Got this info from Simhq.
Just want to know who is running on http://facetracknoir...ome/default.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://facetracknoir...ome/default.htm
If yes, can you share us you experience, seems to me this is more easier to adjust and to instal than freetrack, only I think it is sensitive and a CPUload eater.

Yep I’m an 2009 Rof pre-order buyer and one of the few that did buy the Sikorsky game.

Works fine for me, 1/4-1/2 sec delay on big movments, biggest problem is that it's crashing every 15min for me. Im testing it on a vx-3000, without an irfilter.

This shows how I use it right now, still working and trying it out.
Image

It helps to get something of a soft deadzone that accelerates with bigger head movements.
I also map the Start/Stop hotkey to turn it off ingame, then I center the view to the centrum of the gunsight, and press F10 to save it, and then turn TrackNoIr on. With this setup I dont need to snap to the sight, it works great to aim using only the head. But I also have a buttom on the joystick mapped to the gunsight If I need fast correction or extra zoom.

Like this.
Snap view

With smoothing at 1 or off and smoothing set in RoF it works a little bit faster for me.

If I find something better I may update it, still new to RoF and TrackNoIR.

Thanks for the reply, I did run a test, but my CPU got a loaded by extra 20%, so with RoF running at nearly 100% I think I should better wait for my Quad upgrade and then give it a try in RoF. I did use for freetrack modified MS-VX1000 webcam without IR filter.

Same for me, stuck with a C2D cpu, but it works, at least in single player mode.

Runs a bit faster with EWMA set lower, still good result in-game for me. Monitor lights and minimal backlight is all the light needed for the vx-3000 to work great with FaceTrackNoIR.

Only problem is that after I click Start, the program crashes random after a minut or two, sometimes not, but almost all the time. Running XP, and guess it's lifetray or something that is in conflict with the app. Not sure how to disable the standard drivers for the cam, and if it will work if I do so.

Not sure if the TIRviews.dll makes any real different, but I believe I earn an extra minut before it crashes.

Hi there, i'm using FTNOIR and it worked ok for me with CasperNilsson's first settings (thanks).

But i have a problem (besides crashes…), sometimes the pitch axis is disabled, do you have this problem ?

What is the TIRviews.ddl thing ?

Thank you again for these settings !

Check your keyboard shortcuts, you can disable and enable axis while ingame, and also recenter you head if you for example change you sitting position while in the game.

You find it under Options in v1.4.

It happens sometimes that I have to use the start/stop hotkeys to activate FTNoIR in-game after I reposition myself in front of the webcam. But never that a single axis is disabled.

The TIRviews.dll is a setting you find in the Fake TrackIR settings, not sure what it does, or if it actually works, guess not, but no harm trying.

Ok, I have fixed my problems with FTNoIR.
Main reason may be that I use a C2D CPU and have way to high EWMA filtering, when trying to optimize these settings I ended up with 100 on Yaw, 25 on X and about 10-15 on the rest, its not perfect but guess i´m not 100% still in front of the cam. Anyhow, ALL the crashes are gone, and i´m super happy to have it worked out.

All that was needed was a bit of love to configure the program a bit better.
Oh, and I also think that better light on my desktop helps a bit to give more contrast to my face, the program finds the face way faster now.

Koj, if you read the thread, the crashes may be course of too high EWMA, try to lower it or to disable it if it works for you. Might be way to noisy to have it off, but even to lower it helps a lot. Hope it helps.

Hi, i got FTNoIR working ok using the guides from CasperNilsson, but had a problem when i wanted to run ROF without using it.

I lost ability to turn pilot head in flight by using mouse and moving head fwd/back/side using kybd.
The Input settings are correct, they just wont work. Oddly, the mouse WILL work in-flight when using FTNoIR and dis-abling it, but i still lose fwd/back/side movement.

i thought it must be some simple 'enable TrackIR' startup setting, but cant find one.

Can anyone help?
Thanks

Hi,

I had tried to lower EMWA settings before, but not as low, and it's very significant ! no more (regular) crashes. Thanks again.

I'changed some settings in the "settings" section, like tracking ditance, it helps a little too (i think)

But i still get the pitch axis disabled some times… Now i just close/lauch the program.

@paullmf2 : There's a post on this subject, the only solution given by now is to unsinstall the program, or to delete a line in the registry, but i don't know wich one.

Koj, I also had the pitch bug recently, I have hotkey for start/stop, and a fast click and its working again. Annoying with all the bugs, but guess i´m to lazy to use a free track.

However I´m no longer using the curves I posted in the picture, they were fine when I started, but as I get used to it, I use more precise curves now. But at lest I thing its a good start for someone who is green to head tracking. one more thing that works for me is to minimize the program, before I had it on my second monitor to watch over it, but when I minimize it I´m almost free from crashes.

Same for me, the problem is generated by a file that remain on the pc even after deleting FTNoIR, but i discovered the solution: you have to remove file "FACETRACKNOIR.EXE-2FE37DD6.pf" from a C:\Windows subfolder (that i don't remember) and all return as before.

But the problem remains: i don't know how to run ROF without FTNoIR without deleting this file.

It works, maybe you should increase the forward and backward curve. I have an extra scroll on my throttle that I use for zooming, so I don't care that much for zoom. I Also have a sight snap and a gauge snap view on my joytick, I use both the facetracking and snaptracking.

Hi, facetrack users, I have installed seeing machines software before installing Facetrack. Seeing machines software is working, with my face showing up and the yellow face lines. Installed Facetracknoir, my MS VX-1000 webcam is showing up in the screen, so it is recognized, but no camera view with my yellow lined face on.
What is wrong???

edit: FacetrackNOIR does not work on Sandy bridge systems!!!
Did some testings and new beta have solve all this!! :S!:

I have had mixed results, it works fine during daylight hours. When the sun goes down, so does my facetrack noir. I think this is due to my webcam (HP Pro). I go back and try it once in a while and check for updates. I think this will be great when all the bugs are worked out. I will try some of the settings shown in this thread and see if it works better. I haven't messed with the curves much yet either. Good info here though, Thanks ! S!

I recently got into ROF and already had FaceTrackNOIR set up from Lock On.
Now I can't for the life of me get FT to work properly!

1st thing, although I sit the same as before, it is looking like I sat in the seat, and then am slouching down so the pin and the sight are no longer lined up (pin is about half way down the sight's stem)

To try and compensate, I added some buffer in the middles so there is less movement initially, and also scaled the outer movements so little movement at edges of vision result in larger ingame head movements.

Now when I fly, nearly impossible to have head still and looking through sights even though I'm barely moving my head. Almost makes you sick because it keeps jumping all around when trying to turn or line up a shot.
I end up flying without it at the moment, but know something like this is needed badly to help with SA.

Any help with profiles or curve setups would be appreciated!

Also, is there a way to set a key press ingame to stop mouse look input so can have it on for tracking, but when comes to lining up and shooting, can turn it off, then back on again for tracking.

Try setting a snap view to gunsight (hold snapview button - map it to stick - adjust view, hit F10, has to be done for each plane), this overrides the facetrack while the snapview button is held, it works OK, I think there is a deactivate TrackIR or whatever switch but it doesn't seem to work.

Also I just use Yaw, Pitch and X axes for now as either I need to get used to 6dof or it doesn't work well enough in FTnoir, quite flyable like that.

Edit: Hadn't updated it properly! Did to 1.5 then 1.6 and using 6dof its OK. Anyway casper N explains the snap view thing better on P2

I finally got this to work, and I absolutely hate it. It is far inferior to looking around the mouse; even the best settings I was able to find.

Worse still, my mouse-look view is totally fubar now, even when facetrack is not running.

If you persevere with it gav and configure it correctly you'll probably have a much better experience than changing hands on the stick to look around.

I've been using it for quite some time and theres' an excellent picture of how your curves/settings should look in the first page of this thread.

That's a good idea, I tried left hand mouse but never could get my head around it.

FTNoIR is better if you have a high FPS Webcam anyway (mine is a cheap one but it still works ok with some tweaking, I have it running fairly reliably and responsively since the latest build), if you don't have a good cam then it's not worth buying one to use it since you can probably get a Track IR from ebay for not much more.

Stay calm here, this software is only one year old and still in progress, but these kind of non-android system are just the future. And I think we all, fly-simmers & shooter-guys, should support such free projects. Eventually this kind of free projects will bring us more fun in gaming.

Profile: what I did was copy the Rof member .ini file from this forum and simhq, see link in early postings, which will bring you 3 Facetrack profiles only for RoF. Now check which of the 3 is working at the best, now you only have to do is the fine tuning. How is all explained on the forums or at the facetracknoir website. Until now getting the right adjustments is much easier then Freetrack.

Webcam: I'm running a Microsoft XV1000 and even without the [=removed] IR filter [was needed for Freetrack btw] it is running great. During daylight or at night, I never had any problems regarding the light. As you can read the PS3 webcam seems to be the best, but like jimmyblonde wrote down, check on ebay for older TrackIR systems for the same price.

Yep I’m an 2009 Rof pre-order buyer and one of the few that did buy the Sikorsky game.

I always had situational awarness issues, I tried relly everything and of course TrackIR was the solution but I will never spend so much money for a IR webcam, so I tried FacetracknoIR with a ps3 eye and is really the same thing after you set it well. At the price of a used ps3 webcam: 20€. No issues even at night with only the central light of my room lighted and constant fps.
Thank you evryone for bringing this up!

I installed FreetrackNoIR but wasn't able to run it…
I get a message that some .ddl is missing every time I try to fire it up…
Any suggestions?

Which .ddl? I think if you install headtrack demo that has one .ddl that sometimes helps, if you install trackir there's another, don't need to run them just install.

If you experience a similar error like this, after starting FaceTrackNoIR:
IPP-error

or if you experience a 'Waterfall' error, the IPP-runtime library was not installed correctly.

The best way to fix this is:

Go to 'Control Panel'/'Add remove software' (or similar), locate IPP-runtime library and un-install it.

Download the faceAPI Headtracking Demo from SeeingMachines. You will have to register, but it's free of charge.

Install the demo and try running it.

Start FaceTrackNoIR and start the Tracker. It should work now…

Optional: un-install the faceAPI demo. It will leave the IPP-runtime in-tact.

copypasted from the site, I had the same pronblem and this resolved for me

Yep, he is right, only if you running a new Sandy bridge system it is not possible. In case of a sandy bridge me know.

I am getting better with my piloting now, so my next focus will be on resetting FaceTrackNoIR to stock and trying to make a working profile.
I just have to remember the old mantra…. Make One Change Only At A Time and TEST!

I get in the habit of tweaking this and that at once, then when it doesn't work as expected it is harder to troubleshoot.

Let me know how you go with setting yours up, and as the mentioned above, the faceAPI will resolve your missing .dll issue.

In the new version, I'm running the beta, you do not need the software from seeing machines, so the .dll are solved on that point.

Sorry, but I got lost with the instructions… :?
I've got FaceTrackNoIR_Release_V130 + v1.50 update (as it says in the site v.1.40 will be not necessary)+ FTNoIR_Filter_EWMA2_bugfix.
In the installation instructions doesn't say that I need anything else.
Can somebody please, give, us ignorants, proper step by step installation instructions…

Thanks :S!:

Install 1.30 with installer, then extract 1.50 into the installation folder and finally extract EWMA bugfix over that. I managed to cock it up thinking that 1.5 was an installer and was using 1.3 for a while.

The new version is 1.6. You have to extract 1.6 over 1.5 I think, only way to get 1.6 is to donate (I did) TBH I think the dev is sitting on 1.6 to get donations as it's been this way for quite a while, soon as he releases it donations dry up I suppose.
