Wonderful work. I only wish you could make the Nieuports look silvery grey like the default skins. These are almost white :?

Ok, then you're right Greg!
Might be tough work to remake all basic white paint, Dawgy?

I used the default template skin as the base … They look almost silver on my monitor … I can try to darken them a bit more …

I know…I had a lot of trouble with that too. If you export the default template thes skins will look way to bright, too white, and too clean. Nothing like the stock skins :(

I found that desaturation, darkening and duplicating the dirt layers helps, but it's still not as good as it should be. :( Perhaps Panthercules can give you a hand, he managed to get it right!

Which one of mine do you think came out the best in this respect? I can send him my .psd file for that one if it would help.

Great job on the struts on the DR.1's nice to see someone else thinking about detail for a change. Although for the metal braces, you might want to tone down the contrast a bit, it makes it look like the lines were painted on.

the planes from Jasta 11 work just fine as fill-ins …

On a side note … which skin is better, I like the clean look but it does tend to be "TOO CLEAN"

Dirty

PS… Has anyone noticed that the Nieuport 17 has a wierd line and circle shadow on the fuselage when the reflection shines on it just right? It doesn't appear to be a shodow of the plane, but more like a shadow of one of the defaut skin paint jobs …

Have to fix the alpha layer for that, the default paint on some planes has alpha layers that mimic the paint to make it look 3D like real paint

I opened up the one you sent me and took a look at it, compared to my versions, and I think you have it pretty much spot on at this point. Looks like you didn't need my help after all :)

Good work!

Cheers,

We're considering these movie-based skins as fictional/"For Fun", which is why they're posted here in the fun section instead of in the "Historical" section. If it turns out that they actually used a real historical skin in the movie, and this can be substantiated by other historical references, then that particular skin could be submitted over in the Historical section, but I don't believe that's the case with any of these Flyboys movie-based skins.

I only "submitted" the "fokkers" … I didn't paint them. They were done by two others that I received permission to post. I have not even looked at the DR-1 Template yet, let alone what the two DDS files look like (other than to rename the one to conform to submission standard).

I may look at them at a later date, but I have to admit … I didn't pay much mind to them, other than to include them in this set.
