Hi gents,
Just installed a ps3 eye, installed code labs latest drivers, can get the cl eye test to run ok, but for the life of me i can't get FacetrackNoIR to run at all. It knows there's a ps3 eye camera there but no face showing up in the widget. With the cl eye test both the red and blue led's light up, but with F'NoIR just the blue led is on and nothing else. Any ideas?
Cheers.

Tried rebooting the PC? I had a similar issue right after installing the PS3 eye, it worked in cl eye test but not FaceTrackNoIR. I rebooted and all was OK after that.

I'll have to take it back about the geek bit. I installed The FaceAPIdemo with its updated IPP libraries and it now works. Looks like I won't be shouting myself a TrackIR now that the missus has seen that it works.
Cheers.

Woops,

http://codelaboratories.com/downloads/

Check this out.

and this:

http://facetracknoir.sourceforge.net/compatibility/webcams.htm

and make sure you follow the instructions in the readme, there's no reason why is should not work which would not involve you having missed something.

Infra Red. It's what TrackIR uses and noIR doesn't use (Hence the name)

This is my current, it works great, but the program crashes alot for me.
Not sure if the TIRviews.dll makes any real different, but I believe I earn an extra minut before it crashes.

1.7 works loads better, much smoother and easier to control using teh Accela mk2 filter. Pilots head actually moves where you want it to now and works better in low light. Had to re-do some curves but working well so far. Only one odd problem is that I cant look up more than about 45 degrees without it flicking to six o'clock view. Have worked around this by using the 'bow head movement up' to the POV hat so you can extend to 90 degrees up. This is automatically overridden by the program to bring back to cockpit view when you move your head again so is fine.

Overall, would recommend!

Hello all. I'm a noob to ROF and I want to use FTnoir. My question is, How far away can you sit from your camera and have it see you? I like to use my 55" led tv for a monitor. It works great on my new 8 core pc and I would love to have this work with the camera hanging off the top of the TV. I'm about 10 feet away at the moment but in my quick test this morning before work, I needed to be about 5 feet away for FTnoir to see me. Obviously I can determine the limits of my setup but I was just checking to see if anyone here had a tweek that I could use.

My camera is a Logitec 9000 pro and I'm using the 170 beta if that matters.

Thanks in advance!

Ok,I've got FTnoir working and I'm using the newest one, 1.7. I've been looking over other peoples ini files and mine don't seem to look anything like them. I'm assuming the new version has changed the structure of them. I'm trying not to reinvent the wheel here, so can anyone share thier ini file for 1.7 or enlighten me on how I should edit my ini file using the ones that others have posted?

This is what my ini file looks like.

There are two installers on the website http://facetracknoir...ks/download.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://facetracknoir...rceforge.net/in … wnload.htm maybe you did get the wrong one. In your case I would rename the old map or backup it and install the full installer and start all over!!!

Hi bonserk, try these. Works fine apart from the look up problem - see my previous post. Am just working on fine tuning the speed and looking horizontally between 90 and 180 degrees which is a bit quick still - will prob increase the head movement to 40 degrees. I just did the update from 1.6 and all the curves are gone as they have changed the format.

See how it goes.

I'm still using my old saved rof file, only I have noticed that this software do not save the fine tuned curve settings, edit: because it was set to read only

:) V1.7. Some of you have two sets of curves listed. the first with the X an Y axes along with lots of '0's. The other with the X and Y axes with simple 'across' and 'up' points. Since I have only the 'other', am I missing something? Besides RoF, I'm using this for FSX. Since 'Simconnect.ini' is strictly FSX, then 'Default.ini' must be for RoF along with 'Free Track 2.0' game protocol - right? :)

I'm using the Free Track 2.0 protocol with the accela filter (using the recomended settings in the sourceforge FTNIR\accela subforum).

Note that the view/tracking limits have changed in 1.7 - you can now have 180 deg movemvent in the vertical rotation axis. Its as if your head has pivoted 180deg backwards in ROF when you look behind you. ROF does not like this and will crash so you must set the 'pitch up' axis curve to a limit of 90 deg.

Other than that 1.7 is working brilliantly.

Using it with a PS3 Eye camera.

Azref, other than being a little quick off the mark, those are the best I've tried so far. Wim at Source Forge recommended a very low 'smooth' number but I've done better maxed at 50. Have you tried yours with any dead zone?

I am indeed using deadzones, on every access to be exact, with most set between 5 and 10 degrees. As for the smooth number, i have found it seems best set low, mine is set about 15 atm, to gives me the best effect.

I'm still new to using this, but it's deffinately convinced me there is no need to invest in TrackIR at this point. :S!:

P.S. I'm using a PS3 Eye Camera i found in a box.

The webcam is a Logitech C310 but the good stuff I'm hearing about the PS3eye makes me think of change. The reason I asked about dead zone is I didn't see what I thought they were on your curves. Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't the dead zone a short distance along the X axis at the '0' Y axis level? Not done with 'smoothing' by any means. Use this also with FSX so, other than the 'simconnect' files, there are probably more differences.

Has anyone managed to solve the pitch problem with facetracknoir yet? My 3 point tracking with Freetrack worked fine and I could look up 90 degrees. I really like facetracknoir now though because I don't need anything on my head. But if I set anyvalues past 90 degrees on the curve, the view goes wonky. If I set the value to 90 degrees, the view works fine but I can only actually look up 45 degrees. I've donated to facetracknoir and have the latest alpha version of V180. Still no joy…

This simple problem has been around for a year or more. Still nobody is fixing it… :(

So I am extremely new to the Facetrack NoIR software, and cannot seem to get it to work in my Rise of Flight game at all. I feel like I am missing something very obvious and will most likely be embarrassed by any replies.

Here is the FaceTrackNoIR window, appears to be running and tracking my face appropriately. But when I start Rise of Flight, it doesn't seem to function properly. By function properly, I mean the game does not recognize my head movements at all.
http://puu.sh/crEu7/b803453900.png" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://puu.sh/crEu7/b803453900.png

Could anyone give me any insight into how to get this to work appropriately?

Thank you for your time ahead of time.

Sidenote:
Sorry for resurrecting an ancient post. Google brought me here.

Just posting back here as an update. I was able to get the Facetrack NoIR software running properly with the newest version 1.7

I actually had to do the small amount of steps in this video on Youtube:
https://www.youtube....h?v=qhOXCJye-jU" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">

After doing those steps, the software seemed to be recognized by the game and I was able to look around. I am going to need to play with some settings as the looking around was very finicky and didn't always recognize when I wanted to look in a certain direction.

But progress has occurred.

It won't be fixed, your best bet is to use Opentrack. This is where the development of webcam facetracking is continuing.

I have the exact same problem. With FreeTrack, FaceTrackNoIR AND OpenTrack I can't get my pitch to reach the 90 degrees :(. Is this some protection in the code for Rise of Flight to make FreeTrack more flawed in comparation with TrackIR?

Do people with real trackIR get the full 90 degrees up and down in Rise of Flight? Every axis, like yaw gives the full degree, except for the Pitch axis.

With OpenTrack use the EZCA trackir option, in the settings panel for Game protocol:Freetrack. It will x2 the pitch output, which seems to be needed with RoF and BoS.

Just tried setting up FaceTrackNOIR with my PS3 Eye cam, seems to start fine, but as soon as I get in the frame of the camera, the display preview freezes for a second then goes away...

I have this error in the application event log:
