MINIMAL content of acticles is ready.
Only few headers for fake articles are still required, look for list.

NOW please look for additional EXTRA newspapers, which may be released in any date (but not in date of routine newspapers releases).

If you want to make an EXTRA newspaper - please provide FULL content for it:
- Main EXTRA header
- Main article with header and image
- Secondary article with header and image
- Two headers for fake articles

ALL these components should be provided for EXTRA newspapers.

EXTRA newspaper (and it's main header and main article first of all) should be devoted to EXTRA subject (Country enters war, War Operation beginning, Kaiser Killed and other subjects of such scale of importance).
Secondary article and headers of fake articles may be (and it will be good) devoted to the same EXTRA subject too. But may be not.

Han - I will happily help with putting some articles together or getting some archived ones but not 100% sure on how you need it done.

Can you clarify?

What dates do you need? Are you looking for perfect historical accuracy etc etc does it need to tie into anything in particular?

Also HotTom might be worth asking as he is a professional journalist.

You may have to take him off "Read-Only" though- I think you suspended him for 4 weeks in a different thread.

I don't know if I can help (I guess I missed too many history classes.), but I'll probably have a closer look on that.
I just want to point out that I'm really astonished after reading this (dynamic newspaper, different articles, …). :D
I'm really looking forward to this new career mode, that just sounds awesome. :)

Han - I will happily help with putting some articles together or getting some archived ones but not 100% sure on how you need it done.

Can you clarify?

What dates do you need? Are you looking for perfect historical accuracy etc etc does it need to tie into anything in particular?

The best way - is to have sets of articles for required newspaper dates (look to first post).
But even separated articles will be useful too, but please note article actualization date in .txt file name (look at first post).

Please, look at "Minimum required list of newspapers" - it's important!

Also, please look at attached example (HowItWorks(example).zip) - you will see how all files should be named, formatted, you will see tags usage and all other specifics.

Anyway, if it is too hard for you to provide articles in such format - you may just post it here, with actualization date note. I'll format them by myself in this case.

Also HotTom might be worth asking as he is a professional journalist.

You may have to take him off "Read-Only" though- I think you suspended him for 4 weeks in a different thread.

Ok, I've restored his ability to post, we're waiting for him here :-)

PS

Han - I don't know if I'm being really stupid here but I can't see what dates you want them for.

Can you list the dates required on the actual post?

I think it's easier if I just post the articles up to here with a corresponding picture. (If I try and do it in the correct format I'm bound to make a mistake)

Puff - I will grab those photos off you if needed. Thanks for the offer.

Does anyone else want to help with pulling headlines/themes together?

I'll happily write the article if other people give me headlines and dates if you can't manage or don't have the time to do the full article.

Anyone else fancy helping in even if it's just pulling some headlines/events together from a WWI timeline?

I'm not going to be able to write 59 newspapers before October 20th without some help. :)

(Certainly if I wanted to eat and sleep at all in that time)

Drop me a private message Tom? I have some days off and some night shifts coming up. Also some annual leave before that date.

If you have any source material for the specified dates, I'm happy to draft some articles for them.

Whilst I'm no real-world reporter I'm a keen history buff and my real-world occupation is nursing; I have strong communication/literacy skills. I can probably churn out a reasonable article in pretty short order, so long as I'm not having to dig around for the sources, which will be the time consuming part.

Ok cool Mazac and myself will write the articles (along with anyone else who wants to contribute)

What we really need is everyone's help identifying what the key events at each date we should be writing about.

We can't research and write 59 papers without community help.

We need key aviation, war and other events that would be covered on those days including a specific date for them.

I can then research and Masaq and me can write them (although again any help there would be great)

Please note on this thread any progress or areas that you are investigating.

I'm going to start writing on Monday (I've set a day aside - that is dedication) so any subject headings/headlines would be great to get me started)

If anyone wants an easy one then 11/11/18 shouldn't be too hard… :)

This should help for inspiration for anyone:

FAO HAN Article for 23rd April 1917

Boeing Airplane Company Granted Contract for Navy Airplanes

The US Navy has offered a contract for 50 airplanes to the Boeing Airplane Company of Seattle. The company was incorporated last year by William E Boeing and George Conrad Westervelt and was originally formed as as B & W and the Pacific Aero Products Co before changing it's name in May of this year.

At a press conference to announce the contract Mr. Boeing stated that he was honoured to be able to help his country and the war effort by his company's contribution. Boeing has long been viewed as a forward thinker by some and by others as a dreamer as he has before attested that he foresees a future where high volumes of civilian passengers travel in comfort in airplanes eventually, he claims, lowering the dependence on trains and ocean liners. It may sound like science fiction but seeing Boeing in person and hearing him speak one witnesses a a phenomenal energy and determination. If any one can realise the dream of conquering the skies then no-one is better suited to achieve it than Mr. W E Boeing.

It would be nice however to get some non-American viewpoints as well. This is an archive of papers from New Zealand (Link is set to 1916):

Similar sources from England, Canada and Australia must be available somewhere.. I'll look some more later but no time at the present.

Okay, I've started an entry for 11th Nov, 1918.

So far I've got main header and one article (including picture). I will complete the second article and header-only articles on Monday. Feedback of the first article is appreciated, I've no problem with criticism and I'm happy to make edits. I've kept it as factual and as non-biased as possible.

Done.

Simply navigate to this URL - https://docs.google....xYTliZDA1&hl=en" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">https://docs.google....leaf?id=0B0-C8d … ZDA1&hl=en and select "Edit/Manage Folder". Once there, you can create a new subfolder (one per each date will be easiest, along with a tag to indicate whether it's a Work In Progress or completed, and the name of whoever's primarily working on it.)

Anyone can view and edit the files therein. Ideally, please first sign into Google Documents with a Google account - either a Gmail email address or a YouTube account will do, for example. That way changes etc are tracked so we can easily see who's done what.

I think Han said it needs to be fairly neutral and non-political (I guess to fit both sides)

I've got a question - presumably if I do an article on Richthofen's death then it means we can't meet him in the virtual skies and shoot him down prior to April 1918.

Or any other aces?

I'm hoping hope an article such as this would be activated upon death, but for historical purposes you should not allow to him live any longer than he really did yet the game should still allow an encounter by chance for him to get shot down.
So if the person flying the career shot him down then a phrase such as "Richtofen downed by Capt. Brown, of 209 SQN on 21st April 1918" in the article could be replaced by the person flying the career. Eg "Richtofen downed by Lieut. Player, SQN, whatever date"
I actually hope this is this case so with all the articles, interchangeability of pilots/squadrons/weather, and other aspects in an article would be a good thing to have since then single player would have more replayability this way. The person flying the career will definitely have a greater feeling of immersion if they are included in news articles rather than just following scripted newspaper articles for each day. That would be too linear imo

I would love to help out with writing articles, but I just don't have the free time atm :(

Just to add some light humor to the thread, I have the Onion's "Our Dumb Century." Some of the WW1 headlines are priceless:

August 5th, 1914: WAR DECLARED BY ALL. Austria declares war on Serbia declares war on Germany declares war on France declares war on Turkey declares war on Russia declares war on Bulgaria declares war on Britain. Ottoman Empire almost declares war on itself. Nations struggle to remember allies.

February 19th, 1915: 600,000 killed in 4-inch advance on Western Front.

April 7th, 1917: U.S. enters war; Wilson vows to 'make the world safe for corporate oligarchy.'

November 8th, 1917: Pretentious, goateed coffeehouse types seize power in Russia.

Nover 12th, 1918: War over as Franz Ferdinand found alive.
