I'm asking too muchbut noticed your name featured around the board. Thanks

Welcome to the Forums!

NP - a lot of what you will see about the old packs/upgrades (Ice, etc.) may or may not still be relevant or the best way to go now that they've recently changed the whole marketing approach and made the demo a full-blown 2-plane version of the game instead of a limited version to be upgraded from the old way. Therefore, be sure to check out the online store carefully for specials and current deals before deciding on the best way to start filling out your stable of planes and field mods to add to the game.

BTW - I've added a new practice mission for the Bristol F2B that they added with the latest patch (ver. 1.020) - the download link in the first post has been updated to include all 4 practice missions.

Also note - whether you install these missions manually or via JSGME (although the missions are installed by JSGME as if they were a "mod", the way that tool uses that term), they should still be playable in either "mods on" or "mods off" mode from RoF's perspective.

I upgraded 1019 demo and it says I have 1020 but I don't think I've got the Bristol yet just the Spad and Albatross D.va, but saw some posts about it being a nice addition to series. Thanks for your help.

You won't have the Bristol (or any of the other non-demo planes) yet, unless you have purchased them. It was introduced as being available for purchase with the latest patch, and you will see it and fly against it in your game now (when it's being flown by AI or by other players in MP) but you won't be able to choose and fly it yourself unless/until you purchase it.

Yes I gathered that was the reason, I need to go to mainland and get a debit card tomorrow or early next week before I buy the full version, by the way with that delux version do you get the field mods included?

I'm not sure exactly what you get with what special these days - just check them all carefully before you take the plunge. I've bought all the planes as they've been released (on pre-order where possible) before they changed their approach with the demo, and I bought all the field mods at one time when they were originally introduced (so at least got a nice discount for buying so many of those at once), so I'm not really up to speed on the details of the various offers or specials they've introduced lately. Also, some people like the physical things you sometimes got with boxed editions like ICE, so for some folks it might still make sense to pick up some extra planes that way instead of buying them all in the online store - you just need to look carefully at what all is available and what packages/specials make the most sense for you based on what you want most/first.

As others have said a dedicated hotkey for photo taking would be useful. With TIR active having to right click then left click to use the mouse isn't that intuitive.

I like the level of difficulty though, having to fly at a certain hight and keep the aircraft stable feels right.

Hey Guys - I just started flying the Bristol (my first multi-seater)and have some novice questions…
- how do I become the gunner?
- how do I use the camera?
- how do I use the bomb site?
I've set "2-seater" controls, looked in the "guide" and played around with different buttons with no luck.
Thanks…

Use LEFTCTRL+C to switch between gunner and pilot positions.

Fly one of the practice missions mentioned in the first post of this thread and follow the instructions to learn how to use the camera.

Use V to toggle in and out of bomb site view

Agreed! It's very clumsy to use the mouse with TIR on. A keystroke would be better.

The practice missions are great, though! Thanks, Panther!

I would be really cool if there was a camera interface similar to the bombsight view. That way you feel like you are actually doing the work.

I would even enjoy seeing the black and white prints after you return to base.

I think MediaFire was just having a hiccup - I just tried it and it took me a couple of times with some odd screens from them, but I did get the download link to work.

Thanks for the missions most helpful, clicking the camera icon is a pain if only you could asign a joystick button to do the same thing.
And while they (777) can do the same for the map.

A little moan from time to time but in the end I just love this sim.

Must go I have a Spad 7 ticking over.

The download in my first post above is a JSGME-ready package - so, if you use JSGME (and you should!), you just unzip this into your "MODS" folder (in your main RoF folder) and use JSGME to activate/load it for you.

If you don't use JSGME for some reason (and you should re-think that :) ), you can manually put the folder called "Photo Recon Practice" in your …data\Missions folder.

You'll only have a "MODS" folder if you use JSGME and have created one yourself previously for use with JSGME.

So, you can either create a MODS folder (in your main RoF install folder), unzip my download file into it, and install and use JSGME to activate it, OR you can just manually add the missions to RoF as I outlined above. Your choice, though I would strongly recommend you use JSGME as it's a remarkably useful tool for quickly and easily managing/installing all sorts of mods.

Thanks for these missions now I understand camera work.

Is there anything similar for artillery spotting. It seems like a giant game of noughts and crosses and i really have no idea what I am supposed to be doing!

Better go and buy the DFW, as it's the only twin seater I do not have, typical!! 8-)

It would be cheaper to have a gambling addiction and keep a mistress than have this sim!!

It does seem a bit pricey when you first start but Call of Duty or Battlefield would have released quite a few versions at $99 each before this will be deleted from your hard drive, once you have most of the planes you want, it doesn't cost much to buy the odd one that is released, especially when the sales are on.

I really liked the photo recon feature when it first came out, but it definitely needs a key option to avoid using the mouse, which, as others have said, does not feel intuitive. In fact, I now have a different approach for photos. I only play SP, mostly self-designed missions - the great beauty of the ME is that you can create missions with a considerable amount of variety and uncertainty - even when playing a mission you made yourself. What I now do is this:

set up a recon mission, usually with a wide variety of alternative ground objects ('activate' and deactivate' is your friend). When over the target area, go to bomb sight view, take 'photos' via fraps screenshots. This feels much more realistic, and has the added bonus that you can view your photos afterwards, and create additional missions based on them if you wish…

Not a dumb question at all.

This is not really a mod (although I've packaged it up like a JSGME-ready "mod" for ease of installation) - it's just a collection of missions, so it can be flown with Mods Off, and based on a quick test I just flew it seems to work just fine with 1.023b.

How do I setup a Photo Recon mission for multiplayer?

Single mission is ok, can't get it to work for multiplayer DF or Coop.
