I getting an Phenom 2 Quad core for my computer.. The motherbaord is an Asus M3A78-CM AM2/AM2+.

I have read loads on the issues of bios updates and the risk you take and even on the Asus website it states that only update if you experience any problems! So when my CPU arrives if I put it in wothout the update will it cause any damage to the cpu/motherboard or is it safe to do ?

Thanks Delboy

I would try the CPU before updating your bios. As the site said only do it if there is a problem. Bios flashing is risky but dont get scared. The real risk is if your power cuts out or you do something to stop the flashing mid flash. This basically renders your motherboard a paperweight. So just try your CPU as the Asus board should set itself to the correct voltage and multipliers. I would go find out what the mghz are of your cpu you got and go look to see in your bios if you can set those multipliers, you dont have to save it just see if you can do it. If you can do it with the current bios leave it alone.
