When Fokker D.VII was made, devs did not have correct engine data of mercedes DIIIau to model it. Now they do have it, so maybe they change it in future but it is not very important issue at the moment. Now all get back to topic which is about Sopwith Triplane.

Interesting news Mig, I hadn't heard that Neoqb had the Mercedes D3au data now. Hopefully we'll have the D7, Pfalz D12 and I think late Albatros V with this engine some time.

Awesome screenie Loft, full marks 8-)

In which we can thank Dave Watts from aerodrome forum who puplished original german test data of mercedes DIIIau and DIVa in there. I just relayed information to RoF devs.

I thought the Pup was a decent altitude performer or at least better than the Albatros. McCudden talks about out manouvering lumbering Albatros high up, them stalling immediately as soon as they tried to turn. I don't have the specific alt for this, I'd have to look it up.

I was surprised by this as I always thought inlines out performed rotaries hands down high up, maybe wing loading has something to do with it though?

Yes, the Pup did outperform the Albi's up high (McCudden talks of going up to 16,000 ft where his performance was better compared to the Pup).

I was talking about MP though where most people fly around at 2000ft :)

2,000ft or lower, and that high is still the exception rather than the rule, though I see it slowly changing…finally.

Yeah with my limited experience online if you want to fight you fly in high and fight low. If you want to live you fly in high and stay high and be bored, until you get that one great fight where another plane flies in high. I agree, this may change but only slightly. humans being who they are will take the fastest route to fun which is 2k up and balls to the wall to the action and hope you get some deck huggers when you get there.

2 machine guns really hit it's performance though I think they only made 5 or 6 of them.

Probably best not to worry about it… :)

And just as that happens, more and more missions include dense, low cloud layers. ;)

9

(Not an answer I just like giving random unquantified numbers to rhetorical questions).

E.g.

Friend: How often do you come to this pub?

Me: 7

(Sad I know.)

Atleast as good as that of the N17. I'm pretty sure about that. But i'm not a beta-tester.

I'm not a rocket scientist, but I think triplanes have better roll cause the wings are tucked up into a smaller area so they get less wind resistance. But screw that, the just look so dang cool! only thing better would be a quadraplane :D

there were many concept planes as quadraplanes :D

or that model: http://www.koolhoven.../aw-15wings.jpg" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.koolhoven.../history/airpla … 5wings.jpg

That depends. The Tripe is better off than the Dr1 not because it has more ailerons, but because it has ailerons on the middle wing, so their torque is perpendicular to the roll axis. Nickm pointed out that the Dr1 roll suffers because its aileron deflection is at an angle to the roll axis.
