Currently checking with the other users of the dedi-box if I'm OK to boot up RoF on some Sunday mornings for a few hours.

Weeksay evenings (UK) are not so much of a problem, with Thursday currently being the only one I definately cannot use, but there are a number of other things that don't have specific nights assigned to them.

Grabbed the two VM downloads currently there, and I have Chill's latest available too, so providing I get the all clear I should be able to run a test VM session this coming Sunday.

Good stuff Miggs. Please keep us posted on developments.

Spent a little time on your server tonight, and I think the problem is simply that we had too few on (at least whilst I was there).

It's also related to the "quality" of the pilots you get too. I'm pretty ineffectual as a combat pilot. I'm pretty good seeing EA, but a lot less successful at both getting to them, and doing anything useful if I do manage to close with them.

The first mission I was way too high (SE5a) and spotted the recon way below me, but lost sight of it when trying to close up, then saw you guys mashing it to wreckage, but I was way too far back then to do anything about it. Getting wounded on my second run did not help matters, but there were only 5 of us in the server at that point I think, and this did mean that a second recon made it back home safely.

I wouldn't do too much tweaking just yet, we have hardly tested the missions "to destruction" yet.

Both missions did serve their purpose though, I was very aware that I felt vulnerable.

A little more information to the defenders as to what targets "intelligence" suggests the opposition is trying to photograph and what they should be doing would be nice.

Recalling the co-op missions that used to run on T&T, each side had different mission brief for the same mission. Have we lost that opportunity now the brief shows up before you choose a coalition in DF mode, or is there another way of passing information to the player AFTER they join a side?

I really like the respawn option in the missions, but having the same brief means you can't be too specific in it without giving the game away to the other side. A full on co-op mission still only has 1 spawn per player per mission though, so I'd rather persevere with the current tweaked DF/TDM scenarios.

How about an on-screen "brief" when pilots spawn into their planes. It only has to be simple'ish, and I assume it could be plane specific. Something like "Patrol the area between Lens, Douai and Vimy at 2000m" for one plane type, and "Provide high cover over Vimy" for the another, and "Patrol the area betweem Bullecourt, Cambrai and Douai at 3000m" for another plane type. The actual names might be a bit wrong here, but I hope you get the idea.

Obviously going to be hard to get the right height without actually having an altimeter aboard, but the different planes types would get similar mission objectives, but the whole team then gets slightly differing orders within the mission. Flying towards the enemy would then be a bit more "real" as you might well happen upon a flights at different altitudes rather than them all being mixed together.

What I'm after is a more co-op style mission brief in the TDM arena where we can respawn.

I've had the all-clear to give this a go, so I'll get the two current missions onto the box and we'll see how they go on there.

Patch is due soon though, isn't it?

Would this Sunday be too soon to try to get some antipodean pilots to try the server?

Sure I will. Hope other antipodeans chime in too. Which server, what country is it in and what time Sunday ?

Providing the patch doesn't break anything (it "killed" hussars server after 1.009 for a good while), I will try to get the server up on Sunday 13/06/10 from around 10:00 hours (UK) for a good few hours. May be available sooner if I get up handy.

I say "try" as I tend to have a lie-in on Sunday mornings, but I will put the alarm on specially this weekend.

Server will be called "Hussar Hellequin" and it will have the missions Vanderstok has currently on the VM site.

Sounds good Miggins. Thanks for going to all this trouble and putting yourself out a bit. It is very much appreciated.

All in all a good weekend coming up (if the server doesn't break) ….. Wallabies Vs England Saturday night, Vintage Missions Sunday evening and Socceroos Vs Germany early monday morning (public holiday here :P )

I agree, I wil not change the mission itself, just add some more information; both in the briefing and on the map.

Recalling the co-op missions that used to run on T&T, each side had different mission brief for the same mission. Have we lost that opportunity now the brief shows up before you choose a coalition in DF mode, or is there another way of passing information to the player AFTER they join a side?

I don't think it's possible to make seperate briefings for each side nor is it possible to show a subtitle when someone has spawned. If it is, then someone please let me know how it's done!
What I usually do is add a "primary objective" Icon on the map and then add the side-specific brief there. I'll try that with this mission.

What I'm after is a more co-op style mission brief in the TDM arena where we can respawn.

Me too! I think we'll be get there eventually… :)

Another think that has to change is the attitude of the players. Just as with co-ops you need some more time before taking -off. Try to either wait in the map screen (if you have comms) or take-off and circle the field, but it would be great if people had a bit more patience and could wait until someone else spawns or a two-seater takes -off. The more players are on the server the less you need to wait of course.

There is a calendar on this site that will show when these events take place:

http://sites.google....intagemissions/">http://sites.google....intagemissions/

This is not generally known, so I'll put an anouncement on this forum as well for the time being. A sticky for this would be nice!

Enjoyed myself last night, but I wish I didn't keep hitting folks :(..seems they make the same move I do, up or down, doesn't matter. I only had one kill where I didn't collide..must really apologise to J2_Saka…he must have thought I had a death wish on him lol..three collisions were with him, although it did seem like I was far enough away from him on two of them :(

That was an intense df that generated over the front with you and Faz, Vander..started at 6000ft and worked its way down to the deck…wonderful stuff.
Earlier I had managed to escort the rcon to the target and intervened when it got bounced on the way back…then a few othe Central aircraft showed up…so I ran away lol

Thanks for hosting and I'll try and drag some others into the game next time

The Hussar Hellequin server ran the HS missions (Douai, Somme and Ypres) with 20 players in just fine, though I did skip the Ypres mission on as it had been running for a while before we had a decent number inside the server.

We currently have 30 player slots available (as this was the target number for Chill's ammended mega-mission), and the server managed that mission though again with only around 20 inside. We have not actually had a totally full server in anything other than the simple TDM missions, but judging by the CPU load of Chill's and your missions I think it should handle 30 players with the current level of AI without problems.

I was wondering about how the "proximity" trigger works and if it could be persuaded to help with this. If the trigger can diferentiate between a DVa and a Dr1 for example, might a number of them set around the field be used to pop-up plane specific briefs to the pilots.

I'm really just playing around with the ME in the times when I'm not actually flying of babysitting the dserver (though hopefully the "reduced load" hinted at in the 1.013 changelog might help a little on that score).

Yes "proximity" would be the MCU to use, but it unfortenately doesn't work with player spawned aircraft in dogfight maps, only with (AI) aircraft defined in the mission…

I have the two VM from the website on the server, I will check late Saturday to see if there is an updated version of either, otherwise I will run the ones I have there already.

There will be 30 player slots available, though I'm not sure if there will be enough planes if the server gets full, not sure how that bit works.

I had Matt's TDM missions running Friday night with a fresh (really unbalanced) mission using the DH2, and when full it was on 50% CPU. The settings for Friday night had custom skins available, so the change in CPU usage was rather significant, though there were no reported instances of lag or rubber banding. We might be able to get away with allowing custom skins in future, but since these missions are aimed at providing a more "real" look, I have left the locked skins option turned OFF so we fly in the "correct" skins for the mission.

I note in the changelog that the ping limiter has been fixed, but I have left it turned off for the moment as hopefully we will get some players connecting from distant locations to see how things go on the server.

Relevant Dserver settings.

–edit–
Points per round 20000

Rounds per mission 2
Finish mission only LANDED

Turned ON the spectate option
Turned ON subtitles
Turned ON warmed engine
Turned ON locked skins

Everything else is OFF

Alarm set for Sunday

I think that's pretty much it.

I sure hope the server performance has increased. It would mean we can add more AI which is essential if only limited number of people join.

About the server settings: My (VM) missions have their own objectives and do not rely on # of points to rotate to the next map. If there are many people on the server, 2000 points could be reached before the actual objectives have been achieved. Remember, you can quickly get a lot of points by shooting down balloons and trucks; it will render the actual objectives useless.

I think for these missions we should set the # of points very high to avoid this. Also, each mission should have a timeout to prevent night flying etc. (mine are now set to 45 minutes).

Let's see if anyone connects tommorow morning.

6pm Sunday Australian EST. I'll be there come what may :P Be prepared for some sloppy work though. I'm still coming to grips with the Cyborg Evo Force which is so different to my old Logitech extreme 3d it's not funny …. well it is a bit  But I've essentially had to start from scratch to get my head around it.

BTW, I don't fly Hun if I can help it. If I have to I will but I don't have any experience with them except a brief spin in the DR1 so things could get interesting  Looking forward to it.

And then I get to watch Australia Vs Germany in the world cup. We beat the Poms in the Rugby last night so I hope that's a good omen. But it will be tough. Australia just need to learn how to cheat like all the other major teams and act really well when they take a dive to ensure a penalty. That's how it works right ?

Just about to boot server, I may not join you for right away (we are going to need EU players here as well, to check for rubber banding and stuff between players).

As to the football, Imp tried to enguage Jorri and I in some football chat last night, I was not aware that England were playing USA, it ended with a level score sheet, which apparently means USA won?????

REALLY uninterested in football, I did think the rugby guys had a chance of a win the other night though, and you tend not to see blatant cheating in that game (using either rule book). There was that "blood" incident a while back (union? Saracens?), but that stood out due to it's rareness I think.

There was nothing on our forums about maintenance at Rackage server farm.

I will keep trying to get it back running, but without the remote connection I'b buggered, server lives down in London, I'm in Liverpool.
